The only change Lucas would have made is Darth Vader screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...!!!! When Obi-Wan became one with the Force!
Interesting to see Vader and Obi fight a little faster. More intense. I understand why the music is added and over all think it fits. I get the reason for adding it to complete the scope of the overall 6 films
@DaddyO1701 yes, thanks...why would they act all "old" here and darth vader beef ut the battle between him and Luke later on..this seems more normal for 2 Jedies/sith
@MrGanamae i really dont think this music fits the rest of the film, it just kinda stands out, and breaks the mood. a different score would be great though. also unless youre an alternate account for addywan stop taking credit for other peoples work. he put ALOT of time and effort into these edits
@ReuWil no I know, Battle of the Heroes. it just seems far too epic for a battle between a "weak" old man and a man who is half machine. It's definitely the least exciting saber duel in all the films and the music should not try to hype it up
@30inception Well, the person who remixed this had to use the orignal track (unlikely he's a composer, and even if he was...no access to high scale recording studio)...probably ideal would have been a remixed / altered version of this track - I do like it as it provides a connection to the other battle between the two and this is their true final battle.
Don't be hypocrites. If this was on the new Blu Ray, you would al be bashing Lucas for "killing a classic scene" Like changes or do not. There's no middle point.
@TrapnestShinigami some things just fits better than other things, I am sure more ppl would be happy if Lucas released the original films instead of making the special editions now the originals, what we have now in Lucas own fan edit of star wars and not the version that won a few Oscars statuettes.
Lucas could have done soo much better with all the money and man power he has, this is from the mind of 1 person, with not much money but with a lot of imagination and willpower.
But hate, is not the way to go. None of us would even be here if it wasn't because of him. It is fine to like or not like new changes by him (or anyone), but I don't understand when I trully sense hate from some "fans".
@TrapnestShinigami We don't hate Lucas, we adore him, but many fans would love to see the original movies..the Oscar winning movies out on BLU or dvd, they deserve that..the SE could be sold seperate or apackage deal...then lots of fans would be overjoyed :)
Now the SE are the originals for some reason, thats a bit wrong...I guess if he respects the fans they will respects him in return :)
But I'd wait a little. The 3D Theatrical re-releases are comming, and I'm sure they'll end up selling the original unaltered versions on Blu Ray as they did on DVD a few years back. It's only a matter of time. So I'd tell REAL fans of the original edit: Be patient. It won't be long before those movies make it to a Blu Ray Release (:
@TrapnestShinigami Oh trust me, I know about those "fans". Especially when it comes to the EU. I don't know about you, but I'm more of a Film+EU fan because the EU remains to this day largely untouched by Lucas's filthy hands. I also prefer the novels of the Prequels due to their better description of the stories as well as character development.
@TrapnestShinigami Lucas said that the originals won't come on blu ray because they are not restored so they quality of these old films isn't good enough for HD.
He also said that the 1997 Special Editions were the Ultimate final cut for IV, V and VI.
I never take anythng 100% sure when it's about Lucas and Star Wars. Actually you could just re-edit the newer version and you would get the originals. Swap some audio tracks and there you go. You don't need to go back to the original tape to get the original edit.
@TrapnestShinigami Yes, you could do that, but you would have to use upscaled SD content fopr the scenes that where not restored fpr the special edition, which never looks as good as real HD content and most people don't like a blu ray movie which doesn't have blu ray quality in every scene.
@rfvtgbzhn yeah but they are not the originals, there was a double dvd release on dvd a few years ago but that set included a copy of a laserdisc and the quality was not that good. I say why not clean up the originals and add them to a blu ray release....same way they did with blade runner..included all releases + the original one
imo, the episode 3 music shouldn't come in until the end of the fight, maybe around 1:46. but other than that little nitpick, it was great. I like how u sped it up.
At 0:09, the only problem I have which is a minor one, is that Vader's lightsaber sound is the same as Obi-Wan's when it could've had the same sound as Empire and Jedi when activated. Other than that, I couldn't take my eyes off this re-edit for a second. Looking forward to Empire, Jedi, and the Prequels.
This was great! but you need to clean up a bit on the imperial march track and the battle of heroes one it sounds very choppy in some points and some of the battle of heroes track doesn't fit right with the scenes with luke han and leia but overall great idea making the scene more intense with emotion and adding continuity:)
Don't get why some people complain about the music being added in. I think it is awesome and it makes the fight more entertaining to watch. It also fits perfectly from start to finish.
The music doesn't too well with this scene (add another track instead of that one), but I absolutely like Andywan's work, it's hard to believe there are 20 idiots who missed the like button...
I enjoyed this much better. Better lightsabers, a little faster fighting. Music is a good idea to, but not from episode 3. I don't understand y they don't improve the lightsabers like this. Good job!
For such a while I've only known about the version from TheDeadlockBuzz. I must've accidentally mistook his re-do for a complete revisit of his own. I feel real silly now.
I actually liked the original with no music and the original killing blow because this one looks like a balloon is deflating or something... overall though, I really enjoyed watching this movie again for the first time in years... much appreciate all the hard work that must have went into this re-edit
I thought it was fantastic.. it was very much what the special editions 'should' have been
@MrGanamae the music just seems a bit too much.....In one way it makes this 'supposedly boring fight' seem faster and more intense... basically makes it seem like what it actually is....but the music is too attention getting and seems better suited to another scene with x-wings or something.... I personally never found this fight boring at all, for anyone who likes sword-play or martial arts its actually very technical... you can see their intelligence at work in every step, gesture and parry
I prefer the original version of the scene, with no music and, more important, the *original lightsaber sound effects*... which themselves had a musical quality. Really disappointed that they redid them in the SE.
Because a fanboy actually cares about his fellow fans, while a now money munching "film maker" only cares about making money while shitting on his die hard fans.
Some people like it, some don't... I believe this is a very risk change, but hey, know what? I like it! The pacing is good, the action made to look a bit more intense for 2 older people, and it indeed a 2nd Showdown for the both of them. Good stuff! The original is good too, but hey, after all of Lucas' changes and edits and damage he is doing especially with the Blu-Rays... Star Wars Revisited will definitely be my choice to watch over any other, blends all the good, none of the bad!
@Robotdrummerzzk I agree. The remixing of music of 20 something years later is a bit over zealous and destroys the director's intent. The absence of music was important to make an emotional contrast of Ben's death. I find some of these "enhacements" are very interesting, but it is apparent they are not skilled in the emotional significance of the story, Lucas' intent and music editing/selection. In my opinion the entire impact of the scene and what it means to the characters, is destroyed
I disagree- The pathos that the music adds is what I think they were going for, that despite the fact they are frail, and less capable the emotion in the duel is just as strong as it was on mustafar.
''directors intent'' funny how Lucas doesn't care about the directors intent himself or he would not re-edit EMPIRE or JEDI seeing he didn't direct them. if he can add a ''NOOO!!'' to Vader in Jedi or change the music to the movies climax. than this is completely fine as well.
that said i hear in a up coming HD version of this edit there will be a option to play this scene with or without music, when was Lucas that generous to his fans?
I dunno, I think this is a LITTLE too much. It's GOOD, but a touch too bombastic for this particular fight. I like how the fight itself has more added to it though.
sure, it is also music made in 2005 and may upset the mood of the 1977 version. however as i understand it this edit is to reflect to what a true special edition should have been. and remember Lucas himself added 90s music to the ending of JEDI, a 1983 movie. if that is okay then imagine if this was composed for this scene just like that bit was.
also it works better here IMO more than in EPIII were we have two 2 dimensional characters fight on a fake looking lava river.
@henkman00 Lucas is the creator of the story, he hired directors to get his vision across... his story, his intent.
and no, music in this scene is entirely wrong. Especially when the music isnt compatible with the rest of the score. a 30 year difference in interpretive melodics makes it a major contrast.
Take it from someone that knows film scoring, pace, continuity... it completely destroys the scene and it comes off as being too forced, its not natural.
Lucas is the writer of the story, but let other directors film the pictures. their intent is therefore senior.
its a sign of respect Lucas isn't capable off yet he has been very focal in the past about other peoples movies.
like i said the music works better here then in the original scene because of storyline importance. and characters. there is really a sense now that something big is going to happen. it adds tension.
