I stopped playing the game on April 12th, then a few months later, Before I decided to play Shenmue again, wanting to go back to the beginning to recap on the story, I tried sneaking one last time, and I got it on my first try. Then I eventually got to Apr. 15th and this ending happened. lol I beat the game sometime last year though. I just got Shenmue 2 recently so I 'm going to play the 1st one again since it didn't come with the movie. Hope I don't get stuck again. lol

This game needs a reboot; the colorful costumes show that this game was obviously designed with 16 bit era conventions in mind, however in a modern game RPG that wardrobe just won't work (for the other characters besides Ryo). Ryo's tiger jacket still works, but the cheesy clothing of the female characters has got to go.

@EarlSnake an easy way to get their is to continuously fail the QTE where you need to catch the fleshlight falling from the guard's office at the harbor. You can just leave you Dreamcast and check on it every few minutes to see how far you've advanced. ;)

Shenmue was made in the late 1990's, so some 16 and 32 bit era design conventions were still in effect. Its easy to forget Shenmue is a late 90's game because it was so far ahead of its time. It may even end up skipping the current generation.

QTE, the slow pacing, the searching elements. And horrible driving sequences in RPG/Action games hahaha. Im really hoping Shenmue 3 is made into reality. Hopefully the DLC Shenmue will be released and be a huge hit!

@AceMyth1 Suzuki originally had 15 chapters planned, 3 discs each on the Dreamcast. That is a grand total of 45 discs; in today's gaming technology, its possible to have the entire Shenmue saga, on 3 PS3 blu ray discs, 50 gigs each. The series needs a reboot, a pacing overhaul, and more action and more puzzles, not to mention more side quests to keep people interested. You see, both Shenmues were rush jobs, and they even feel that way when you play them.

@AceMyth1 also, shenmue chapter 2, needs a skin flick style sex scene in which Ryo loses his virginity to Xiu Ying; it is after all a coming of age story right? I think Suzuki meant for the story to turn out that way because, come on now, Xiu Ying DID NOT need to be hot. When it comes to martial arts or any skills, a woman's looks are irrelevant, its how competent she is. Her hotness was meant for something other than gratuitous panty shots.

@AceMyth1 the reason Shenmue was never a hit, was because of story pacing issues; think man, the only thing that kept me playing, was the story, and the then state of the art martial arts effects. When you got stuck though, when the story slowed down, it was BORING. Someone on the internet even made a comic book joking about it "Hi, I'm Ryo Hazuki, and I will avenge my fathers death; after I drink some sodas! And play video games! And play with these toys!"

Shenmue was lots of fun to play in my opinion and i loved to walk around the town and talk to people and explore the stores and play in the arcade and do all the other fun stuff you could do.

Shenmue made me really feel like i was living in a real town and i loved to pretend that i lived in it when it got very late i returned home, talked to the family and played my saturn before going to bed.

I freaking loved playing Shenmue all the time in the game.

Until April? Guess I have plenty of time to max out Ryo's martial arts moves. At least his strikes; I really wanted to work on his grappling but fucking Fukusan is a lazy ass. I suppose that could be a reason that, why in Asia, striking was favored over grappling; with strikes you can train on your own, but with grappling, hard working partners are tough to find. Oh yeah, you can download Shenmue from coolroms if you got a dreamcast emulator to work.

actually it was his solar plexus and if it floor you to get there by the likes of a bodybuilder, Lan Di could certainly kill you with it. Yes Ryo is a martial artist and could easily beat down a normal person on the street but he attacks out of anger and when that is used against other professional martial artists, he'll likely lose. Plus Lan Di has studied all there is to be the perfect martial art master,and Ryo isn't even half way there yet!

maxing out Ryo's martial arts moves makes it possible to beat Chai in the arcade. To beat Chai just hammer the "Y" button (the green one) and counter. Ryo's moves need to be maxed though, at least some, otherwise he has no chance.

The fast way to do this is to reach the part were you have to sneak into the harbor to try to meet master Chen and fail several times the QTE were Ryo has to grab the flashlight to avoid alerting the guard. Each time you fail time advances by one day.

it eventually gets to a point where when you lose so many times, the game only sets about 2/3 guards in there to make it super easy for you. I should n=know i failed it so many times that it did that for me

no its not, the cutscene at the beginning was Hazuki Sensei (Ryo's father) being killed by Lan Di this is the ending after time runs up in the game and Ryo is killed by Lan Di they are different.

I never had this ending at all. I remember Ryo defeating the old scary guy, and then going to Hong Kong. Lan-Di actualy came back to look for the other mirror, which is surprising, since he seemed to be far away from there.

That really isn't a nice ending, though. Ryo is the only one with potential to even take him down; yet, he get's owned with that odd attack in one blow? That made no sense.
