Anyone who thinks we should stop burning coal needs to push for viable alternatives. This is like bulldozing your existing house before the new one has been built. We need a smart agenda for energy replacement not one that simply curtails the sources that we now use.

This was actually about not building a NEW coal powered plant...not about shutting all existing coal plants down right now. Instead we could build a new...wind farm, for example.

I work for a steel company that makes windtower steel. The windtower industry is already building them pretty fast thanks to tax incetives from the Bush administration. Without the tax breaks these projects have been scaled back. New ones also face stiff challenges from some wildlife activists and property owners. PS There can be clean coal with carbon capture technology which also gets fought by some greenies.

While I do understand the value of clean environment - I have a biology degree there are other issues as well - such as How many windmills does it take to melt a slab of steel?

Or to run a city like Charlotte? How many stupid zoning ordinances are being made to stop home owners from building/installing home based wind mill systems.

How many idiot laws stop people from installing harmless water wheels in streams and rivers?
