when the norman william the conquerer came over to claim the english throne, he and his court spoke french. it became the official language of the court simply because it was what the new rulers spoke. they had to teach english to their children like people learn french or spanish in high school today.
i uploaded a burst clip from ep one, i'm working on making a few 5 minute segments, the hard part is finding the bits that are self-contained i.e. cover their topic without blending into the next bit.
Hearing recreations of ancient english language makes much more sense than seeing it written down.
