this is what a Rock Legend does in concert. Anyone else who has sang this just cannot put this much of the rock edge and feeling into it. And I LOVE Roy and his sweet voice. @SMMHonda1 you're making a fool of yourself...the song was written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly - they were a successful writing duo in the 80s - not the 60s. They also wrote True Colors for Cyndi and alot of other songs that appear on the same album as I Drove All Night. They also wrote for other big 80s acts like Madonna, the Bangles and Heart. Although Roy did do a demo of this before Cyndi, it wasn't mixed and released until after he died.

He did a pretty damn good job of making it his own, as well, on the posthumously-released King of Hearts album, from 1992. One of the great songs of the Rock Era, IMO.
