So I get the feeling they are trying to hint at the possiblity that he might be related to lina inverse from slayers but won't every confirm it

@charmed4everfan As far as i know, the only known adversary of Darkstar in this show is, if not mentioning humans, Canal (who is most obviously night dragon Vorfeed if it is to be believed that this is same multiverse as Slayers). No mention of night dragon's servants at all.

Keep in mind that Hajime Kanzaka officialy denied that this is the same multiverse, and he stated he only reused the names from Slayers. Although Kanzaka is known to contradict himself so it's still not sure :)

Why is the opening in US release very different from the original Japanese opening?

The US version has lots of still shots instead of animated sequences, while same music plays in the background. Even the ending is different.

Oh well, you're right man. Here in Poland, when I was child there were only Slayers series running in the TV (along with few other animes) but NO Lost Universe! Honestly I learned about the Lost Universe when I was browsing Slayers wiki and there was mention that Lost Universe takes place in the same multiverse as Slayers, but in another world.

But on some forum, someone said "I don't like it cuz Slayers had its medieval atmosphere, and this thing is some kind of star wars"

This anime and Slayers have to be two of my most favorite. One thing I really like is that they are both connected to eachother but the settings are complete extremes, one being a medieval style fantasy and the other being a space fantasy. It makes me wonder what the other 2 universes created by the Lord of Nightmares are like.

The reason for that is because this anime takes place in another of the four worlds that Lina Inverse mentioned. In the original Slayers series, Lina mentioned that the Lord of Nightmares created four worlds. The one that Lina, Gourry, Amelia, Zellgadas, and Filia live in is called the Red World. The world that Lost Universe takes place in with Kane, Millie, and Canal is called the Black World.
