  • Note how when Andrew Lloyd-Webber goes on about "I couldn't repeat the Phantom's success." he looks at his piano a lot possibly thinking "Well, there's no harm in trying."

  • Till "Love Never Dies".....I to do not agree Christine made the right choice with going with Raoul but it was the way it was suppose to be and the phantom gave your the greatest gift of being free, in love, and happy by letting go. Somethings should just be left with "Fin". I do say good luck to Lloyd though, cause to have a success like The Phantom Of The Opera and now trying to create the sequel with Love Never Dies you will need all the luck you can get!

  • Even though that little old lady who answered her phone during the show was rude by doing so, it's still a funny story.

  • Thank you for posting this 9 part series. Thoroughly captivating. I appreciate your effort and extra info on the making of Phantom. Thanks again so much. kindest thoughts to you.

  • @Marylmac - You are most welcome, my dear friend.

  • Hahaha! Omg I TOTALLY agree with the lady that said Christine made a bad choice lol is she blind? The Phantom is a totally sex bomb!!!! Raoul is just a poop face! The Phantom is so much more talented and romantic!!!!!!

  • Let's see how easily that critic can support a soprano voice. He doesn't even know the meaning of the technique he's speaking of. Is he one of the rare male sopranos? My guess is no... so he can have a nice steaming cup of STFU.

  • @Apollostowel

    AMEN.

  • After watching this i have nothing but the upmost respect for Sarah. She was never my favorite Christine but I'm getting to see what was so special about her. Without her this show would not be and i think she deserves something for that.

  • Brightman dose look like a freshman highschooler, but her voice makes up for it.

  • Made the music of my night....

  • Michael Crawford does a pretty good impersonation of an American old lady...

  • "i wish i could expand upon it but i cant"

    ...........hello Love Never Dies

  • I am so thankful my highschool band got to play the music of Phantom. I want to see this show so badly. If you want search "The Phantom of The Opera Melody" and click the second video, I hope you enjoy it.

  • howard kissle wouldnt know tallent if it smaked him up side his head he is an ass

  • Thank you sooo much for posting this up. It brought a whole new light onto the Phantom of the Opera musical for me.

  • "It was 20th Century pov, v's 21st Century! 21st Century win's everytime."

  • thank you so much!! but this last video has no sound =/

    thanks for all the videos

    awesome

  • thank you so much for this documentary! i so wish i could have seen this with the original cast!!

  • that critic Howard Kissel is so BLIND! how can he say that the best Christine Daae was "ok". Am i like the only one thats see this?!?!?!

  • I bet you 500 dollars that I'm gonna be Christine someday!!!!!

  • Lol "A knight in shinning Armani!" XD I'm going to say Armani instead of armor from now on!

  • I'm so glad that Sarah is still good friends with Andrew even though they're divorced! No grudges or anything- and that picture of them is just adorable!

  • @Roccarocks I agree I think all celebrity couples should follow their example and should remain good friends, but I think the reason why Sarah and Andrew divorced was because she saw him more as a mentor really, it wasn't that she didn't like him, she just saw him more as a father figure than a husband really......

  • I agree with Kissel.

  • "97, 245, 280 tonight, 50".....Wow! That's going to be me one day!!!!

  • thanks for sharing this documentary! I've been a fan since I was 12/13 years old when I saw it. It was my first musical, that opened my eyes about music, theater and dancing. It is still one of my favorite!

  • What is Kissel on about that part wouldn't have existed if it weren't for Sarah as the composer was inspired to write the musical for her. I agree with the first critic

  • girl at 2.27 looks like ALW

  • Many many thanks for sharing this. I have been a fan since I was a lucky little girl who was taken to see it when I was 10 years old. One thing though, how on earth was the wonderful Steve Barton not mentioned once throughout this doc? I'm not a fan of Raoul as a character but his voice, esp in songs like All I Ask of You was just heavenly. A wonderful wonderful voice cruelly omitted from this making of. Still very enjoyable though, so thank you again :)

  • @sophsoph84 - You are most welcome.

  • I have been a Phan for so long now, yet have never actually seen the show. That needs to happen, like, now!

  • Thank you, sir. A job well done!

  • @exxcalibur1973 You are most welcome, my friend.

  • I actually thought Claire made a better Christine. The only reason she was casted is because she was married to Andrew. Anyone that says anything different is a bullshitter. She "auditioned" but she was going to be picked anyway.

Claire Moore has a way better voice than Sarah's in my opinion and she's a way better actress. Sarah plays Christine like she's a barbie.

Michael however is just absolutely fabulous however you try and slice it. He will always be the best phantom

  • @CatClaws27 I feel as though the whole point of Christine Daae is that she is so naive that any depth of emotion is too much. She's easily tricked into thinking a regular man (a genius mind you, but still regular) was a ghost!! And walked off with him nearly of her own accord.

  • @SMSProductions1 Good point and a nice interpretation. I can definitely see that.

  • okay i found out what i want for my 20th b day, i wanna go see this. i just wish i could see it with micheal in it ,sad face :(

  • this dude needs to be smacked!

  • Why do even critics bash Raoul...poor Raoul...

  • that critic really pisses me off, saying that sara wasn't good because she's not pretty enough or that her voice isn't good enough. first of all, its refreshing to have a main character in a story who isn't a cookie-cutter plastic model, and her voice is apparently good enough to make an entire career out of. that critic can screw himself

  • "She's not all that attractive..."

He's not really one to talk!

@treecagara -- thanks for uploading this!

  • hahaha Crawford's impression of the American woman is hilarious!

  • I hate the fact that she keeps stressing that it's "just women" who rave about the Phantom and the production. I'm a guy, and I absolutely LOVE the phantom. Seeing it live was one of the best experiences of my life. I think It would be amazing for any man or woman.

  • Does a "dresser" get to do what I think she does? Oh my, I'd end up getting arrested if I had that job and I'm 62! There's a hilarious anecdote in his book where he was feeling ill and a female doctor comes to check him out just as he's about to do the show and he's standing there wearing nothing but the make up and tennis shoes - can you just picture that??

  • Is there videos on youtube where you can see part of the theatre? I adore how they could make it... And would appreciate a link or so :O)

  • Wow! Michael does a very good impression of an elderly American woman on a cell phone!!! XD

  • To this mr critic guy who says sarahs wasnt attractive dont go pointing fingers when they might not be clean!

  • "I've learned in time not to take those things too seriously" I really admire what a strong woman Sarah is....Sarah can I please borrow some of your self esteem?!

  • Sarah seems to have a pretty healthy attitude about her critics. I love Sarah, but I understand that her voice has a unique timbre to it that some people don't find appealing. She isn't letting snarky observers get the best of her and I really admire her for that.

  • The guy who said that Sarah Brightman was not attractive needs to look at himself in the mirror. And Steve Harley should just shut up. Choirboy voice!!!!! Micheal Crawford was the perfect Phantom and he did not sound like a choirboy!!

  • "She would not have had that part were she not married to the composer" There would be no part for her to have if were she not married to the composer. She inspired the music through their love and marriage. There would be no Phantom if she were not married to the composer.

  • Comment removed

  • Hahaha knight in shining Armani.

  • To the most amazing show on Broadway: Thank you (:

  • only ugly women are fan of Phantom. Not that type of women Phantom is dreaming of.....

  • Fan of PHANTOM?

Don't want to see the characters and their story butchered for future generations?

Then be appalled to know that in Lloyd Webber's unwelcome sequel, entitled LOVE NEVER DIES, which is based on a flop novella by Frederick Forsyth, the Phantom no longer composes opera but trashy vaudeville while not being a bartender, Christine sleeps around, Meg becomes a topless dancer who murders Christine and Raoul becomes an alcoholic and wife abuser.

Find out more @ LoveShouldDie [dot] Com

  • @LoveShouldDie One thing. They never say that Raoul's a "wife abuser". Get a life.

  • 6:55 I will never do anything as big as the Phantom of the Opera ever again or another one like it.Ironic he did make a sequel to it in 2010 Phantom:Love Never Dies.

  • Howard Kissel shut the fuck up!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Any bets that Sarak only married him to get famous? She dumped him right afterwards. The only sad thing is I think he actually loves her.

  • Tyne Daly after her win in "Gypsy" perhaps said it best w/regard to critics:

"They are the soldiers that never go to war, but after an engagement, wander the battlefield and shoot the wounded."

  • dude WTF is wrong with that jackass kissel? Sarah Brightman not attractive with a thin voice?? ok just go jump off a cliff and do yourself a favor....idiot, he'd be lucky if Sarah even spits on him...

Phantom needed Sarah, without her it wouldnt have worked. Critics are assholes anyway...

ALW knows he'll never have another phantom, he doesnt have his muse anymore, but atleast he has this under his belt and Sarah is the biggest Soprano of all time so its all good :)

  • "He's an architect, he's a musician, he's a magician..."

    ...and he's a kidnapper, he's an extortioner, and he's a MURDERER.

Don't get me wrong, I love Erik, he's one of my favorite characters of all time. But I know why Christine didn't choose him. People often forget those very real parts of his character.

  • TY SOOOO Much for this!!!!

  • BTW Treecagara you made my day! TY! Forget those copyrighting mean people. lol

  • @IxAmxSpartacus - You are most welcome, my friend.

Yes, this so called copyright is really a menace!

  • Just FYI Phantom opened in 1986...not 1976.

  • "I know for certain that I'll never have anything as big as Phantom again because it would be very hard to see how a musical could be..."

And yet you're trying to do just that with a Phantom sequel, Andrew? You're either a greedy jerk who's full of himself or just plain stupid.

  • So if he thought HER voice was thin then what the heck did he think of Emmy Rossum?!

  • Steve Barton

  • The US tour is closing :'(

  • How come?

  • Combination of things, I think. The bad economy right now probably has something to do with it.

Then there's the sequel, which is extravagant in the money department. They also may want to tour the sequel, and they might not have the funds for running two tours at a time.

Whatever the cause, I am not a happy phan.

  • Also, was Steve Barton even mentioned once in this entire bloody doc? And any kind word said of Raoul? I don't understand the hate towards the character.

  • @MagDuke More appalling than that, I hear they're going to turn him Raoul an abusive drunk in the sequel. >:(

  • He died in 2001, so this documentary was probably made after his death.

  • who died ?

  • Kissel is a moron, like most critics.

  • HAHAHA ily Michael Crawford. =)

    2:06 - 2:23

  • Howard Kissel, you're an a**hole.

  • Sarah Brightman not all that attractive? He needs his brain and eyes checked.

  • I think people look down their nose at her because andrew was still married when she and he got together. Like it doesn't take two to tango?

  • sucks

  • @iluvsnoopy25

And look at himself in the mirror

  • @iluvsnoopy25 did you look at him? :)

  • Thanks for taking the time to post this. I'm sorry they took away audio for 1 of the 9 parts?! Random. I doubt the BBC or even the LORD Webber himself would really care...

  • knight and shinning Armani lol!

  • how the narrator says "well, just women, really." when talking about women going to see Phantom kinda ticks me off. everyone thinks any man that goes to see a play or musical is gay. thats wrong

  • I couldn't agree with you more, I've been in theatre since I was 11 and I'm sick of the stereotype! :P

  • Did you know that Lloyd Webber's sequel will premiere in the 100th anniversary year of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA? Gaston Leroux's original novel was first serialised in 1909 and first published in book format in 1910. To find out more and to receive all the latest news concerning everything PHANTOM, follow @fantomedelopera on Twitter!

  • howard kissel is a bastard!

  • KILL THE CRITICS

  • I could live without the media in general, just a bunch of money hungry hyena's.

  • thanks 4 uploading this!

  • I got Michael's in concert DVD :D I can't wait or it to come!!!

  • I specially love him as frank spencer

    the character is hilarius

  • -sigh-I would probably die to find a time machine,go back in time to 1988,see Phantom there, meet Michael Crawford, happy ending. And Michael Crawford a sex symbol then....god thats why so many girls love him then and now.Including me!

  • same here. we ll have to think of a way to get a time machine...

  • i prefer claire moore to sarah. claire has more support in her voice, but sarah is just as good. i love crawford though! hes the best phantom ever!

  • Michael Crawford is so adorable. I Iove him

  • wow, phantom was my first theatrical experience and watching this video still gives me goosebumps even after so many years. I envy the ladies who've seen more than 200 performances. unfortunately, i've only seen it probably a dozen times. "you alone can make my song take flight...it's over now...the music of the night"- never fails to bring me to tears.

  • I think it's funny how Andrew says he can't write another POTO but now he's written a sequel. Can't wait!

  • Really? WOW! I can't wait either!

  • "She was the best Christine we ever had..."

My sentiments exactly. I love Sarah's voice!

  • I was channel surfing this evening when I passed over this documentary on my guide. My face lit up. I had been dying for some new Phantom stuff. I selected it off my guide and found out I wasn't subscribed to the channel it was playing on ... D: was about all I could do ... Later, it occurred to me that someone may have put it up on youtube and luckily enough for a silly little phan like me, you did! Thank you so much for putting this whole documentary up! <3

  • You are most welcome.

  • if oyur looknig for some phantom stuff type in phantomreviews on youtube

  • @ThePhantomOtaku I agree!!!!!!!!!

  • And I would have had security find the cell-phone woman and "politely" tell her to refrain from doing that in the future.

  • Best way to shut a critic up is to ask them what they've done. "Have you acted on stage? Have you sung in front of a few hundred thousand people?" They usually don't have much of an answer.

  • i love yooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuu trecagara!!!! i realy love u xD i´m just so happy, for have seen this!! thanks a lot!!! :D

  • You are most welcome.

  • whoaa they're so rude about sarah...i love sarah...

  • 245, 280-OMG, those lucky, lucky ladies!! What I would have paid to go to just one!!

Treecagara, thank you so much for uploading this program. It was fascinating!

  • You are most welcome.

  • But you did do another Andy.

  • yea she "says" she would have picked the phantom over Raoul. But would she put up with his disformity in the "real world"

and i'm not picking, i'm alwayz in the phantom's shoes

  • OMG, they needed Sarah, she is the only Christine. Her voice is suppose to be unique, that is why the PHANTOM chooses Christine, because she isn't like any voice he has heard and he wants to train her.

  • Dude, thanks a lot for posting these videos.

  • You are most welcome, my friend.

  • I'm glad that you got to see Michael as THE PHANTOM "shastasladybear" but you didn't say a word about how you enjoyed HIS PERFORMANCE...only the show. I love Erna Dias. She is so right...I saw Michael to and he is a sexy man period wether hes playing the Phantom or just being himself. Hes also Fantastic with his fans and Michael will be in Long Beach, Ca. for a huge fan weekend from June 12th to June 15th. Michael might even let us know what his next project might be.

  • Thank you so much for uling this! And I thought the documentary on the dvd was interesting!

    You are such a doll--thanks again. :)

  • You are most welcome, my friend.

  • It's unique, it is a master pice!

I was 12,with my class on Disney land in Paris. I remember that I said to my teacher that I liked opera and she immediately said "You have to see The Phantom of the Opera!" And I like "Erh okay ... I will!" two months later, I and my aunt were in a videostore, rented movies. we had already picked out the movies, but suddenly it hit me when we were at the counter "I want to see The Phanom of the Opera" I saw it twice in a row that night. Then I was totally fixed!

  • have loved watching this after going to London last week to see Phantom for the first time there (saw it on tour here in Bristol several years ago)

    Thank you!!

  • You are most welcome, my friend.

  • thank you so much for uploading this!

  • You are most welcome, my friend.

  • I wish people wouldn't assume it is just women who like it though.

  • i deff agree cuz im a 16 yr old boy and i absolutely adore this show! the score is just amazing and i cant see how anything will ever amount to the success and class of this masterpiece! so no its not just for women its enjoyable for everyone

  • Wow, it's so rare to find guys who appreciate musical scores. I love Phantom, the music and the story are both absolutely beautiful. (I'm a 16yr old girl btw)

  • Yes well you know lol! ;) no its just phenomenal its like surreal that this music even exists lmao! and the story is amazing and the music is amazing and the sets are amazing and everythings fantastic haha!! i think more guys should stop being so worried people will think theyre gay if they like something that is a little more sensitive. but my names eric btw =)!!!

  • Ha, that's cool! Hi Eric. And I agree that guys should not hide their interests.

I've actually not seen the stage show (hopefully I'll see it next year in London) but I saw the film which introduced me to the Phantom world :) I know a lot of people don't like the film but I love it (maybe because I haven't seen the stage version so I have nothing to compare it to). Have you seen the stage show?

  • I love the film!!! lol idk why people aren't open to other interpretations of phantom, people annoy me. But yes I have seen the stage show, i saw it in new york last year and in hartford connecticut actually last week lol! so amazing. i would say that i like the stage version better but theyre both amazing!!!! You deff have to go see the show! Are you from the US? or UK?

  • I'm from the UK, I live about 80 miles from London and I used to live there for a few years. And thanks for the reccomendation!

  • That's awesome!!! I've never met anyone from the UK lol!!! actually i lied, someone from the london metropolitan university or something like that came to a college fair in the united states lol! so ur the 2nd haha. and no prob for the reccomendation!!! sl do you think you'll ever come to the states? like to study abroad lol?

  • Honduran- well there I just brightened your day! *feels proud of self* I'd love to visit the states, unfortunately money is kind of an issue! One day...and I actually have my heart set on Cambridge University (high hopes I know!) Which state do you live in?

  • ahhh Cambridge! inspired choice hahaaha! and yes u did brigten my day lol! and believe me money is an absolute issue with everyone including me!!! But ya know, the states is nothing special. and i live in Connecticut. I really hate it in conn. lol but oh well what can ya do? What field do you want to go into?

  • English Lit, probably, though if I like Psychology (I'm starting it next year) I may do that instead, who knows? Either way I'm looking forward to it. And Cambridge as a city is soooo nice, the student culture is cool and there's so much to do! I would love to live there!

  • That awesome! Well good luck with getting in, sometimes schools like that will give a full ride to students if their grades are good enough! =) I want to be a Spanish teacher lol! So I think im going to a school around my home, its called Quinnipiac University. It's a phenomenal university, one of the best in the northern united states so hopefully i can get in lol. its $42,000 dollars a year though so ill have to see

  • Thank you! I still have a couple of years to do my A Levels (I don't know what you call them in the states but they're Advanced Levels). A Spanish teacher! I love the Spanish language but I'm really not good at it (I find German so much easier since my mum is German!) I'm considering teaching too actually, even though it must be pretty hard. But $42,000 dollars! :O Cambridge is like £3000 a year in tuition fees (though you have to pay for living costs too)! Well anyway, best of luck to you!

  • I'm the only boy, to my knowledge, in my school that has actualy seen and enjoyed Phantom of the Opera

  • FilmRangers- goon on ya! ;) Phantom of the Opera is amazing! (I really should stop commenting so much on here. I'm probably annoying the other youtube watchers. Sorry)

  • wow, thats so weird filmrangers, i have the same problem, no one else in my school fully understands its awesomeness like i do

  • awesome

  • Thank you so much for these uploads. It was a sad end with Steve Barton, that's probably why they didn't dwell on him. The Vegas production is FANTASTIC too! They cut the libretto some and a few scenes, but there are some really cool surprises in it. I saw MC opening week in LA and many times since. Best B'dwy show ever and still brings me to tears.

  • You are most welcome.

  • Brilliant! Bravo!! I owe the Phantom a great deal. I was 12 years old when my teacher loaned me a copy of Phantom and that opened the doors to my love of classical music, and now I am something of a musical scholar particularly in the baroque works. VIVE LE PHANTOM!!

  • Congratulations on your great success!

  • Where was Steve Barton? He was probably the best Raoul in the show. But this was a great documentary! But sure Mr Lloyd Webber can't write another one, that's why Phantom:Love Never Die is premiering in the fall. (I was being sarcastic.)

  • Steve Barton died on July 21st, 2001...

  • I know, but they didn't even mention him, that's what I meant. They mentioned everyone but him. Raoul is an important part of the show too!

  • oooh, haha, yeah, i agree. they showed pictures of him...where was the mention of him?

  • Maybe since this was about all the 'famous' people they decided to leave him out? Or maybe they just hate the character Raoul because they only mention him like once or twice.

  • Great documentary! I love Michael and Steve and they should have been in the film! I got to see Michael in Phantom and he deserved every award and bit of praise he got. Any guy that can be as self effacing as Mike deserves a little respect( as does the rest of the creative team ). Erna Dias (the dresser)was right...Michael Crawford is just plain sexy!

  • Not a word about Steve Barton's Raoul and his talent. Did they just forget that he was huge part of the show's success? God, it is just unfair...

  • andrew loydd webber, "i'd write another one, but i can't and i haven't" when he said that he was already writing the sequel to it, but then again probably said that so he didn't give it away.

  • Howard Kissel (the critic) is completely delusional

  • AMEN! he's an ass!
