I never thought I would hear Jimmie Logsdon again. I remember hearing him in 1953 and I thought he was relly going places. Never quiet made it though and I can't understand why.
The song I remember were "papaya mama" and "I wanna be mama'd". He kinda dropped from radio play in our neck of the woods after that.
Pretty sure the guitarist on this is Grady Martin, the REAL guitarist on most of the Johnny Burnette & His Rock 'n' Roll Trio 1956 Nashville recordings (Paul Burlison only played on the early recordings)
Please, can't someone post his "Rocket In My Pocket" - one of the real great rockers of the '50s and if you have that one and "Great Balls Of Fire" no risk of dissapointing the ladies. They all gunna lööööve you. Hehe
I know he wrote it under his 'other' name, Logsdon. There's a garage-punk version on Golden Rogues Collection by '68 Comeback, but I wouldn't recommend it...
In an interview Jimmy Lloyd says of this song that the recording studio didn't have an electronic echo, so they had the band playing in one part of the studio, and to get the echo on him they moved him out of the studio, back where the coke machine was.
another brilliant rocker by one of the best.

My Father was Jimmy Logsdon and I have some fond memories when I was a child. He's been gone now since 2001 but his music still lives on.

Interesting, thanks - didn't know any of that. Mr Martin appears on a lot my postings, including Helen Shapiro!

I think Grady Martin and Hank Garland are playing here.
The guitar break is Grady for sure.
Floyd Kramer on piano.

My Uncle, Howard Whited, used to play guitar with Jimmie. Wonder if he's in this recording?
