similar thought , a doughnut shaped balloon with a shroud of steel to focus the flow, but from the end of the opening . secure tap of the pipe with the shroud , bring in secondary stabilized pipe , inflate , and pray !

Similar tools called packers already exist. They cant insert them against 4,000 psi.

A shock cutoff of flow would likely cause enough backpressure in the wellbore to cause a micro-annular blowout around the set casing and if not enough liner centralizers were used (suspect) the gas would channel outside the casing and blow out external to the bop.

@MindCrazedBanjo Hmmm since your such a genius, why don't you enlighten us all and tell us why this idea wouldn't work. Of course besides the fact that they don't have a balloon that size. But with all the money and engineers they can surely think of something to put in place of the balloon. Most American are not American at all. Most of them are from other Countries, so you can't just say all Americans have shit for brains because you'd of course be talking about every race on the planet.

@Malott55 It won't work because the pressure of the water down there is the equivalent to having a car weighing a ton on each inch of your body, you would need a very powerful compressor or water/fluid pump to be able to inflate any kind of balloon/bladder at that depth. Also the pressure at which the oil/gases are being emitted would always push any inflated device out the pipe. From what I have learn, the pipe is laying on its side with 3 holes in it, plus the end of the pipe

One idea to seal the pipe, is to place a concrete block on one side of the pipe so that it can't move sideways, then let off a small "shaped" charge on the opposite side of the concrete block, if done right this would create a kink in the pipe, this wouldn't stop the oil completely but it would stem the flow and buy time while they drill the relief well.

we may have to use Kung fu approach, which is to instead of blocking opponents energy you harmonize with it and use to your advantage. Build massive cistern with concrete footings around leak or hollow concrete footings like the ones that hold up Golden Gate Bridge. Launch global Dunkirk -like massive project of all nations concrete barges.

100lbs of pressure didn't break a normal balloon at full force inside the pipe, out side the pipe it would burst in a instant. and the balloon will be deflated all the way to the sea floor so ocean pressure wont bother it.

The Balloon does not have to be made of a durable substance because the balloon wont burst if it cant expand to its breaking point due to the confined area of the well walls as show in my experiment.
