I currently have 4 7-9 in. tiger oscars and and a 10 in. pleco in my 15 gallon tank. The water seems very cloudy even though I do monthly water changes + a 20 gal rated filter. The fish also seem to be somewhat stressed and rarely eat all their flakes. i really want to add a jack dempsey to the 15 gal tank but i want to get this problem fixed first.

The correct amount of water from my research is 20 gallon per piranha..Healthy piranha need at least 5 partners to shaol.. so you need at least 100 gallons to do it right.

You only need 3 for a fish tank shoal, and it also depends oncthe species of piranha. Rhombeus (black piranha) sanchezi, elongatus and some others have to be kept alone or the strongest will eat all of the weakest. Also the 20 gallon rule is relative, if you never do watter changes then 3 piranhas for a 100 gal but if you do a good job keeping it clean you can pack alot more in.

not necisarily, parhana tend to avoid warm blooded prey unless they are starved. it is usualy safe to swim in parrahna infested waters in the south as long as its not at a time when the paranhas are having a hard time finding food. they primarily eat other fish and fruis that fall off trees into the water.
