it should not really explain the reason why they did that is so YOU can make the monster your own thought. But I DO KNOW that the monster is an alien and he was clearly shown falling from the sky at the end of cloverfield. I do think that the idea of a solider picking up the camera would be good either that or an actual solider is sent to film the creature so that way he can send info to washington or something OR they should make it where its the same night new people

@THEREPTILE666 Actually, the thing falling into the water at the end is a satellite owned by a fictional Japanese drilling company named "Tagruato". Tagruato were the ones who actually woke up the monster by drilling near it's resting place, causing it to wake up and destroy the drilling/oil rig. Search on youtuve "cloverfield oil rig" to see the video of it (it was apart of the viral)

theory: in the first cloverfield... national guard and army forces mobilized pretty effing quick for somethhing that was believed to be an earthquake. Maybe they tracked the 'comet' from satellite photos and put out for a massive strike force. i.e. they knew it was coming.

if people really want hand held they could do it through the eyes of some military film person, it could have a more professional feel that way.

I heard J.J Abrams is going to make a Cloverfield 2, but it will be in a DIFFERENT place and have a DIFFERENT monster. That makes me think that the sequel is going to suck. But hopefully, he'll stick to the script and keep Clover. Anyways, that's my thoughts. :P

I don't know HOW JJ or Matt plan to do that without the monster and handycam (if they do it at all), but I'm sure they would make it work, somehow.
