Quite frankly, the German system sounds pretty nice. If you make under 4050 Euros a month, you NEED to be on the government plan. If you make more (and a lot of people do), then you can opt to be on private care. 85% of the country may be on the basic government plan, but that means they like it. They still have a choice. And if the system has survived the flu pandemic, the Nazi era, the Cold War, and Reunification, then the Germans must be doing SOMETHING right.

This is so fucking wrong... I live in Canada and have been in the hospital for many things. A concussion, broken leg, allergic reactions, etc. Every time I have been treated within the day that it happened, even minutes after arrival. This guy is a lying asshole, or else doesn't know the facts.

ummm... in fact yes, my dad has had major knee issues due to being a hockey player. He has had major and minor operations done to improve knee mobility, pain, ect. He was admited, every time, within a week, sometimes within days.

I've recently hurt my leg and when we called, I got in the same day, got sent immediately to x-ray, waited only about 30 minutes, "crutched" my way back to the doctor's office, and the report had already been called to him. No waiting for days here. Several years ago my son hurt his leg. Went to the doctor, immediately was sent to x-ray, then in a matter of half and hour, the doctor came out with the report. No waiting.
And wait times aren't the only problem in Canada. Health Insurance fraud is a huge problem. We've spent millions fighting it and to this day, a government-issued health insurance card is not considered a valid form of identification because of the rampant insurance fraud. This should be a big issue in the states, unless you don't mind paying for health care for every illegal alien in the US. Remember, universal health care isn't free. As a Canadian, I can say he's telling the truth. My neighbour is a soldier and had to wait so long for his broken leg surgery that it didn't heal properly and now he's in pain the rest of his life, so he now has to "wait" for disability benefits. Cancer victims are told they must be treated in 6 months or they'll die, but the waiting time is longer than that. Their only option is to go to the states, pay for treatment, then sue the goverment for reimbursement. What to do if the US goes like us?

Time is of the essence, I know from personal experience when my daughter had to have high dose steroids for an inflammation of the spine, otherwise she would be paralyzed today. Quite frankly, the German system sounds pretty nice. If you make under 4050 Euros a month, you NEED to be on the government plan. If you make more (and a lot of people do), then you can opt to be on private care. 85% of the country may be on the basic government plan, but that means they like it. They still have a choice. And if the system has survived the flu pandemic, the Nazi era, the Cold War, and Reunification, then the Germans must be doing SOMETHING right.

America actually has a lower life expectancy than any country in Europe. And the majority of waits in both Europe AND America are for elective surgeries. If you have a heart attack, you will be treated no matter where you are. In Europe, you just don't need to pay for it. Here it seems like you need to call while in the ambulance.

im sorry but you must be in wonderland.if i need to see my doctor i can make a phone call and see him in a week at the most .if its bad enough to get hospital treatment or surgery, he can have me in there the same day. in your dreamworld, it will take almost 2 yrs to get a hip replaced.check it out,i have. 2 months to see a doctor and when you finally do he puts you on a waiting list for over 6 months to see a specialist.now add 8 more months till surgery!wake up alice!

But clearly you can't compare the national health care system of a nation of less than 8 million with that of one with about 300 million. Just because it works for Israel (I'll assume that you're right about that) doesn't mean that it will work in America.

ummm... in fact yes, my dad has had major knee issues due to being a hockey player. He has had major and minor operations done to improve knee mobility, pain, ect. He was admited, every time, within a week, sometimes within days.
Saying that you heard of some doctor who was rude to an old guy is a pretty weak comment on a national healthcare plan. Its not even really worth responding to, but I will say this... one doctors actions can never reflect an entire system. Pretty obvious I think.

Some patients request a male because of personal reasons and we should not discourage people having options of these choices. Some people just get embarrased, you know? I know what you mean. Been there, done that. I have transpositional dyslexia, and was shy when I was young. Though I was smart, my teachers in high school said I couldn't become a nurse. Fellow military members made fun of me, and said I couldn't do it. The university had som many people going for it, I was told there was no chance. I proved them all wrong. I now have THREE college degrees and several certificates of specializations. Try 2-year colleges for ASN. You can add to 4 later.

in the UK we don't have bankrupcy problems as people cant pay medical bills.Our system is cheaper and better than yours for the majority.I have had private health care and the insurance companies try to cut down what they pay out to boost earnings, I know how bad they can be -

...that kind of wait...I don't think is the same kind of "months-long" waits that places like Canada endure. I understand ER room waits. My dad had chest pains years ago..we thought it was REALLY serious...we took him to Kaiser Permanente in Santa Clara, CA -Kiely Blvd. location-...and we just sat and sat. ALL insurances, though, should not be scrapped because we had a bad experience with our hopsital...the problem is with THAT particular hospital and their staffing...not all of them.

Dude, What is this appointments for Xray? In the US as it stands now we get Xrays in a matter of how long it takes you to get in your car to drive to the place or you walk down the hall. Thats what you don't get welsh you guys are so use to your system you don't even know how bad it is.

I've recently hurt my leg and when we called, I got in the same day, got sent immediately to x-ray, waited only about 30 minutes, "crutched" my way back to the doctor's office, and the report had already been called to him. No waiting for days here. Several years ago my son hurt his leg. Went to the doctor, immediately was sent to x-ray, then in a matter of half and hour, the doctor came out with the report. No waiting.

And wait times aren't the only problem in Canada. Health Insurance fraud is a huge problem. We've spent millions fighting it and to this day, a government-issued health insurance card is not considered a valid form of identification because of the rampant insurance fraud. This should be a big issue in the states, unless you don't mind paying for health care for every illegal alien in the US. Remember, universal health care isn't free. Check out our taxes versus yours - ouch!

As a Canadian, I can say he's telling the truth. My neighbour is a soldier and had to wait so long for his broken leg surgery that it didn't heal properly and now he's in pain the rest of his life, so he now has to "wait" for disability benefits. Cancer victims are told they must be treated in 6 months or they'll die, but the waiting time is longer than that. Their only option is to go to the states, pay for treatment, then sue the goverment for reimbursement. What to do if the US goes like us?

Are you telling me that waiting 5 hours at a hospital before being turned down because they can do nothing for my broken arm, then driving 3 hours to another facility to wait another 12 hours before being treated constitutes a perfect system? OK but do you think that if they change the insurance system, the healtcare system that you have will change? if you go to a ER in America you have to wait also 3-4 hours because the ER are loaded with illegal Mexicans with no health insurance at all, The hospital where my wife works paid last year over 2 million Dollars to uninsured people who just walk in thats why the healthcare system is so expensive because we have to pay for then too.
