  • Very helpful but does something need a silver marking (like 92.5) on it to be silver? I checked with a magnet and some make-up (used my girlfriends btw :)) and it passed both tests but it has no sterling markings

  • she is so faded xD!!!

  • I'm guessing the dark that rubs off is from the foundation, like micro sandpaper, shaving a small amount off the metal away. It would naturally shave larger amounts from softer metals. Makes sense to me anyhow.

  • Well, I'll be darned. I didn't know about that!

  • Cool trick. I'll borrow my brother's makeup.

  • Interesting

  • Holla! Have you tried the Intellitus Cash System (just google it)? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my father made lots of cash.

  • thats a cool trick and your a cool chick but i still buyin no make

  • im a trani its not my first time buying make up lol =3-

  • Fantastic video. I can't wait to see the look on my fourteen year old daughter's face when I ask to borrow her foundation.

  • awesome video

  • Lulzy! Good vid, looks like I'm buying some foubdation tomorrow. Will post back once I've been to a few garage sales :P

  • What about copper, will a magnet stick to .999 copper bullion?

  • 1967 coins are not silver, clad coins started in 1965.

  • 1964 Kennedy half is 90% silver, 1965-1969 are 40% silver

  • @toughy299 You Are Right...

  • @Srd1126 You Are Wrong...

  • nice tip thanks..

  • not every one is a tomboy. i buy makeup alot

  • why do you think this works? something to do with the titanium dioxide in makeup? or another component?

  • I think you have magical powers.

  • trick to finding silver requires rough stone, a tall glass and a bottle of lemonade. K GOGOGO what you do is poor the lemonade in the glass, u then to a small rub of silver coin on the stone. Once you do that stick coins in lemonade... i cant expalin exactly how this works but when copper mixes with the sodium it dissolves. you will see the copper clear as day. though if you do this with a pure silver coin it actually cleans it which is good anyway :)

  • The only foundation I know of is the one laid before you build a house

  • you just blew my mind with that way to test gold i can truely say i learned something i will never forget thank you very much

  • awesome vid - thank-you for sharing!

  • you are hot

  • you are hot

  • Wanted to say cool tip, very infor...

  • you always seem high but offer great advice :3

  • Thank you for the information !

  • Thanks for the trick, i was looking a way to tes silver or gold on garage sales etc. without having to let people know what i was doing. Thanks a lot.

  • you are hot

  • Very Interesting! Good Info! :-)

  • ...could you test the metal on other body parts ?

~I am sure you get asked that by all the old men ?

  • Hi...Thanks for the tip, I just subbed. In your more info box, you mention Craigslist and E-bay.

Where would one advertise on Craigslist to find buyers?

Thanks in advance for your answer...

    REV 18

  • @goscott4 It depends on the item. You can list in the "For Sale" area through different categories.

  • @katiemariepatton But if you are acting as a buyer only, you would list in the "for Sale" section. This would be for any items of gold you might want to buy from someone else to recycle...

  • @northeaastprepper 1964 and before were 90% silver. (Dimes, Quarters and Halves) 1965-1970 halves-(only) are 40% silver. With todays silver spot the silver alone in the 40% is worth $4.77. Snatch them up if you come across them. :D

  • I will put makeup on my butt and rub solid 24k gold if it is real lol

  • I would just have my woman come with me.

  • Won't lead and pewter also leave marks. That's when you're in trouble trying to buy silver and instead get pewter.

  • WARNING: Just tried this - it isn't a great test.

It does work with real silver.

    It did work with gold.

    IT ALSO WORKED WITH:

    Pewter,

New clad coins (dime, nickles, quarters)

metal feral on a pencil eraser!!

so - don't trust this to identify silver and gold... no good.

  • @northeaastprepper Kennedy half-dollar 1965-1969 is 40% Ag, I believe.

  • So alrighty. I just did this and I had some questions. I tried it with a silver coin, 2 gold coins, a rose gold ring, and a 1€ piece. That's all I have around me at the moment. The silver coin left a nice mark, as did the euro, and the rose gold ring. The gold coins however, did NOT. I did purchase them from a reputable dealer. So I'm wondering exactly what metals this powder reacts with. I can't seem to find an answer online. thanks!

  • @kendalismyname Sometimes you can go to a jeweler and have them test the coins for you, or you could get a gold testing kit. I use this when I'm looking for gold or silver at sales without looking too suspicious.

  • @katiemariepatton Well, I was hoping it would work for when i go to garage sales. But it's not even working on coins that I'm 100% certain are gold and silver. I mean, the ring is 75% gold and 25% other metals, the euro... who knows what that's made out of (not gold or silver! lol) and the coins... well, they're .999 gold and silver. I have a kit with acids, though I'd love one of the electric testers. Maybe for Christmas... :-)

  • @katiemariepatton Let me see if I got this right ....... You are rubbing it on your arm and you are not looking too suspicious......... Best

    Wishes ......

  • @kendalismyname if it leaves a mark, it's fake Kendal. If it does NOT leave a mark, it's real. I dont know what she says cause i didnt watch the full video. but i know from personally trying things. If it leaves any type of a mark, it's fake. if you rub it on the makeup, there is little to no reaction, it's either plated or 110% legit.

  • I was so excited that I mispelled BUY....I'll let you know what my results are!!!

  • I am going to by my makeup right now!!!

  • Not a very good method for testing anything. Gold filled items, in your method would definitely test as gold. The magnet test is pretty useless too because most plated jewelry is none ferrous, which means they are usually brass. Iron & steel are just about the only metals attracted by magnets, and are hardly ever used in jewelry. There are testing kits that are very portable, and could probably be bought for little more than the price you paid for the makeup!

  • It is going to be funny, seeing me at the next swap meet or estate sale rubbing jewelry all over myself...I am going to try it, I have 'samples' here for comparison, and I want to see if it works. Thanks

  • Thanks for the video. Good presentation.

  • Hey! Aren't you cute :) I approve!

  • ALL THIS TESTS FOR IS COPPER. COPPER IS ALLOYED WITH GOLD AND SILVER. Pure gold will not leave a mark because it has NOT COPPER in it.

  • Brilliant tip.. i make and repair jewellery... your very intelligent and mature, keep up the good work ..glad i found you. Steve from cornwall uk.Namaste.

  • Thanks! for this great tip.

  • Amazing! You are the coolest person I've seen on youtube. So young yet so wise.Hope to see more of your video's.

  • my family has a history in the jewelry biz and I NEVER knew this. Why does it work?

  • @maladettagirl I honestly don't know. I was never into chemistry.

  • @maladettagirl it works because metals are alloyed with copper. This really only tests for copper being alloyed with the metal.

  • Great, thx for share

  • That was the neatest thing. I was at an auction a week ago, if I had only known this trick then. I let some random silverware go to another person because I wasn't sure it was real silver.

  • btw...get a new camera. I thought you were like 40

  • @flahr1 i think that she is only like 20 or 18 or somehin??

  • my wife saw me putting makeup on today...she is worried

  • @flahr1 haha!

  • @katiemariepatton can i rub the coins on my girfriends face ...

  • @gasdorf I don't know if she'd go for that. lol

  • That's crazy no way! Wow way to be truly creative and unique!

  • hey cutie, will this work for "Black People?"

  • @AmericanOppression I imagine if there was an area of lighter skin like the palm of the hand, but then the makeup might rub off because we use our hands so much. You just have to be able to see the dark mark.

  • @katiemariepatton You should have your eBay Store URL}} on your YouTube Channel 2 cross-sell your items.. What'd 'ya think "cutie" 'bout that fantastic idea?

  • its a good thing they dont make steak knives out of silver!....ive been buying gold for several months now and this is blowing my mind...so, this ALWAYS works huh?

  • great now i gotta borrow my girls makeup lol .. very good info what is your ebay name ? i would like to see your items ?

  • would that still work if the powder was put on your boobies?

  • Thanks now I look sexy!

  • i get funny looks because im always touching things to my side( i have magnet in my knife sheath that you cant see) and i pick up things and smell them to see if its silver plate.

  • Really cool video. Thanks for sharing. You have a easy voice to listen. You can also on some large items like silver coins do the ping test. Were you put it on the end of your finger and tap it with another metal object and it should ring for a few secs. That means its silver.

  • Katie...hahaha.. Thanks for the giggle.. .. I wonder how many guys ran out to buy powder.. :D

Thanks so much for sharing this tip - it's simply genious!!! I spent the most enjoyable afternoon going through some old jewelry of mine and my Gramma's and even some of my Dad's.. what a thrill to find out that a number of pieces actually are gold!!

Will I part with them... no..lol.. but now I know to keep them hidden from prying eyes

  • @WACWichita Thank You ;D

  • This is a great tip. What kind of make-up do use for this again? Which brand were you using in the video?

  • @greggh Any loose powder should work but I used LOREAL Bare Naturals. I've had for about 3 years because you really don't need to use a lot. :)

  • @katiemariepatton Thanks. By the way, buying the makeup isn't going to be the worst of it. I'm probably going to have to shave the underside of my arm too :)

  • @greggh aww! ;D
