  • HAUNTING....

  • One HOTTTT woman

  • Vicki Lawrence's version is the original from 1972. That song has covered so many times after the original version.

  • I think that everybody saying that they shouldn't call this a classic Reba hit needs to realize that when most people think of this song they think of Reba. Reba made it her own and took it to the top, along with Fancy. Most people don't know who Vicky Lawrence is, or they think her version sucks. Reba is known for this song so I think she deserves it. Give it a rest already.

  • LOVE Jennifer Nettles, but this song is just Reba....nobody can sing it better:)

  • The performance on the Kennedy Center show 12/27/2011 was stunning. I recently been given the gift of 2 powerful hearing devices and now I hear stereo without the bulky earphones. (I have a 75 to 80% hearing loss in the woman voice range so since about a month ago, The songs I hear are amazing. But last night's rendition of "hello" by Neil Diamond put Jennifer Nettles on my list of top fav songs. Thank you Jennifer. getting CD's very soon!!!!!

  • Jennifer has a very appealing stage presence and a nice singing voice.

  • Absolutly wrongly dressed !! Ikkkkkkkkk !! Her shoose looks Terrible !! Voice is ok- But Reba is Away Better ...

  • jennifer nettles is a good singer but reba would always sing this song better

  • ya ... classic REBA song ???? Vicki lawrence sang it first after it got rejected by about a dozen other top artists back in the day

  • I'm old enough to remember Vicki Lawrence singing this. I liked it then too.

  • I think that she is prettier than Reba... her voice is just as good... but, she sang it way too fast... more rock-a-billy than hill-billy...

Plus, she didn't put any emotion into it...

I just don't buy it... she doesn't sing like she's responsible for a moral killing and inadvertent murder of her innocent brother...

  • excellent version of this song ,thank you for posting it

  • That was AMAZING Jennifer... :-)

  • Jennifer totally reminds me of Reba, without making it seem like she's trying hard to be her. Jennifer just has that same aura and a lot of the same mannerisms. She also has a unique and distinct voice like Reba. And she's certainly got the talent. I love her!

  • @southernfeelings it'd be amazing if jen had her own tv show too!

  • Actually, Vicki Lawrence sang this song originally....Reba's version is a cover.

  • Reba is my all time favorite singer of any genre. Jennifer Nettles does an excellent job on this song...the vocal and the entertainment aspect...she just didn't stand there and sing and Reba surely appreciated that...while no one compares to Reba, Jennifer holds her own.

  • I think it's not that she didn't know the lyrics, it's more the nerves of performing for one of her biggest idols!! I don't think I would have been able to get a word out, even if I could sing a note!

  • When she sings, her expressions and body language says she's "living" what she's singing. So beautiful to watch such talent!

  • Comment removed

  • she's so so beautiful!

  • 3:46 shes like "omg whats up there?!" and then shes like, "rofl!" XD

  • NOTE: As much as I would love to marry Ms Nettles, I just want to note a very small lyrical error she made in the song (which I've watched about 20 times)....she sings "The SHERIFF" instead of "The JUDGE" said "guilty"....merely a point of interest....still love this version OK...no haters please! Cheers from Down Under

  • @hargra123 is she is good

  • @hargra123 Hah! Those lyrics are hard...It gets confusing sometimes...

  • Vicki Lawrence did not write the song either... her ex-husband did... she was the first to perform it.. in fact her version hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

  • @casey1027 i like vicki's vershen and voaice best

  • @shellnet411 isn't it Vicki Lawrence? She can't hang with Reba or Jennifer for that matter.

  • @estcst81 how did this get on my post i my fave is Vicki Lawrence vicki lawrence is grate

  • @shellnet411 Maybe instead of trolling this video you should go watch her version. Also maybe go back to elementary school and learn to spell.

  • @shellnet411 me to i dont know how or what this is this post dosent go Vicki Lawrence is mush beter then Reba or Jennifer

  • Jennifer is good, but no one can beat Reba on any song!

  • A great remake of a great song.

  • reba diddnt write the song vicky lawrence did

  • I Love Jennifer and Reba, and I know Jennifer must have been so nervous sing a song Reba made so famous. It's no wander she oop's the judge line, but like a pro shd didn't miss a beat, and I would bet most didn't notice until it was made known. You could she her discussing that with Reba when she was hugging Reba's neck. Great job Jennifer, just like Reba herself said.

  • I LOVE this version. I somehow managed to record it back in the day and turned it into an MP3 for myself. This is the first time in many years I found it in any other form. If anyone wants the MP3 I made, contact me by sending me a message at this youtube account. Obviously I'm not the only one who noticed the "sheriff said guilty on a make believe trial, slapped the sheriff on the back with a smile" part but still, I love her voice as much as I love Reba's. <3

  • I keep seeing people note that this was first sung by Vicki Lawrence. Not only was she the first to sing it, but her husband wrote the song thinking that it would be perfect for Cher. Cher turned it down and it was given to Vicki. Glad Cher didn't snatch it up.

  • Effortless.

  • Wonderful rendition!

  • I agree they need to do a duet, especially

after the wonderful harmonizing they did

during Jingle Bell Rock on the CMA Christmas Special. They were Great!

  • Jennifer and Reba NEED to do a duet!

  • @Rebaluvr1234 Their voices would blend really well together

  • it's a vickki lawrence hit

  • She did damn good on this, but reba is still better, And i finally get what the song is talking about, but the last time i heard this i was like six so... yeah

  • WOW, but what else but GREAT would she be on ANY SONG!

  • This is NOT a "Reba" song.... it was a huge hit by Vicki Lawrence in the 1970's!! No fanfare, no ego, just an eerily haunting song sung by a modest star! Vicki's song was an original and stood on its own merit, again without all the vocal runs that try to overpower today's 'pop' music!! Check out the original....

  • i think that they both did a great job and i love both ladies but Jennifer did mess up when she sang sheriff instead of judge said guilty in a make believe trial. but i think it was great.Reba does have better control.

  • She was great.

  • Lol my wife gave me the golden ticket to meet her lol. :)

  • I love both versions, regardless of who sings them because Great Music is just that Great music.

  • This was a huge hit by Vicki Lawrence waaaay before it was a Reba hit.

  • what a wonderfull voice she has jennifer so beautiful ,the best i thnk ..... :)

  • Reba & Jennifer's voice styles aren't THAT different. Reba has just a little more control than Jennifer does at times, but geesh .... how long has Reba been singing professionally? 35 years or so? Jennifer is barely that old. I'm working on my Masters of Music Theory, but I play sax & keyboards in soft rock & pop. I don't listen to country music ..... EXCEPT with someone the caliber of Jennifer Nettles doing the singing. And then I absolutely love it.

  • @offamychain She does have better control(Reba). I'm a big Sugarland fan, and agree with what you're saying. Jennifer has been singing a little longer than you realize though. But I agree.

  • wow she did great! he and reba are my inspirations i love them and reba i am sure is proud of jennifer for sure!

  • shes really pretty and i love her voice but whats with her lookin like a skeleton?

  • Sorry, I vote Reba

  • I love Reba, but this gifted singer BROUGHT IT, She has such a juicy tone to her voice and she paid great homage to Reba at her celebration...love them both because they are honest to God Singers...

  • Oh my God, she did an INCREDIBLE job on this song! When I first turned it on I thought it was actuallly Reba singing. She has so much talent! I love Jennifer Nettles :)

  • I think Vicki Lawrence did it best as she did it first.

  • Why is everyone freaking out. Both versions are great. Geez, everyone seriously has to chill. I could understand if it was like jessica simpson and she was totally butchering the song. But Jennifer did an awesome job.

  • Obviously someone who knows more about music and artist than you. Look @ their #1's and writing awards, not to forget Sold-Out venues! Everyone is not a fan of every artist, have some class BITCH!

  • REBA IS HOT

  • Comment removed

  • @sugarland97k74j70k and @girly359 you are both out of your minds (though you girly are more so than sugarland). Song would not be what it is today if not for Reba McEntire. She took a song by Vicki Lawrence and actually made it into something. I have seen Vicki's performance of this song and without reba we wouldn't be talking about this song today; it would be lost is the history of a tv show.

  • jennifer nettles did an AMAZING job but this is vicki lawrence's song

  • Jennifer did a wonderful job. Just think

how nervous it would be to sing in front

of Reba. I loved the respect u could see

she had for Reba. Well done Jenn!

  • "REBA's SONG" ??? My arse it is... This song belongs to Vicki Lawrence! And NOONE ELSE!

  • @Hammondm100 YOU GOT THAT RIGHT! WHO IN THE HELL GAVE THIS JENNIFER NETTLES BITCH A RECORD DEAL?

  • Jennifer really nailed it!! Reba's version is amazing too!! I love both artists!!!

  • I love how Jennifer sang that song!! She nailed it!!! Reba's version is amazing too!!

  • she sings with so much passion

  • Jennifer did a great job, but Reba is better. Now I LOVE Jennifer but this is Reba's song.

  • Jennifer's probably my favorite country singer..... but she doesn't really touch Reba when it comes to this song. I don't think anyone could. I mean.... its Reba. So why isn't Reba my favorite, you ask? Because Reba is like Hendrix, Beethoven, or Elvis. Its reference material. We all study them and carry on their teachings. Its common knowledge that Reba could tear the roof off of any establishment.

  • I'd like to give her a nice pearl necklace to go with that dress!

  • good song and very good singer.

i think Jennifer sings it better than Reba.

  • Jennifers voice is amazing for this song but Reba sings it better than anyone. No one can top Reba

  • nice :)

  • Coool

  • Jennifer is great! I am sorry this may be Vicki Lawrence's song but no one will ever be able to sing it like Reba can!!!

  • Jennifer Nettles is awesome and so is this song. Jennifer rocks!

  • Love Reba, Love Sugarland, hate the song

  • she messed up, its the judge said, not the sherriff said.

    lol

  • @jllove1992 BABABABABABABABABAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH ---SHE MESSED UP--- BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHBABABABABHAHAHAHAHHAHAH

  • Reba is from Oklahoma

  • love this song as well as reba......keep up the good work!!!

  • well thats the whole point, shes doing it in her own voice retards shes not trying to sound like reba shes sounding like jennifer

  • i love sugerland but Jennifer Nettle cant compare her octives to Rebas

I LOVE YOU REBA:) HOPE I SEE YOU SOON

  • so wait, yall think her accent is fake? i mean, its not a stretch..a lot of country stars fake it..but..idk.

  • yeah dont you ever hear her just talk but reba is that pure tenesse accent!

  • @Hannanball13 Rebas accents is actually an Oklahoma accent

  • this is an absolutely amazing performance by a very talented lady,

it doesnt matter whose version iz better

this was performed with aplomb, and even reba acknowledges her

KEEP ON SINGING JENNIFER,LUV YOUR GUYZ MUSIC

  • Okay, first of all, nobody can sing like Reba can so you cant just bash on Jennifer Nettles for this song. I think Jennifer Nettles has her own unique voice and i bet if anybody tried singing one of Sugarland's songs, they wouldnt be able to sound like her. and she deffinately has an all country vioce, especially with her accent, i think if they sang pop, they wouldnt fit in with the sound of their songs.

  • She's talked like that forever. I can see liking the original version better, but pop and Jennifer is a big HECK NO

  • Have you ever heard her speak normally? It's the same as the singing...but talking. Go listen to Settlin, Stay, or one of their other songs. In addition, of the current cadre of country artist Jennifer Nettles is probably the closest thing to Reba there is.

  • I think her accent is overdone too. She doesn't talk like she sings and it sounds a little too forced. But she is still good. She has good songs, and a good voice. But the unncesessary twang is weird I think. But I do like her. Of course nobody can sing it like Reba, but she still is pretty good at this song.

  • Reba's version is better

  • but when viki did it 1 she cant sing 2. it never made air play she was just a test for the song

  • i like this one

  • Uh, this wasn't Reba's song. Try Vicki Lawrence 20 years before.

  • was Vicky's FIRST, then Reba, MY fav version is Rebas however...

  • Vicky's was first.. Bobby Russel wrote it, IT'S NOT REBA'S song! It's a shame they didn't give the right woman credit at the intro.

I do love me some Reba though.. : )

  • I KNOW that Vicky's version was first, then Reba's lol, but thanks for the info. just the same, lol... I am 44 so I remember Vicky's song first... but in MY "opinion" I like Reba's BEST... Jenn does a good job too here, though, but Reba is STILL the best in my book... hands down! Reba is my gal.

  • this is true. I like all 3 though

  • You got it muggy! I like Reba but you gotta give Vicki credit where credit is due!

  • Best version I've heard since Vicky and Rebas... gotta love Jennifer... does anyone know WHEN this show aired, was it all a tribute to Reba, please let me know, when aired, what called and what channel was on. I am a HUGE Longtime Reba fan, love alot of the people paying trbute to her too, would like to see it if I can rewatch it. Missed it... Thanks.

  • oh honey it aired like summer of 2006 on CMT...

  • LOL well thank you sunny for gettin' back to me on it, I SURE DID miss the boat on that one then lol... don't know how, but lol... wow... I wish I could find out how to watch it, wonder if DVD is out for it, probably not though... Thank you. (:

  • it was called Giants:Reba, on CMT they aired a couple years ago i think but i think they have DVD's you can get of them... they did one on Hank Williams and someone else too

  • thank you rodeo...

  • Alan Jackson I believe

  • and alan jackson

  • She's such a hick! lol

  • i dont like this version at all. & jennifer makes some really weird faces when singing. but i do like songs from Sugarland.

  • I worked on this show and It was Nov. '06. "CMT Giants: Reba"

  • it was at least two years ago as i saw it on CMT when i was in florida. was a tribute to Reba

  • I like Jennifer as a female vocalist she is great. I first heard her on the video WHO SYA'S YOU CAN'T GO HOME. with Bon Jovi. I am not a big fan of Jovi, I enjoy the song because of Jennifers vocals.

  • It's amazing, Jennifer is the best singer in the whole world!

  • agreed. Jenn sure can bring on the heat. Love ya! Well done cover!

  • I love Jennifer Nettles so much! As always, she roced the song!!! Still, does anyone seem to know that the song was originally Vicky Lawrence's, NOT Reba's???

  • to Cstars1012, yes, I know it's Vicky Lawrence's, only problem, that Vicky is more known to everybody for her acting, not singing and Reba just happen to make more popular, that's why.

  • I agree. it's just that everyone seems to think the song was originally Reba's. I actually didn't know Vicky for her acting until recently, but I understand what u mean. I guess I'm just nitpicky lol

  • to Cstars1012, you are not the first to do about this song and who originated and wouldn't be last, but that's ok. I believe a lot of singers have recorded this song, that sometimes when its a very popular song.

  • lol! me! :) I grew up listening to VL sing it, but all todays versions are just as good! The lyrics are so haunting!

  • i highly doubt she'd want to marry some obsessive computer nerd

  • Jennifer could sing the friggin' phone book and I'd be captivated.

  • lol uh huh

  • I think she sung it good. But she didn't have the intensity that Reba did when she sung the song.

  • Reba my girl, but Jenn killed her! Bow!

  • she sings it good. but she doesnt sing it as good as reba!

  • Jennifer Nettles Sings this Song Better The Reba!!

  • i think she did it better than reba

  • she does sing this song better then Reba

  • she sings better than almost anyone

    lol

  • You do know that This isn't Reba's song. She just did a cover of it in 1991. It was actually sung by Vicki Lawrence in 1972. It was a #1 hit then. Look it up.

  • when was this and what was the occassion?

  • It was on the Giants of country music tribute to Reba

  • Reba Giants special

  • She sings this song well but I think Reba does the best job. I love Jennifer though! She is great! I think she is such a great singer!

  • Gahh! She could sing the damn phone book and I would love it and be amazeddd!

  • reba wore black gloves in the video of this song... because reba was the killer in the song..

  • I love Jen and Kristian but what's with the black gloves?

  • Both Reba and Jennifer could sing the phonebook and make a hit out of it. Thanks for posting!

  • I think this is my favorite version

  • Huntinbear: Actually, it was Vicki's hit but her only big hit. Reba covered the song and it was a big hit for Reba too so it is a hit of Reba's! Reba's version was a bigger hit than Vicki's!

  • Now lets not be mean to Reba, she is a great singer and thats fine if you dont agree with me on that. However Reba is a nice person and you have to agree on that. Yes you are right about if it werent for Vicki, it wouldnt have been a hit for Reba but anyways, I think Reba did an awesome job on the song.

  • Youre right, if it wasnt for vicki, it wouldnt have been a hit for Reba. I also agree it would be a hit for Jen N if she covered it...and I also agree Vicki doesnt sing well but I think Reba is GREAT!

  • one of the best of the night

  • and it's not reba's hit, it is actually Vicki Lawrence's Hit.

  • I love Jennifer but I can't handle anyone else singing this song but Reba!!

  • Damn right, though Reba rocked it! and so did tanya tucker!

  • Comment removed

  • Nice one Jennifer !

  • i Love this song sung by jennifer! i love her facial expressions when she says "suppers waitin at home and i gotta get to it"

  • well for people from the south like me it is... u must be from the very north

  • naw im from north carolina and not the yankee part either. Somebody mentioned the "supper's waiting at home" line and I meant that when the judge says "Supper" he ain't talking bout a plate of chicken

  • Whoa, this just sounds creepy! Awesome, I love it, but still creepy! :)

  • I get so happy when I see this performance. It was the first time I heard/saw Jennifer (wish it was sooner) and I was thinking "I've got to hear more of her!!" and that lead to a Sugarland obsession.

  • Loved this performance on tv. Glad to find it on here. Didn't realize until I just watch it...she flubbed the words.

"Sherrif said gulity on a make-believe trial" is what she says.

"Judge said guilty..." is what it's supposed to be.

Still love her to pieces, though.

  • I absolutely, truly love this performance!!!!! I wish Sugarland did a duet with Reba on her CD. It would have been great!!

  • Awesome! That you ?

  • No, this is the lead singer of a Country Duo called "Sugarland", if that's what you were asking... :-)

I love this song, I love Reba, and I love Jennifer. AWESOME!

I hope Sugarland opens for Keith Urban in my area!

  • awe i miss Jennifer she so cute great singer

  • you miss her? where did she go? lol

  • nowhere but i miss her long hair and i saw Sugarland in concert i miss seeing her in person never met her though but want to so badly Jennifer Nettles is my idol

  • Is it just me, or does Jennifer Nettles sound A LOT like Reba?

  • Better. (:

  • I SWEAR IM NOT STALKING YOU!

    but i agree =]

  • Hahah. I love the face she makes when she's like "Supper's waiting at home and I gotta get to it." and then at the end, she tries to be all serious, and she cracks up. And then it's so cute at the end where she hugs Reba, she looks so...fragile! And then she's like "Oh, I was so nervous!" But I loved it. (:
