The 80s was a great time for radio in dublin and a lot of people were put out of work when on the 31/12/1988 ALL Pirate had to shut down at 8 pm it was a sad time in the city Q 102 sunshine and a few garden shed ones closed down in order yo get put a tender to the irtc but not one got one the first one went belly up and was so nice to see it robby that ownd sunshine new how to along with staff run a good station but were TOLD no by the big cats of the day sunshine R I P
I got sunshine on MW539metres at Accrington,Lancashire and the reception and signal was pretty good! It may have targeted an area to the north of Dublin but I certainly got it.
sunshine radio's main transmitter operated on 101.5fm and it must of ran a lot of power cos i used to receive the fm signal in bolton some 130 miles away:) boomed in !
I loved Sunshine radio, 101 was the frequency, wasnt it? I remember the big cahoona compitition back then. I went on to present a successful love song show on radio Dublin in 1995 to 97,, I was late coming in, but proud to have being a part of it, and will do it again. Thank you for posting this.
