  • i can see why ppl don't like Nico's vox stylings, but then again i see ppl everyday who don't appreciate art.

  • holy crap all of these VU Beck covers are horrendous...

  • @216Dead ...ly amazing!

  • PS. Nico sucks so bad, she almost singlehandedly brought that whole album down, so Beck gets a lot of leeway.

  • The only reason I ever heard of VU is that as a 16-year old, I had to know why R.E.M. was covering so many of their songs. Now, I deeply understand VU's prominence among rock and roll's all time greatest - top 5, easily.

As a Beck fan, it's beside the point to judge whether he does a "great" job covering these tunes. As I recall, those R.E.M. versions were almost rehearsal-quality toss-offs, but they worked for me.

He's making a statement by covering the entire album and I appreciate it!

  • I love It!

  • It takes alot of balls to redo the whole fucking VU album.

Maybe this one will grow on us. It's hard to find VU covers

that stand well compared to the originals. The Modern Lovers

did a good version of Foggy Notion though.

  • I like VU and Beck but this cover just sounds really sloppy.

  • she complements him as nico does for lou. i should know i heard this song more than one thousand times. so just believe me. ok

  • I think the girl's harmonies ruin it, it'd obviously be brilliant otherwise..

  • While it is refreshing to hear a cover that is not trying to sound exactly like the original, I'm just not fond of these covers. Just not my style. I like noisy music, but I feel like they are throwing too much into these songs to make it work.

  • cooool - the beatgoesonandonandonandon...

  • this is blasphemy

  • They certainly do better on the up tempo songs, but it's hard to judge covers by the fact they are clouded by the disposition that covers must live up to the originals. Digressing, it is an interesting batch of songs, but a little to inconsistent for me.

  • sigh...outta respect to anyone that pays homage to a song by doing a cover, i wish comparisons would fall by the wayside, as if it matters in the first place....of which it doesn't and never will...it's a compliment to vu by beck & his crew, people. the original was almost 50 years ago; & for that matter everybody used to do everybody else's songs & no one cared...i'm personally glad freaky is alive and well...beck's waiting for my man blew me away.

  • Record Club is an improv side-project of friends recording one ENTIRE album in one day, first spontaneous take....anything goes, anything can happen

Nice to see somebody still being spontaneous in this predictable business of bottom liners.....

  • the velvets original had that raw feeling to it almost felt as if you were running, this feels -_-

  • You can hear Nigel Godrich coming through in this version. I like the nursery rhyme sensibility of it. He really made a lot of the album feel very playful, which I never gathered from the original.

  • this completely sucks ass, does he really need the words in front of him, theres like 4 verses

  • The comments on this video are stupid as hell. I can't imagine why someone would think that cover is a) horrible and/or b) features Hayley Williams of Paramore.

  • And may Joe bless you.

  • This is a good cover, I think. Reminds me of Modern Guilt a lot.

  • this is horrible

  • was she hayley williams?

  • too electronic.

the original somehow seems filthier, and i love it that way

  • this is probably the best cover id say the rest of the album is awesome too

  • im in a casino.. waaahh
