Im a Anarchist at heart, have seen it work in a small community. At the end of the day, we mammals and should learn from our cousins...Elephants, wolfes, monkeys etc
& btw I was also a squatter the first time I heard zounds - about 20 years after this record came out - & too experienced bitter cold, problems w/cops, endless personal dramas & all the rest but that was only one side, there were so many good things too that made it all worthwhile...the sheer joy of working on something for yourself and not for some boss or landlord...I dunno, that's just my take, just wanted to put out there that it's not all misery that turns you into a john galt wannnabe...
"I just don't see any importance in money." So how do you intend to earn your keep, is someone to just give it to you? Who?
Think of it this way - If I buy a bag of sugar for £1, what have I lost? Nothing, as I wanted the bag of sugar more than the £1 and the seller wanted the £1 more than the sugar, both of us has gained and lost nothing. No offence intended but your thinking with a caveman-like mind as if living in a cave is the best we can hope for.
@coltrane1966 yunno, I've known plenty of old political punks who settled into liberalism, plenty more into total apathy and a fair few (more than you might think) who've held more or less true to their ideals, but I think you're the first I've ever heard of making the leap right from crass to ayn rand...massively amusing, in any regard. bonus points for literally making a "looters" reference on a video for perhaps -the- single preeminent ode to squatting. do they owe us a living...
@coltrane1966 fair enough, didn't mean to imply you just woke up one day & swapped out goldman for rand. transition reminds me of radicals going over to fascism in between WWI & 2 (not to equate objctvsm w/the fash, mind), the greater susceptibility of those attracted to political extremes to go from one end to the other rather than fall back into the middle...anyway I mean it's your life or as zounds put it "it's your world too" so best to ya...
@coltrane1966 oh one other thing - you have to understand that here in the U.S. outside the a-ist/radical scene (incl. punk segment thereof) terms like libertarian etc are hopelessly confused, not mention tosh like "anarcho-capitalism" (an academic creation of Murray Rothbard fetishists essentially)...anyway reckon you & I might see eye to eye on a few things and be polar opposites on all the rest. which is fine.
Zounds are headlining the DIY Drop Dead Festival happening in Vilnius, Lithuania, 19-23 of August. There is also a DIY arts week, a movie festival and art exhibitions
The Tickets are great value at €65 (early bird) €75 standard.
22 other bands have been confirmed with more been added.
@mandacruickshank : Before i only saw the front of the almbum, and i saw firemen try to fight against fire, now i see they fight against fire with oil
@seigneurvoland666 There were some good times but the novelty soon wore off after hunger, coldness, violence and police harassment also you don't want to get ill, Oh No! I suppose the experience made me realise the value of money, individuality, privacy and freedom and probably helped form my political views which most consider very right wing, perhaps they are but I'm not a Conservative or racist and definitely not Socialist.
@seigneurvoland666 Money is not wealth it is only a representation of it, real wealth is anything from your shoes to the car you drive or the food you eat, they are of value.
I.E. it (money) has to be backed up by something real, useful and productive.
But if money is only of value because of belief then I would have thought all our troubles would have been over at the invention of the printing press.
@coltrane1966 Money ain't gonna get you through everythin. When a man is trying to bash your head, are you gonna chuck bills at him? I'd choose genuine friendship and the " novelty" over money anyday.
@noobishdumbberry Why do you think it's an 'either, or' scenario? To make money honestly requires co-operation, communication, productive hard-work, pleasing your customers and making friendships.
When people tell me money is an evil they usually have earned dishonestly, looking for some sort of hand-out or turn out to be the looters.
@coltrane1966 Yeah, making money can require that. I just don't see any importance in money. And making money often takes place at anothers expense. I don't like the thought of looting myself up at anothers fall. Money would be important if it were used correctly. Sadly, instead of buying things that matter like food, clothing, etc. People blow it on meaningless crap that rockets the sales of corporate businessmas. Rich countries literally abuse money.

@coltrane1966 the squatting lifestyle can't last can it ? What are you doing now? working like the avg man?
seigneurvoland666 1 year ago
@seigneurvoland666 Can't say I'd really recommend that lifestyle to anyone.
I work in the printing trade now and own my home as I certainly don't want to end up like that again.
coltrane1966 1 year ago
@coltrane1966 haha i can imagine. I think it's worth it for a bit though no? What problems did you encounter squatting that you found unpleasant?

@coltrane1966 I c i c. The value of money is illusory. We make it valuable by believing it's valuable, which, in some sense, it is indeed
