  • Richie Sambora neck of Ovation Triple neck acoustic was copied from this guitar of John Paul Jones

  • Can you say "loopstation?"

  • a true musician. i dream of finding a bass player like this to team with. bb

  • as a musician he might be better than Page but what the fuck is wrong whit you guys, Page is better than JPJ on guitar and ofcourse its because hes blessed by god and its his main instrument. JPJ is the greatest bass player while Pagey is the greatest guitar player.

  • this is awesome but he wasn't better then page and are you kidding me. page let everyone have a turn in the spotlight. but I seen page do stuff similar in live vids he just used a single neck which i think is more awe inspiring because he had less too work with. but you know that last bit is just my opinion

  • @greattools What are you talking about? JPJ's incredible skills are on display throughout Zeppelin's discography. It's not like Page was stifling him. JPJ just isn't as flashy as Page. While JPJ was playing everything under the sun, Page was focused on pushing the limits of one instrument. I think it worked out well for everybody.

  • idiots you all

  • HE CAN PLAY GUITAR BETTER THAN PAGE!

OMG he is most amazing thing this world is ever going to see.

  • JPJ is an absolute beast. Bass, keyboard, triple-neck guitar... you name the instrument, and he can play it.

  • yea i heard they are making a new one when hes about to die,so they can say he didn't play all the insturments in the world xD

  • its called looping :)

  • Holy shit balls.

  • this is terrible?? real?

  • They were four front men.

  • JPJ is one of the greatest musicians of our time. Working along side many musicians, from Paul McCartny too REM and Foo Fighters. I once told a man that it was not a orchestra in Kashmir, it was just him on keyboard. He was at AWE. A genius and should be recognized.

  • acutally that is the guitar in a DADGAD tuning that makes what sounds like and orchestra jpj was playing the melotron on kashmir

  • Whole Lotta Delay

  • John Paul Jones = The Father of Bass guitar.

Jimmy Page = The Father of electric and acoustic guitar.

Robert Plant = The Father of the vocals.

John Bonham = The Father of the drums.

  • they arnt the father But they sure as shit did it the best

Its bloody weird how he plays that thing aint it

  • Er.... no.

    OneBigRetard = lord of cocks.

OneBigRetard = lord of the faggots.

OneBigRetard = lord of the idiots.

OneBigRetard = lord of the male assholes.

    You fuckin idiot.

  • 'The father of the bass guitar'

    'The father of drums'

You little fucking turd. Big posters and a hero worship problem. Led Zep do some things really well and are a great band with an important place in history. But they ain't THAT great. You are just an ignorant fucktard with clearly too little exposure and maturity to realise.

I will leave you to your hero worship 'Hetfield is god' existence.

  • "OneBigRetard"

You're acting like you know something and you have a name like that?

    One...big...retard.

  • Yeah amazing isn't it.

  • What's the biggest rock band to you?

  • Biggest?

    ~In terms of what?

Led Zeppelin are probably the biggest 'rock' band of all time. But then I need to be sure what you mean by 'big' and what you mean by 'rock'.

  • So if I tell you to "fuck off", I'll have to explain you what I mean by "fuck" and what I mean by "off".

  • No fuck knuckle.

Are The Beatles a rock band? Or are they a pop band? Are the Stones? These are pretty big bands that affects the answer.

Biggest? What in terms of mass? Or perhaps, influence, or sales or hair.

Ask a sensible question and I shall endeavour to provide a sensible answer.

I wasn't taking the piss, merely trying to understand what the fuck you meant so I could try and answer in 500 characters or less.

  • Alright then. But this is the last time I speak to you. The Led Zeppelin are the best fuckin blues-inspired hard rock band of all time, period. Bye bye.

  • JPJ was very, very underrated. He played an array of stringed instruments, keys, bass. he would play keys while stepping on bass pedals. The guy is talented as shit. And yes, that's him in this video.

  • yeah, in a strange way, he's the most talented musically in Zeppelin. the other three were masters of only one instrument. It's always the quiet one who you have to look out for. Zeppelin would have had to bring in other musicians to get what they wanted without Jonesy on board to handle the other instruments which kept them a true contained band unto themselves.

  • im pretty sure this is a fail

  • A way better performer and all round than Page. Page was often awful live.

  • But Page, like Jonesy, was a session ace in England. Just read Hammer of the Gods...

  • There are much better Zep bios than Hammer of the gods. Theres a new one out recently that I would recommend called"when giants walked the earth",or something like that. jpj is where its at

  • i wish he didnt cut all that hair off haha he is a genius

  • JPJ = genius! I love this man.

  • I wonder if thats the same triple neck he used with Zeppelin..

  • yeah he used it for ten years gone at kenebworth festival.

I can't remember how to spell the festival name.

  • All of Led Zeppelin were briliant musicians JPJ did not get much credit at times but true ZEP fans new how talented he was...the four together were Led Zeppelin the greatest ROCK band of the 20th century...

  • is this an actual song or is it just improv?

  • See now John Paul Jones was the best member of Led Zeppelin because he could play every instrument there is. and hes GOOD at them, hes a master of them all. I like Jimmy's riff's and everything, but Im also multi-instrumental so I enjoy watching Jones play the many instruments he plays.

  • all of them were the best members of zeppelin, without each of them perhaps zeppelin would have been horribly different...

  • Led Zeppelin was perfect the way they were. Even at the Reunion show in London, John Bonhams son, Jason, wasn't even as good as his father was, and to tell you the truth it will never be the same without bonzo...

  • no mamen q es eso c ve el de la camara reflejado en la tele

  • Excellent musician who contributed to the Zeppelin sound

  • man the more i watch jpj the of a genius i think he is!

  • always love jpj's mandolin skills ive always wanted to play mandolin like that

  • Page can't play keyboards. No reason to with Jonesy in the band. Jones is a good arranger too. Talented cat.

  • Actually, Page played some keyboard on the Page and Plant album "Walking Into Clarksdale." But no, he isn't a master at it.

  • ciao

  • Page was better at guitar, but Jones was easily a better musician overall.

  • yes

  • Not really in my opinion JPJ did right some of the good riffs but rly i think its fair to say... Led Zeppelin as a whole were the greatests songwriters... The only thing also that JPJ can play that page cant is the keyboard i think... but idk correct me if im wrong.

  • Depends what you mean by 'keyboards'- he could play keys, mellotron and synths and he was a session arranger. Also dabbles in Japanese and Indian instruments.

  • john paul jones was a better musician than page, but page's riffs were better, page's were chunkier ex:whole lotta love and rock and roll while jones were long and had chromatic movement.

ex: in the light and black dog

  • I wish all his solo songs sounded like that and not stuff like..."Angry Angry"... This sounded great!

  • Angry Angry is the best and worst song ever! It's so bad its fantastic, The first time I listened to it I was in fits of laughter!

    JOHN PAUL JONES OWNS!

  • this is the most ghetto shit ever haha but suprisingly doesnt sound that bad

  • jpj rocks harder than page

  • they are about the same dude.

  • I think I'm probbably wrong, but is the top one a mandolin, and then the other 2 are just an acoustic versions of Page's famous doubleneck, i.e the middle is a twelve string and the bottom is a six string?

  • No, you're right.

  • That looks hard to play

  • If you notice he keeps looking at the floor, he delay pedals set up to repeat, and then he plays another neck and something different over the top.

  • A real genius and the source of Zeppelin's greatness in the second half of the band's career.

  • JPJ>MURDERFACE

  • WHy is there music when he ain't playing? : o

  • he's looping it

  • wow and i thoughtjimmy was good

  • this is the sickest thing i have ever seen

  • i reckon page was def the lead of the band sandprof, but yeah they were all immensely talented.

  • JPJ is a rockin' genius !!!!!!!!!!

  • Jonesy is an underrated genious :)

  • freakin' awesome!

  • See, if Zeppelin regrouped one more time they could use a few of Jones's compilations like this as their new folk songs.

  • what is it with bass players and the fact that they are usually the most talented musicians in the band?? and the fact that they play like a bazillion different instruments??

    i wish i was a bass player....

  • JPJ is just a genius!!!!!!!

  • He is one of the most over-looked musicians in rock and if Bonzo was the led in the band -Jonsey was the Zep or the plin. If I could be anybody in rock history I would be he as you could have all the larks, play loads of instruments and nobody would know who you were

  • what about page and plant?

  • john paul jones was the most talented musician from zeppelin because of his ability to play so many different instruments and rock them completely , im not taking any credit away from john Bonham and jimmy page of course

  • I think hes compensating for something

  • Yeah, he's compensating for the lack of four other musicans to replace his amazing talent, you fuck.

  • i preview the zooma cd on amazon and it sucked

  • mana244, you suck ass cheese...

  • JPJ kicks ass! but in a quiet, nice respectable kind of way- camera time? not so much, but you never needed to see him to know he was there- - and he has great dimples

  • why do people have to compare all the time. it's not a contest

  • yep

  • Yeah, it's like arguing which part of the car is the best: the engine or the brakes.

  • 6 string guitar, 12 string guitar, & mandolin

  • John Paul Jones is the only guy who could play next to Jimmy Page - a totally underrated bassist, guitarist, mandolin player and keyboardist. He was the perfect man for Led Zeppelin.

  • i agree with your comment 100%, you know your stuff!!

  • Thanks, moecreek70! I've been a Zep fanatic since the first album came out, when I was 11 years old. I've played drums since that age, and Bonzo is my favorite drummer of all time. When I play, you can really hear the influence. I have a solo that you might want to hear!

  • his comment on the 90's P&P Unledded tour was cool,

something about how many musicians were needed to

replace him :>):>) (and I totally love Robert and

Jimmy but, spot on, JPJ !) Reunion? Well, let's wait and

    see what transpires...

  • Ha! That's funny! Yep, it takes more than one musician to replace Jonesy! Oh yeah, about the reunion, I've heard lots about it. In fact, go to the Led Zep site and there's an announcement a Zep concert taking place in London on December 10, 2007. It was supposed to be on November 26th, but it was postponed because Page fractured a finger. Check it out.

  • i knew he could play alot more than bass and keyboards but this would blow my amp (not rlly but u get it)

  • Nice.

  • Sorry for my english...He once plays with the same instrument in a concert, the song was The Battle Of Evermore, I'm not surprised, he is the most talent musician of all times, he played a million of instruments

  • Yeah, on their last tour in '77 he played Fender and

Alembic basses, piano, Fender Rhodes, Hammond

organ, mandolin and acoustic guitar - this was live,

exciting stuff, especially his acoustic piano solo in

    the song "No Quarter"...

  • Yea Jones was probably the most musically talented...

  • lol, a triple neck bass?!!?!?!?? insane shit right there!!!!!!!1

  • Its an Acoustic with a 12 string, 6 string, and an 8 string mandolin

  • i think u dunno shit...led is not the stones...theyr not gonna come back with bonzos son...if u knew anything about them u would know that for them bonzo was ireplaceable, thats why they didn't just get another guy on drums and continue singing...led started with page plant bonham and jones...it ended that way...there will be no come back...i know its sad...i love them...but thats life, good things pass.oh btw...JPJ will never be better than page...

  • page is my hero, dont get me wrong, ive idolised him since i was six...but weve never seen what jonesy can do on a guitar have we.

  • If I'm not mistaken, you did just see what jonesy can do on a guitar...

  • what performance? for 3:33? i can hardly say that shows everything jonesy is capable of

  • bonzo was irreplaceable end of story but there's only one person in the world that can come close to him, his son jason bonham so dude he is irreplaceable period but jason is the only person alive that can come close to him so they're gonna use him

  • jason ain't that good.just coz he's johns son don't mean he's brilliant!

  • I believe that they are prepared to play with Jason because that is more respectful to JBs memory than bringing in another drummer, not because Jason is neccesarily the best replacement, musically. BTW, you don't have to write 'period', you can just use a dot, look > .

    ;-)

  • JPJ isn't as sloppy as Jimmy but he isn't such a genius songwriter and riffmaker as Jimmy.

  • True: but aren't you glad he wrote "Carouselambra"?

  • His bass playing is superb in that song!

  • you must feel stupid now that theyre playing a concert in november with Bonhams son.

  • yah he was the best just because he was so humble and didn't really want the fame at all. He was actually going to quit in the middle of zeppelin. Not to mention the fact that he can play just about any instrument and kick ass at it too. It shows how humble and awesome he is when at the hall of fame he said "and thanks to my friends for finally remembering my phone number".

  • i wouldnt be surprised if Jonesy was an equal to page on the guitar. but in his humbleness stayed out of the spotlight and played bass in piano. without a doubt the most talented member of Led Zeppelin.

  • And the most underrated.

  • wow

  • JPJ still make some shows and Robert and Jimmy to...Why the fuck he don't join them?

  • Because Page and Plant are both dicks...

JPJ knows that the LZ songs they would play if he joined them, would be for the sake of money. They would not rearrange songs or reinvent them for artistic purposes.

He would much rather work with other artists where he gets to be more of an artist and less of a money whore.

  • Seriously, if there was a true musician in LZ, it was JPJ. Unlike the other 2 instrumentalists, he actually played CLEAN and ACCURATE

And unlike the others, he is not a party animal.

A true artist...and a better GUITAR player than Led Zeppelin's.

He still makes worthy artistic statements today.

  • AAAhhh you two are fucking crazy you should suck each other dick you dumb ass! Led Zeppelin will come back with the son of John Bonham next year

  • I did not know that. Sorry...

But...I'm pretty sure it's going to be one of those nostalgia tours where they play only their greatest hits.

Then they're gonna overcharge tickets and do only 1 hour shows.

Sort of like the sub-par Cream reunions that happened a couple of years ago.

Nostalgia...nothing else (and perhaps cash...and a potshot at getting back in the spotlight)

  • JPJ, in his blessed, humble and artistic mind, knows that this is going to be one of those highly anticipated "old band" reunions where _really_ old fans and really young fans get to see Led Zep do some classics, and that this tour is so that they can pocket some cash and some new Rolling Stone interviews.

Led Zep is great though. The tour is just Pagey feebly trying to retain his "Man in Black" status...and Plant showing everyone that he's gotten over hating Stairway.

  • True. Lets hope if they... wait. Proskatershawn, that is a really cool thing. Maybe they'll somewhat get across playing Zep classics with Jason Bonham and influence some of these new no-talented artists of today. \: )

  • Well if they decided to do a tour with Jason Bonham...well we can't ask more...cause Bonzo is dead...so that's the better thing we can have.

It would so fucking crazy if they decide to make a tour...Led Zeppelin would come back!

  • JPJ was the real pro in Zep who did a great deal in the studio especially arranging

  • he plaid the bass and the keyboard live at the same time. Thats real talent the diversity of instruments he could play he is just amazing. Better than page in every single way excpet maybe showmanship

  • do you know jack bruce?

  • JPJ's a god!

  • witness the most underrated musician of the 70's

who needs recognition as much as i do as most hetherto guitar maystro hahahahahahaha

no apart frm jokes i feel srry for him alot he is the soul of zeppelin

  • jpj heart and soul of zeppelin page is decent but jpj takes the cake

  • Gotta hand it to Page, though. Remember, he also produced Zeppelin's albums, and was smart enough to prominently feature JPJ's heavy basslines.

  • o i know is so underrated because i my opinion he is just as talented as page if not more

  • JPJ is underrated as hell when it comes to both his Zep and solo work. No one really understands how good of a musician he really is.

  • Real revelation to those of us who didn't know what a guitar player he is. Man. Makes me look at Pagey in a different light now.

  • JPJ is one of the most underated musicians ever, Zep is my fav band, and he really doesnt get much camera time, it is a shame, he really is amazing, and i think his singing is adorable as well ! JPJ LOVE YOU!!!

  • john paul jones is my fav zep. not disclosen no names but he got no cam time, it sucks cause he is so cool.

  • he is probably the most talented musician for 100 years

  • koto*

  • In Led Zeppelin, John Paul Jones played bass & organ/keyboard - 'Stairway To Heaven': John Paul Jones plays a three over-dubbed recorder. He also plays the guitar, mandolin, ukulele, autoharp, lap steel guitars, kto, and cello.

  • Also, many people forget that he is probably the best Mellotron player of all time. (the Mellotron is an organ/synthesizer crossbreed using 8 second! tape loops on 70 tape head cartridges)

  • And had digital synths existed during Zepp's heyday, he would have been a pioneer on those as well.

  • Beautiful

  • why people still thinking that pastorius is the best bass player?

  • different opinions, billy sheehan is more technical, larry graham has more groove, john paul jones better at rhythmic element. its all a matter of opinion

  • He can if he wanted thats for sure.

  • he doesnt drum does he?

  • I don't think he is a "drummer" but yeah he plays all major instruments and I know he played percussion instruments in led zepplin

  • are there any major instruments he doesn't play?

  • very cool, 2 bad it's not better quality
