  • fuuuuuuuuuckin' love it.

  • This song has an absolutely KILLER groove to it.

  • do u realize how fuckin groovy this drummer is?

of course you do who am i kiddin.....

  • Reminds me so much of Grizzly Bear. I love it.

  • both versions are so good

  • Awesome but nah i prefer the tempo in the recording

  • what type of guitar dose dan have?

  • @monkeybass12 ive never heard of this band but im guessing dan is the rhythm guitarist? if thats who you are asking about it is a gibson b-25. from probably around 1967-1974. they arent very desirable in terms of vintage gibsons. If you like that guitar id say look into a gibson lg1 from the 50s. the b-25s have super thin necks and are harder to play, but thats only my opinion! (also the 50s lg1 looks cooler!) hope this helps and hope i got the right guy you were talking about! haha

  • @mstark7 no, dan rossen is the lead guitarist singing. But thanks for telling me the other guy's guitar. I was also intrested in his.

  • I have to say, I'm not a fan of how they played this. Dynamically, it sounds way too much like 'While You Wait for the Others'. Its still great, but eh, I don't know. Too much like the other song.

  • Ha, Chris Bear and Taylor and Dan Rossen. Wheres Ed?

  • WHOT A TUNEEEEEEE!!!!

  • Quel plaisir de voir réunis des Grizzly et des Eagles !!!!!! MERCI !!!!!!!

  • Secos!

  • n0:00ne does it like you.

  • i like how most of grizzly bear is playing along:) thats sweet

  • How have I not commented on this video eight times already???

  • I love how this is Grizzly Bear Minus Ed. I love Ed but this is just a good as Grizzly Bear!

  • Why kind of cymbals is that guy using? Anybody know?

  • @BruisedEyeSockets Zildjian K's

  • @chaaassee Not quite. He actually uses Dream Cymbals, Chinese made cymbals which are particularly trashy and open up really nicely. They do sound like old K Cons though. I think he occasionally uses a 17 inch K crash, but mostly sticks to his Dream Bliss cymbals.

  • Fab!!!

  • If you enjoy this kind of music please check out my new song by searching Song for H and K on the youtube search engine.

  • This Daniel Rossen cat is clearly talented. Great voice, great guitar, great writing. Looking forward to years of material.

  • @TheMrMikeRios I have to agree. I really like this, but Grizzly Bear is more my thing. I'm not sure which came first. Was wondering the same thing....

  • @beccalulu

    Department came first, I believe.

  • pretty sure ive watched this over 1000 times. un fucking real

  • god, i love this song

    especially the live version

  • I can't hear Mr. Bear :[

oh there his voice goes... near the end. nvm.

stop reading this comment what is wrong with you

  • @JamesMajdali Your comment just made me laugh so hard. Thanks for that. =)

  • Is that Christopher Bear on drums?

  • @Nicetry75 Yes. I squeeled his name when I saw him. Oh and Chris Taylor? Yeah... don't mind him. Droste got replaced with a fat white dude with cool shades.

  • @Torchthewood noooo :( I love Ed!

  • It's so simple, yet so amazing. Great music.

  • where's ed? :(

  • God I wish Fred would join Grizzly Bear. How awesome would that be?

  • My god, they sound awesome live! Everyone from Grizzly Bear is amazing, and I really hope that Ed Droste, Chris Bear, and Chris Taylor do their own little side projects.

  • I have watched and listened to this so many times for its absolute brilliance in every way......those of you out there either know EXACTLY what I mean or if not then you are missing something truly exceptional amongst todays mediocrity.

  • Chris Bear.

  • Daniel Rossen and Chris Bear are seriously two of my favorite modern musicians.

Crazy talented fuckers, they are. Neither of them are very technical, but they know what the hell they're doing a damn sight better then most people do.

  • @crazy8rgood Are you kidding me? They're some of the most technical in the scene. Maybe not in this particular song, but they are extremely technical.

  • I like how Daniel's got a bit of grit in his voice with Dept. Of Eagles; it's an interesting alternative to how he normally sounds in Grizzly Bear.

  • who can NOT love this! :)

  • naturally, spectacular sound on the rooftop. and listen to chris bear backin up with those vox, (around 2:20)

  • naturally, spectacular sound on the rooftop.

  • his voice is getting cooler

  • i never thought id find a band i liked more than grizzly bear but here it is.

  • sounds just like grizzly bear's "while you wait for the others". but they're both great, so whatever. :P

  • I have to say, I like DOE more than Grizzly Bear, these songs are just too good.

  • BOTH CHRIS'S ARE THERE! WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?

  • I want a Guild T-50 soooooo bad

  • I love this song and Daniel's shirt.

  • Ear Park is a lot like Grizzly Bear, but Cold Nose is not, and I prefer it slightly to be honest. But both are great.

  • what kin of guitar is he using?

  • Yes Girzzly Bear and Department of eagles do sound quite similer, thats because Daniel Rossen writes alot of songs for both. Alot of the tapes he did while in D.O.E when on to be recorded from 'Yellow house' If you listen to the album "In Ear Park" you can hear more diffrences from the two bands, and yes there are song that sound just alike but their are song i don't thikn grizzly bear would do, this song isn't the best example to prove that but the album is :D

  • Love love love it

  • Just so everyone knows, this is just Grizzly Bear without Ed Droste and with the addition of Fred Nicolaus

  • This man is behind some of the best music I've heard in my life, and is the heart and soul of grizzly bear imo

  • no wonder they sound so much like grizzly bear, this song reminds me of while you wait for the others

  • this is so much better than the one on the album

  • this particular song does sound like a mixture of some familiar Grizzly Bear tunes though.

  • Guild T-50.... what a guitar it is.

  • Comment removed

  • anybody know what kind of guitar dan's uses?

  • I know it's a hollowbody Guild but, that;s all I know

  • Where can I find this version because this ain't on the single on Itunes it's the album version

  • every version of that song is perfect in it's own way. painfully beautiful.

  • I love it when Chris Bear does the background vocals in the chorus at 2:10.

  • is this grizzly bear?

  • no but kind of lol wikipedia my friend

  • @grungepig9 no its not, the lead singer is from grizzly bear =]

  • as are the drummer and bassist

  • @grungepig9 same people minus ed droste..

  • btw everyone where can i get an mp3 of this? thanksssss <3

  • itunes its a single

  • oh my goddd this is just beautiful. i would give anything to have been there on that damn rooftop right then

plus oh man i could just eat daniel rossen up i swear

  • Simply great. Way better than regular version.

  • 100x better than the recorded version... couldn't find this version on myspace : (

  • this song sounds so much more Grizzly Bear than the recorded version

  • I love the drummer!

  • Is there an .mp3 of this version anywhere? I got hooked on this song from IFC, got the album, but what I really want is this version

  • hey theyre with the grizzly bear guys. sounds great

  • can you get a cooler person than daniel rossen? A short little dude with a comb-over playing a hollowbody guitar writing some great tunes and singin in a pseudo jazz voice. awesome

  • hahahaha

    best description ever

  • for rizzle

  • His opposite is Beyonce! :0

  • funny its one of those things where you cant tell if the guys being insulting or giving props. kudos

  • @TheStarkmeister i love you for saying that.

  • @TheStarkmeister hahahah indeed

  • this version rocks and it's better than the recorded one... also the official music video doesn't jibe well with the song imho

  • Hahaa, the beginning kinda reminded me of "While You Wait For The Others". Anyways, amazing song, beautiful live performance. 5/5, favorite.

  • Daniel uses that guitar tone a lot; I think it's beautiful.

  • One of the best melodies ever made, in my opinion.

  • I love dan, but the comb-over is killing me!

  • Amazing. I can't get over it.

P.S. I have a huge crush on Chris Bear.

  • fucking flawless

  • I love this song. I love how it sounds. Just everything. Its on my repeat.

  • Totally my jam right now.

  • this is a LOT better than the one on the album :( why don't they do more stuff like this lol

  • did the two chris` record this with them too?

  • Yeah. Bear did the drums and stuff, and Taylor did a lot of the sound engineering.

  • I could listen to Daniel Rossen sing all day. I love this song!

  • mmm, daniel rossen<3

  • Chris Bear as well.

  • still a great performace

  • different from the video ?????? :(

  • theeear:

have you ever heard the album version of this song? or the album from which it comes? listen to it. i think you'll find this "side project" has enough "sweet harmonies" to be totally worth it.

  • Yes, I have the album. Its really good but just don't get a side project that doesn't differentiate itself from the "main band". I think the DofE actually came first, but I could be wrong.

  • like this better than the album version

  • this is a ridiculous comment. anyone?

  • which one?

  • nope its true.....like seriously...but that's not a bad thing at all

  • @ahhhnth Agreed. Completely ridiculous. Both projects offer something unique and worthwhile.

  • dude, wth?? who cares if it sounds a little like grizzly bear. they are both amazing bands, the more, the merrier, i would never complain about more daniel rossen in my life.

  • Haha. Listen to the album, man. It's freaking great. I'm grateful that Daniel is doing it because it adds more great music to my collection.

  • i agree a lot...you people can't deny this come on

  • Go listen to the first Department of Eagles LP, "The Whitey On The Moon"/"The Cold Nose". You'll notice a very large difference from the Grizzly Bear projects.

  • yeah i do notice a very distinct difference now. it's a lot less like slow moving and a lot more progressive.

  • @theeear

If you actually listened Department of Eagles are generally alot less pop oriented and a quite a bit more uncoventional musically than Grizzly Bear. There are lot more unconventional musical changes and use of dissonance as well in DoE.

  • I'm jus in fuckin love with this song..

  • this song reminds me British Sea Power stuff

  • I love both versions, album & this one. The song is goddamn amazing.

  • So, so true.

  • Comment removed

  • love it!

  • ah man! i love these guys :P

i wish the guitar was this well defined on the album.

  • Agreed. I love the dynamic crispness of the guitar!

  • Thats a guild for ya. Straight through the amp, no frills attached, just some reverb. Nothing like it

  • WOW.. this was so good!

I think I actually like this version more :)

the sounds of his guitar is richly amazing, and his raspy voice at times adds character.. amazing live recording.. makes me want to see them live.

  • I asolutely agree!

  • someone should tab this for me haha please?

  • the main chord progression goes C#m, B, E... that's all I figured out by ear hah, wish I could find a tab as well.

  • love it

  • Love this song.

  • Great Song! Cant help to keep repeating it. I like the album version of the song a bit better. Hope they'll do some festivals this summer. Hoping for Dour haha

  • oh i like these guys way better than animal collective.

these guys actually have tunes and melodies and sh*t.

  • Animal Collective, Department of Eagles -- two totally different bands. You can like them equally, if you want to. lol

  • Totally agree, I like both bands. DoE slightly have the edge over the two most recent albums though.

  • thanks for the info, tips.

  • This almost sounds like it could be a Hendrix song

  • weird but true

  • Great band!

  • i love everything about both the album version and this version including the fact that they're both so different. I personally love how gritty his voice sounds here compared to the recording. Department of Eagles will always sound like a slight alteration of grizzly bear but i dare you to talk shit.

  • This is amazing! I remember when I first heard it I fell in love with it. The album version is better though.

  • omg. wow. just, perfect.

  • yeah this is like a grizzly bear-ized version, prolly cause that is actually the grizzly bear bass player with them and he plays the bass part really differnt, i like it though, i like both versions haha

  • Well, Chris Taylor (the bassist) produced the album and he was one of two bassists on the album (the other played double bass) so that was him on the album :)

  • this is like a grizzly bear-ized version of the song

  • I got modded down? WTF? That wasn't an insult, let alone a criticism. Whoever did that can eat me.

  • I love this.

  • Does this remind anyone of Jeff Buckley?

  • yes. its always been strangely familiar...

  • cool!

  • thank you for posting. i was wondering where this was at.

  • My friend actually lives...right next door. Essex between Hester and Grand, across from Seward Park in Manhattan.

  • drenched in 'verb! but beautiful!

  • this is srsly amazing.

  • Wow, this "new" version of the song is amazing! I love those guys!

  • so good!

  • looooooooove this.
