  • Those 1st octave notes were amazing

  • She is a true sprinto contralto soprano

  • @SeveralMimi She has 9 octaves BOO! Don't lie! She has hit B1s effortlessly in her prime and she switches effortlessly from head to whistle all the time

  • I heard those Bass notes at the beginning and she did hit an A5! A true sprinto contralto soprano! She has hit every note and has inaudible notes in her range! 9 octave range!

  • @BeDeLuDeD 9 octave range? Haha, I would rather say something around 3.3 octaves :)

  • i wish her to "come back" . . the best like she was before.. May God help her!

  • They are F#5s great performance :)

  • Too bad she's in Rehab again. And now her kid along with her. Whitney Houston is the poster child of marrying badly to "Ghetto" shit gangster And Bobby Brown isnt quite the "Gangsta".... Now their kids are jacked up? Sad Sad Sad. Some women are just born with talent and end up being bitches. Home girl huh? Sad.

  • @GuardianAngel5150 She's in rehab to support her long recovery efforts, not for relapse. And unless you have been reading National Enquirer (Nasty Ass Liar), Bobby Kris is NOT confirmed to be in rehab. She is getting her life together, but unfortunately, people like you only see negative.

  • Wauw, wauw and wauw!

    Amazing!

  • WHO CARES WAT FUCKIN NOTE SHE IS OR IS NOT HITTING! THIS LADIES VOICE IS INFUCKINCREDIBLE!!!

  • WHO CARES WAT FUCKIN NOTE IS! THIS LADIES VOICE IS UNBELEIVEABLE!

  • I love Whitney and I love to hear Gary too!

  • Whitney was really good in her early days, she can still sing I think, but after all the things that people have said in regard to her voice it's sad or perhaps she dose not care, I always enjoy listening to her music even to this day regardless to what people say. I think she should come out with the best album she can and may be try a different.

  • Wow she sounds awesome!

  • G#5 at 4:14 and 4:53

  • That note 4:53 is actually A5/B5 4:14 is a g5# though

  • @kmaur21 Not to be rude but those G#5's are clearly not a B5/A5 in chest voice. Whitney has never been consistently great with G#5's she always tried full chest you have to mix. Mariah doesnt mix and thats why she hasnt belted above an A5 its impossible. There is no way it is a B5 and A5.

  • it isn't a G#5, it was a powerfull F5!!!

  • wow... She can be better live than in the studio!!!

  • It doesn't sound like Whitney, but is still beautiful.

  • @unison852 lol you don't know whitney then

  • @unison852 maybe it doesnt sound like whitney to you because you probably only heard her voice in the last 5 years lol j/k

  • @unison852 of course its whitney. only she can sing like this! the most beautiful voice in the world! its just that she was young here. her voice was much higher. but she could hit all the low notes too.

  • @Quekei yessss I agree

  • 4:54 G#5

  • @aNdReW16944ever Yeah awesome G#5!!!

  • @aNdReW16944ever Its A5/B5

  • The haters on this page are just jealous coz they cant sing like this..

  • Beautiful...I can listen to this all day...She's the best singer ever...!!

  • yawn....

  • This A5/B5 not G5# get it right!

  • @yurherenow keep your day job hater your mother is crack ho if you not a fan stay off her page hater

  • Don't pay attention to that yurherenow character. :)

  • Whitney is AMAZING Blesses of GOD fulls down in whitney so deeply

  • Wow, the vide sounds Really Great and Clear too!

  • who cares what the note is or if its chest note or mixed it sounds GREAT!

  • u betta sang whitney. i can listen 2 her all day man. if u dont believe there's a god, this proof right here

  • All I can say is AMAZING!!

  • This song is one of my all time favorite...

  • Thank You so much for posting this ... it is absolutely amazing!! God I love this song! x

  • Whitney the model.

  • I saw Nat. at Westubry two years ago, although she was sensational she was fighting a debilitating cold or flu, that must have been the kidney probelm, but she tore up I'm Catching Hell.

Good, to know that everyone has healed and are back.

    Sy-

  • IS THAT WHITNEY? THAT'S NOT HER.

  • Yes, it is Whitney in the 1980's when she had a lighter tone to her voice.

  • yes it is her with her brother Gary Houston in 1986 when she first started singing

  • I liked how high her Soprano tessitura was back in the 1980s. It was so natural. And of course that head voice. Nothing but F5 and G5 in that concert.

  • Whitney is the best singer in the history of the country of the world!!

  • By the way there was confirmation just by David Foster and Diane Warren saying Whitney voice is back fully and her work ethnic is back on Bodyguard level. If thats the case her full soprano is back despite what you think!!!!!!!!!!

  • The 2nd part is your opinion. You are entitled to your opinion. A voice major told me that she is an Alto. That's the same opinion of my first music teacher. She could possibly be a Mezzo-Soprano still, though. Sopranos are like Celine, Regine and Coko.

  • Celine is nobody's soprano OMG over Whitney. Her quality sucks with her belts past D5 sucks! Whitney is a super soprano over them. None of them no nothing about head voice or superhead. You and your voice teacher know nothing about Whitney's range seriously!

  • Celine is classically. That's why's she is a Soprano. She shas an amazing head voice.

  • what would you categorize her voice in this concert?

  • A Soprano.

  • All them sing in this crappy mix voice to hit there high notes where Whitney hits hers in full chest!!!!!!!!!!

  • This sounds sped up...or the pitch was digitally raised...she sounds like she's on helium...

  • Whitney had a naturally high Soprano back then, it doesn't sound sped up or altered in any shape or form, listen to the crowd's applause but more importantly her brother Gary singing with her all at a steady rate. if this was any slower this performance would've been an hour long lol.

  • what can I say?

    she is ineffable

    Whitney forever!

  • She just sounded AMAZING that year(1986)!!!!!!!!

  • I can't get over how high her first soprano used to be. She has to be the highest natural first soprano I heard in my life by her tone in this clip. No note is forced at all!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes, she WAS a 1st Soprano.

  • That's right, she was a 1st Soprano. She showed no signs of being a Mezzo at all.

  • maybe your right, but thats still a B5. Trentnjones, why the flip flop? do you have anything better to do than to discredit whitneys range. lol, man get a life.

  • That note is crystal clear B5 not a G5# and to me it sounds like chest voice because she transitions to head in less than a second. When it is in mix voice, the transition in registers is not that fast and clear.......

  • Some people are mistaking the note because it was actually sung not screamed! Regine and Patti should not even be compared to this note. They scream that note in mix, where Whitney in her younger days naturally sung that high in her first soprano. Whitney was a very high first soprano!!!!!!!!

  • why are some people so critical of Whitney's range. Just because shes arguable the greatest singer to grace a stage(pop genre) they have this constant need to disprove accomplishments in terms of her vocal range. That note was in pure chest voice and not in mixed voice unlike Patti who screams for dear life. The beauty of this note is how effortless she made it sound. who knows, her highest chest note may have exceeded this.

  • Quick fact: Most scientist affirm that it is physically impossible to hit notes above D5 in chest voice alone because of the pressure exerted on the diaphragm thus there must be an element of head voice involved to help produce the note. That is why many refer to notes above D5 as chest/mixed voice because only the singer can say how much of the assistance from chest or head they used.

  • If you'd provide some evidence for your argument other than "Most scientists affirm" and until a scientist performs test on someone like Whitney Houston I'd be inclined to believe you.

  • atleast someone knows what they're talking about. The chest register's range is not too wide at all..it is the bridge above it(mix) that allows the range to expand and grow strong which at times sounds identical to the chest voice depending on the singer..then head voice and whistle register come in to play one the mix is fully expanded.

  • All Whitney highest belts are chest though!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you know so much about voice, why in the hell aren't you an accomplished vocalist like Ms. Houston. She is inarguably the greatest female vocalist of our time and nobody can say that she's not. Just accept it. She is the african-american version of Barbra Streisand. The girl is bad PERIOD!

  • yeah, i dont think this is a B5 either, its a G#5/A5

  • Its a B5! Its definitely not a G5 or A5. Its not in mix voice either but a full chest note!

  • Comment removed

  • I think that the EEEEEEE at 4:53 when Whitney sings "that I nEEEEEEEver" is a G#5 that immediately afterwards becomes a F#5... Are you sure it's a B5???

  • After listening to the clip a dozen times, comparing it to the B5's of other singers including Patti and Regine, slowing it down and filtering it, I can now confirm that the note is not B5. It's G#5. I apologise for the misconception. xxForeverlambxx endorses my stance (he helped me figure out the nature of the note).

  • the note sounds like a A5????

  • Its a Bb5/B5! Its a full chest note too!

  • @kmaur21

    Is that better then g#5?

  • It doesn't leave too much of a gap. G#5-B5 is only 1 and a half note difference.

  • @trentnjones You sound like kmaur21 when you say that. I highly doubt she has hit a B5 in full voice.

  • yeah, i heard a B5, pretty effortless though

  • love her notes in this song

  • I want to pee in her butt.

  • What do you mean by "saying blacks have to be good at least in one thing"???????

    Can you pleas explain?

Explain why you would be talking about peeing in Whitney's butt too!!!

I thought you were a cool person, but your comments are extremely offending.

  • This guy wants to be me, but he is not me.

Look closely to his profil name, not exactly the same that mine.

Anyway love Whitney and black people!

  • OH... I'm so sorry. This guy is messing your reputation. The names are extremely similar. I'm sorry. I should have noticed the difference. I always knew you were awesome.

  • Yeah thanks, I probably had an argue with this guy and he started to do that to mess my reputation.

  • she is just sooooooo AMAZING.....I could just cry at how good she is, you just know that this is a gift that only God could have given, this song and her voice put me in a really solemn mood!!

  • Youre right; her voice is Godly. If God were to be a female, God would have the voice of Whitney Houston.

  • Coko is the only first soprano who can naturally sound that high without like screaming to the top of their lungs. Coko just lacks the angel quality and tone Nippy has too her voice, plus the head and superhead registers.

  • I can't get enough of this song. Very nice and I only wish more songs were like this.

  • I guess blacks have to be good at least one thing, you know what I mean. lol

  • Um...I don't get it.

  • 4:53 is actually a B5 not a G5#. Miksimpatikwhiteney the only F5# is in 4:15 when she sings that No............ That I Never is a B5.... It don't sound like it cause it is not a scream, but it is the exact singing note. Most singer scream that high not Whitney!!!!!!!!!!

  • get a tuning fork , get a life, man. no b5 here for sure

  • Thats a B5 please! In I Never.............. That note is full chest111111111111

  • kmaur21, nobody will treat you seriously if you keep making fools out of them and act like a fanatic. i checked your other "references" - all the notes were head notes.

  • This note is a B5! I have tuned plus other friends of mine have. She hits A5/Bb5 in I Wanna Be Starting Something 1986 thats in mix voice though. Plus she hits a A5/Bb5 in I Am Changing NY and G5 in chest too!

  • It's a G5/G#5 plain and simple. Thank you by, they way. Simple fact.

  • That note is not a G5# high note, that note is a B5 get a tuner. The one San Jose is a G5# this a note in half higher, you can tell by the musicians and key. They made her sing higher than the one in San Jose. Different key!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just so you know. Whitney is an Alto now. Possibly a Low Mezzo. Most people thin she is an Alto now, anyway. A light Alto.

  • Put a fork in it high note. I don't care what most people may say everyone who knows true music knows she is a soprano always will be. An alto is Oleta Adams, Dorinda Clark Cole, etc. Whitney is a soprano, not just a high soprano like she once was.

  • Just because people can hit high register notes doesn't make them Sopranos. That's how choral singers are classified. As a solo singer, it's more complicated. You have to look at timbre and tone and possibly tessitura to classify people. A singer can have an extremely large vocal range but there are areas of comfort and richness. What ever turns out good from their notes becomes one's signature sound. Therefore, she is Alto/Mezzo-Soprano.

  • thats kinda unfair to say, is there any chance she could become a soprano/mezzo again , if her voice heals like chaka's and mar J's did after there extensive drug use.

  • Whitney will always be a high soprano. Her tessiura is extremely high.

  • I think if Whitney wants her voice where it once was it can happen. I think the difficulty is that she likes singing but dislikes the business aspect of it. If she could do it for fun I think we would see that amazing voice back.

  • ppl are saying her voice right now is around 97-2001, so she sounds alot aot better then the past few years. she had surgery and that takes a while to heal since her cords are inflammed, and her phrasing speaking diction is alot better, if you remember the grammys this year it would hard for her to speak simple sentences now her phrasing is alot better and her voice is clearer, less horse

  • Chaka had her nodes removed through surgery. There is always a chance.

  • true and she sounds better then ever now..... ppl believe that she had surgery about a year ago and she's just healing right now.... it takes a while to reap the bennefits of vocal surgery

  • Man, I'm so dissappointed in Chaka and Natalie I don't know what to do. I used to work the 3:00P.M.-12:00Midnight shit at Shearson/Amex and I used to know a girl who hit the club circuit big time, she said Chaka & Natalie were simply two fiends when it came to thte tables and the drugs just come in and where it at, Chaka looks like she healed beautifully and Natalie is fortunate to get that kidney recently or she was goners,

    Sy-

  • there voices took a hit to drugs in the 90's and now they vocal cords and muscles in their throat have pretty much healed from the years of drug abuse and from my knowledge their sober and singing like there in their prime again. hopefully whitney will heal as througholoy as they did

  • Whitney already a soprano now. She will get her high soprano back watch!

  • @kmaur21 LOL

  • Nobody sing like you do Whitney !

  • Heavenly performance

  • Thanks for this awesome video. really Whitney was on fire in 1986 and her voice is just unmatchable, it is impossible to sing better than that.

  • Oh Jeez...they sing the livin fuk outta his track (especially Whitterx!!)They 'lift the lid off' the joint!!Fantastic!!!!A+

  • yey yey the voice is back!!!! thanks for sending this lovely video missimpatikwhitney!!!!!

  • kmaur21, I have listened to This performance like you wanted me to and she did NOT hit a B5 in chest, it was actually G5/G#5. Yes, she was definitely a 1st Soprano/Spinto Soprano and she had no problem going up there. Now, she is just a Dramatic Mezzo-Soprano or 2nd Soprano.

  • Don't lose your time explaining this guy she did not hit a B5,I have numerous fight with him about Whitney Houston chest notes and he is still convince that in the SAMLFY Japan 1991 she hits a B5 and in her duet with Aretha she hits two notes higher than her(but they are hitting the exact same note)and that her head notes are whistle and on the 7th octave.

  • Well am I right or is he?

  • Of course you're right. Whitney NEVER hit an A5 or B5 in chest voice.

Her highest note is in Love Will Save The Day and it is a G#5/A5.And in live this one is probably her highest in chest voice!

  • She can no longer hit F#5 to G#5 in full voice. She has only been hitting E5 and F5 from the MLIYL era on... She was a Soprano in here in 1986. Now, she is Mezzo. kmaur21 says she belted G5 in MLIYL in Malaysia, it was actually E5.

  • No it was a B5, I Never not a G5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The note was tuned several times and I Never was a B5, and that No is F5#/G5

  • kmaur21, a B5 was hit hit there.

  • Yes, it is G5/G#5, she is definitely a Soprano here... that's for sure. She wasn't a Mezzo in the 1980's because her bottomn range wasn't thick enought to be a Mezzo and she was comfortable singing her 1985 album songs above the original keys.

  • When in this song Whitney hits G#5? Please tell me, thank you!

  • It was at 4:53.

  • You always do such a good job. This is beautiful.

  • man, this song brings me back

  • Wow Sounds Amazing, Fantastic Song!!! Whitney Has Such Powerful Vocals!!!

  • Great song! Great performance! !

  • oh yeah do u have a date and this song is like the 80's

  • wow, i never heard of this song, i love it!

and btw, her new album is comin out in november?

  • yes and I cannot wait.....yayyyyyy!! but wow Michea your so good idk how you find these rare performances but thank you so much sharing them, I hope they are never deleted from youtube!!
