Was anyone else disappointed by Wahlberg's performance? I thought it was dry and uninspired, to be honest. Notice how the reviewers don't even mention him either. They must've thought it was a forgettable performance, too.

awesome awesome awesome, Bale, Wahlberg, Adams, Leo and every fucking cast members are all top class, truly amazing, Wahlberg should of been nominated for best actor, Bale should of got nominated for American Psycho but didn't, He will win this year and it has been long overdue, one of the best actors of his generation, American Psycho for life, my favourite movie. The fighter is up there too.

Hands down my favorite movie of 2010.

I know people will debate, (and I have with my own mind) but out of all the excellent films of the year...I felt more connection with these characters than any other movie. I laughed with them, I cried with them, I felt their pain and their triumph...and no other film this year made me see the movie 3 more times simply because the performances.

(mix that with clever directing, EXCELLENT soundtrack and score...and a perfect atmosphere, its a 9/10 for me).

I didn't know know won was going to win either. I usually hate sports movies but this movie had me in tiers that last round. 10/10 #3 for the year. I just realized that 2010 was a great year for movies.

First of all, loved "The Fighter" and saw it twice in theaters. I thought it was definitely worth the money unlike most movies nowadays and as much as I don't like his style and very dry, predictable sense of humor, Ben did hit the part about "It was about more of a brother/family thing than a sports movie" right on the head. I felt the same way. It was an eye-opening film and very well made. This was a good review, also.

Micky Ward winning the WBU title isn't really a big payoff though. It's one of the lesser known titles in boxing. It's a "stepping stone" title, which is what Micky Ward was labeled for most of his career. The best part of the movie isn't Micky winning the title, but Micky getting his family back together. And it was great that he got his good payday for his incredible trilogy with Arturo Gatti.

the problem with bens analaysis of boxing is that his views are coming from movies like raging bull, rocky, and most recently the fighter. If he watched elite level fighters like floyd mayweather, pernell whitaker, bernard hopkins, etc. i think that he would understand not all boxers only contain the art of agression (like mickey ward) but that boxing at an elite level is more about defense and that violence plays a much smaller role in the sport then most people think.

Boxing is as violent as it gets. It's all the things you say, but it is also a brutal, brutal sport. Those are just facts. Flloyd Mayweather, Bernard Hokins, etc. do not represent the average boxer.

At the end of the day, it's a sport about people getting hit in the face, mostly; since in it, unlike in MMA, you can't choke or submit the other guy.

Insead of the fight being stopped you get 8-counts, and you have more breaks, allowing you to go longer, etc.
