This was a monument built, and just like in the live action film it was to give an intro to halo 3. This fight was the battle for New Mombassa. Kenya. The battle which set place I think in halo 2. The monument showed a bettre background into halo whcih showed how it is not a fast pased hyped up game. Not really. If you've been following the Halo story so far, you'd know that the Elites are now fighting against the Brutes (and the covenant as a whole). In the Halo3 story MC fights side by side with the Elites, although I'm sure no Elites would travel all the way to Earth to defend it.

Their goal is to stop the great journey, which means that they would be at earth to stop the activation of the Ark.
