  • This is such a good video! So easy to understand!

  • This is an awesome tutorial! Thank you! My grandma was teaching me to crochet when I was 15 and we really didn't get to it all before she passed away. Now I can make a granny square afghan!

  • Cant get closer?

  • I love this guy.. He is so easy too follow

  • i got stuck after part 2:59 wen i keep going it ends up looking round and trying to turn into a hat lol plz help im having a baby in july a really wanna make this blanket for my baby..

  • @bunnywitclass ok....if your square is going round that is telling me you are not getting your corners done right.....you need to do 3dc ch2 3dc on each corner to make it pointy....keep trying and pay close attention to your corners and I think you will get it.....good luck....let me know if you need more help.....cathy@ mikeys helpdesk :)

  • Was going good until second round where it got confusing. You should slow down too.. gonna go find another vid..

  • Thanks for the instruction. I found it very easy to follow. I recently took up crocheting again after not having done it for almost 30 years. I did so because, one day, I noticed a small granny square blanket I'd made once still looks almost new-- and it dawned on me everything that blanket has gone through: two children playing with it (who are now in college) innumerable moves, cats, dogs-- you name it. Crocheted work lasts!

  • You had me at first and it was going great then you went too fast and I got confused with the different number of chains at each corner. :(

  • Determining what is a corner and what it not a corner (to put the hook through) seems to be my downfall. Mine comes out very round, lacking distinguishable "corners". I see many holes, I have no earthly idea which holes in this round cluster of yarn are "corners." When completed, I take my non-uniform, uneven product and stretch it into a square shape. This makes me feel somewhat more accomplished.

  • @gentlenurse82 these squares take practice.....keep on trying :) at the beginning you should have 4 main puffs or clusters of stitches like a cross and thin stitches where you chained two attaching them ....these thin chain stitches is where you want to add you next round of corners .....pay attention to your corners!!! (3dc ch2 3dc) let me know if you need more help...... cathy @ mikeys helpdesk :)

  • @mikeyssmail thanks, Mikey. I figured it out, after noticing the cross shape in the middle with the gaps between the crosses arms. I'm very visually mathmatic, I see everything as a pattern, like a mosaic. These really were simple to make once I learned it. I've made 22 without "messing up" or having to start one over. Thanks for your videos. They helped much more than the other granny square vids I watched on youtube.

  • @gentlenurse82 YAY!!!!!! I am so happy that my visual explanation helped you figure out your grannie squares!!!!! Bravo to you!!!! Enjoy them now..... there are so many different ones to make!....LOL !!!

    Cathy @ Mikeys helpdesk :)

  • took me quite a while to understand what you were doing !~ you went pretty fast for me, but maybe that's cause i learned how to crochet yesterday :P mine turned out good though! i made 1 silly mistake - i forgot to do a second (technically 3rd)double crochet after the first slip stitch, so when i got around to doing the next slip stitch i was missing a double crochet !! i'm still kinda confused of the slip stitch D: but good tutorial though, yours are the only ones that i can really follow !:DD

  • mine turned out round and hat like and blobish

  • @skyelovesicp oh no..... keep practicing.....:) pay attention to the (3dc ch2 3dc) corners thats what makes the square :) cathy @mikeys helpdesk :)

  • everyone has tried to teach me this but i cant figure it out ive tried videos real poeple google but i cant do it

  • This is a great video. I wished you would go over how to end the granny square though.

  • I really enjoyed your video! I used to crochet alot about three years ago and wanted to get back into it, thanks so much for your help!

  • not very clear at all, and i can hardly hear you ......yon talk to much about how to position your fingers and thumb at the start, its confusing,

  • my daughter said

for the corners like you said, need four hole but she's only getting three

    why?

  • @rajan5226 not sure ?? she must have missed a step somewhere?? you might want to go back and see where you dbl crocheted corners at the beginning....good luck cathy @ mikeys helpdesk

  • I hope i would understand this lesson

  • i really appreciate the tutorial but the audio is SUPER quiet, even with the volume turned way up. just thought i'd let you know :)

  • great instructions!!! do you have a written copy so we dont forget... God forbid we lose your video )

  • you are always helping me when iam confused . thank you

  • Hello Mikey

Great video had been struggling with getting an easy square demo - found this and watched while copying what you were doing and as such I have got a square that is growing rapidly!

  • i found when u get to a corner u go into the large hole in the coner once make a chain of three then double crochet 3 times into the corner hole and then carry on one double crochet in every stitch up to the next corner and then u repeat what i just said

  • I love your video because it is easy to follow. I am passing your you tube to my facebook friends. Thank you for your help.

  • wow i think i'm in love, the other 3 videos that i saw confused me but yours didn't (all i could figure out was love knots lol)

  • YES!!! I did it! :) Thank you soooooo much, i'ts a great vid!!!!!! :D Thanx agian :D

  • Well, I've been struggling for 2 days trying to do these squares and your video is the most informative and easy to understand! Many thanks, Dawn x

  • After you finish the slip stitch, what do you do next then?

  • @crochetgirl09 where? while you are making the grannie or at the end?? chanle@ mikeys helpdesk

  • I tried like crazy to make flowers for a while, but circles killed me! This is so much easier. Thank you!!

  • i hate this it is so freaking difficult

  • hi trying again for the 100th time, it keeps going in circle :( why why !!!

  • @532818 hey...ok when a granny square goes round its because your not doing the corners right its a series of 3dc......2chains.....3dc at each corner try that and see if you get it...it takes some practice!!!! let me know if i can be anymore help.......chanel @ mikeys helpdesk..... :)

  • @mikeyssmail im gonna try again, just waiting for vid to load!! what the best size hook to use i have range from 4mm to 6mm :)

  • @532818 i think for learning a sz J hook or 6.00mm is good or an I hook sz is good too

  • @mikeyssmail Ive got the square done :) whoop!! so pleased, i was doing 2 dc and my hook in funny way. I just keep messing up after 1st square, do you have a long vidoe like one that does 4 rounds ?

  • What size hook were you using please? thanks

  • @bdebbins2419

hello...... mikey doesnt say but I think its either an I or a J hook either one will work just fine for this project!!

    chanel@mikey helpdesk... :)

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU... I am a beginer and this vid .. Ahhh made a pinnk and white baby blanket.. like Pink Granny Squares and White Granny Squares sewn together.. You are such a blessing to me..

  • Ive been crocheting for 5 years and your still going way too fast for me!

  • "and now your figer should be in the center on your square"

ummm noo. i have a clump, but thanks.

  • Hey, mine keeps going round. Pls help!

  • @missmorgan04 hello from mikeyssmail helpdesk: if your grannies r coming out round pay attention to how you are forming your corners ie.... 3 dc (double crochet) 2sc (single crochet) and then 3 more dc (double crochet) on every corner this is what gives it the square shape!!!!

    Hope this was helpful!

    Chanel :)

  • @missmorgan04 Mine were coming out like that.. you have to keep going.. if you do corners right it will square out.. I got frustrated trying to self teach... and I would start with a circle. Girr It was frustrating.. but finally watched this and tried. Its square!!

  • @D0R4H I finally got it!!! =)

  • @missmorgan04 YAY great job!!!!

  • (T~T) I need help with this one. My granny square comes out round. Help ?

  • @BlazinRedxDragon hi this is chanel from mikeyssmail helpdesk so oyur squares are coming out round!!!! not good! :)

make sure you are paying attention to how you are forming your corners! that might be the problem you need to do 3 dc and then chain two then 3 more dc all the time for the corners!

    good luck!~chanel

  • umm i am speechless

  • Thanks Mike this helped me out alot. Now I can get started with good instructions.

  • THANK YOU! I have been trying to teach myself to crochet and your videos have been wonderful! I saw a granny square blanket that I wanted to make... and now I can! It's the perfect on-the-go project because I can just do individual squares and not have the entire blanket with me all the time.

  • Wow, it looks great. I would love to try it by myself, but I don't have the stuff. I think I'll buy it tomorrow.

  • YAY! Thank you SOOO much! I've been searching for instructions on how to START this type of Granny Square since April 2nd!!! YAY!

Question though... If I made a video showing you how I was taught to do corners, etc, would you be able to tell me WHAT kind of crochet pattern I am actually doing?
