This was quite interesting......I have collected a goodly number of CDs of songs from the Appalachia region of the country. I'm particularly fond of shape note singing. Thanks so much for posting this!
I believe this was recorded at the Defeated Creek Church in Letcher County! Elwood Cornett lining the song! I keep listening for my daddy in there but I think this was recorded after his death in 2000!
elwood cornnett in my uncle im shelby hogg im from letcher county whitesburgh or blacky the cornnetts and hoggs are all related this jus brings back memoris
This is a live recording but not sure the location. Credit due Indian Bottom Old Regular Baptist Association.............you can google search for more info..........Thanks
Thank you so much for posting. I was born in Eastern Kentucky and grew up in the Old Regular Baptist Church. There is no other sound like this. I live in a big city now, but no distance could ever be too far to take my heart away.

My dad was a preacher here in Knott County. These songs bring back a lot of memories. We lived in Quick Sand / Decoy.

This type of music with the "Westminister Divines" in England over 500 years ago.
I had nothing to do with slaves.

Note the "call and response". Taught to the slaves by Scottish over seers.... Slaves perfected the form.....they had nothing else.

Beautiful singing. Was this recorded at one of the churches or out by a cemetery.

@KyHazard
Thanks. I was born in Letcher County. Many of the scenes are from there including my Grandpa on the hay rake. Glad you enjoyed it.
