I think The Nice' version is absolutely bloody awful! Though I find Tim's version one of the most beautifully painful and heartfelt vocals of all time!
I really don't like this version, though. Sorry, Artealee. Is it you or a family member? I mean, it's obviously very nicely played but I don't like the synth and the song is nothing without those vocals.
I don't think it can be covered at all though. It is such a part of Hardin.

No. Tim Hardin wrote the song, recored and released it in 1966. The Nice did a cover version in 1974.Look at the Wiki

I think the Nice were actually playing, if not having yet recorded, in 69.

Keith Emerson was in the Nice before ELP. When you see the video of the Nice version, that is Keith Emerson and co. doing it.
