Good call! My mistake. Even so, the American Spirit is 1,004' long. Not even the biggest ship on the lakes. (As my previous post indicated the Tregurtha is)

Here's the correction: This ship is the longest on the Great Lakes. This is the Paul Tregurtha. She measures 1,013' 6". She belongs to the Interlake fleet.

That's nowhere near the longest ship in the world. Knock Nevis is 1,504.10 ft long. Emma Maersk is 1,300 ft long.

close..but this ship is in a 5 way tie for 2nd largests ship on the great lakes at 1004 feet long but the paul r tregurtha is a little longer at 1013 feet long.

They don't go on the ocean. Only the great lakes. They bring iron ore down to the auto companies to make steel. Also a lot of grain.

We get a lot of foreign boats in the lakes also.

We call these ships.

I didn't get the name of the ship, but it is a great lakes freighter. On the lakes, they call them boats. The picture was taken in Marine City MI which is on the St Clair River.
