The advantage of T-54/T-55 tanks is not only cost, small size, ease of operation but ease of upgradability :D The Type 59 is a good example, inspite of the fact T-54/T-55 tanks today are somewhat no match for modern MBT's but still a good challenge if upgraded and in the right hands :)

@segregator236 Peru will replace their t55 with a new model of chinesse tank called VT1A, MBT 2000 was rejected because ucranians deny to supply their motors, we made a deal with ucranians to supply the motors and now China offer the VT1A that is better than MBT2000...with the new ucranian motors of course.

An unmodified Type 59 is basically a T-54A without the IR searchlight so no they are not better than T-55s. ;)
