quite simply the greatest...this is the man that made me fall in love with the written word. his love letters to zelda in the sanitarium alone are the purest of poetry. whatever fatal flaws the man possessed personally, he had the touch of greatness and a lyrical ability to take on universal truths in a totally original way. what a consequential life!
I hate the fact Ernest Hemmingway was so obscene to Scott. The ass after everything Scott did for him. Ernest work was still very young and Scott liked his work enough to be his editor, and give him notes.
@masan155 Tell me about it! Hemmingway was always jealous of Scott. It’s shame that Hemmingway was so insecure about himself because his work IS good. Not as good as Fitzgerald's in my opinion, and not as good as Hemmingway boasted about his own work in public, (contrary to how he felt in private), but still satisfactory.
@SteauaBucuresti Well, of course, anything literary fiction is subjective, and while I do admit Hemmingway’s work is good, I just personally don’t think he is the literary genius that history has recorded him as. I prefer Fitzgerald’s work over Hemmingway’s, even though Fitzgerald hasn't been given the same recognition or praise as Hemmingway has by a large margin. However, that’s just my opinion, but thank you for sharing yours! ^_^
@Usagi393 I agree. I think Hemingway is terribly overrated, especially compared to Fitzgerald. I mean, Hemingway's novels are nothing but a few run-on sentences with a love interest that comes off as crazy and unbalanced... Which is clearly Hemingway's view on women.
@snowtoology Haha, true, true, that is a very EXCELLENT way to sum up the majority of Hemmingway’s work! ^_^ Given the time period of both men, and the submissive role of women and the trivializing attitude presented towards them, it’s no wonder that some women did become mentally unbalanced. If you have ever read “The Yellow Wallpaper,” this point is demonstrated brilliantly in a more psychological view of the causes and consequences of mental health than the brush off Hemmingway gave women.
@biancus101 I don't even understand your statement. How can you find not only the works, but the LIFE of the Fitzgeralds to be boring? They were one of the wildest couples to have existed.
It's too bad that at the time of his death--he didn't realize how important a writer he would become. I know for me, as an aspiring author, his influence rings through almost every scene I write. Thank you for posting this.

In my opinion, Fitzgerald can be compared even to authors such as Evelyn Waugh and P.G. Wodehouse!
