Photography - good photography - is a gift one is born with, not into: it's in the eye, there's an inner framing, a conceptual talent . You either have it, or you don't. Diana was a self-proclaimed freak - that is, an individualist, a loner of sorts. Diana knew this all too well. In an age that twitters, bleeps and buzzes, technology retards the very nature of our art, our freakishness.

I lived in one of the apartments that Diane lived in. She haunted me there. I moved to a little town in New Hampshire - Jackson and when I was putting my clothes away, there in a drawer was an invitation to a Diane Arbus photograhy exhibit under half a round glass ball. True story.
Yeah, suicide is awful. Two members of my family and a good friend (also a photographer) met the same sad fate. I've managed to keep myself away from the details leading to Diane's death because this illness hits too close to home. However, she was indeed something special. Truly a shame that a person's mental struggle can lead to something so tragic.

Diane was my grandpa's cousin and I'm not proud of being related to her. She lived a life and could have anything she wanted and let it all go to waste! She was so depressed that she killed herself and I believe that comitting suicide is a sin. I don't really know if that's true in Judaism but that's what I believe.
Your comment is very insensitive. Specially for people who admire and appreciate her great legacy to the art and to the mankind. Far from a waste or a sinner, she is a light of truth. I would be proud if I were you!
She dared to look where others wouldn't go, and you know, you are the way you are.
I understand what she had to do. I couldn't have an ordinary but good life, I need art in my life, inspiration and creativity.
Some people just aren't built to live like all the others do.
I admire what she did and who she are and the fact she was depressed... Well, that belongs to being an artist, really I don't know any real artist who's not depressed in SOME way.
