Was in Spain and went on a tour of an ancient castle owned by a Cardinal during the Inquisition, I asked the guide if we could see the dungeon and if anyone was tortured there. The guide went ballistic and started screaming in spanish like a madman. Guess he forgot his history! This castles had, it seemed, hundreds of sculptures, classical and otherwise. Catholic authorities did not 'torture' or 'murder' true Christians for merely having a Bible.
They did so for having a Bible that was translated into the common language. These Bibles were banned and their owners were considered heretical.
This was still monstrous and un-Christian.

The Inquisition was used for finding heresy among the Church's laity and those who did not repent and continued doing so, dangering others, were killed. The inquisition did not have jurisdiction to non-catholics. They had jurisdiction to Muslims and Jews who proclaimed to be Christians, while in private spreading heresy. Heresy was a major crime of the state back then.

I was stating the huge bias in this film, and I then proceeded to say that heresy was a state crime back then, punishable by death. In the Inquisition's 450 year history, a total of 2000-3000 people were put to death for state crimes. Compare that to any other european tribunal/court against heresy and you will be suprised.
