EARLY makers of dota(Eul, pendragon?) worked on HoN and LoL(they NEVER let me repeat, NEVER worked on DOTA2), while the current developer of Dota1 (ICEFROG) who did not agree to work on HoN or LoL was still working on improving and balancing dota1. valve then later filed a copyright to use the "Dota2" title and hired ICEFROG(developer of dota1) and the rest is history.

no u dont get my point, i mean the way the characters look, the texture, the way they are designed, the characters in dota 2 have a jimmy neutron like texture, real smooth and stuff, like LoL.

HoN on the other hand had a much grimmer feel to it altogheter, take devourer for instance, its the hon version of pudge, he is far more bloodied and fucked up looking then the pudge, this pudge even wears pants!

im just saying the way the heroes look is a more cartoonish way...

HoN fucked up badly with their graphics they tried far too hard, and the end result was garbage. Dota isn't a game where the graphics are over the top, the game is very, very heavily focused on gameplay, and the crisp texture/cleanliness is perfect for the game that Dota is.

@chainsawmonk HoN is garbage compared to dota, and when dota 2 comes there is no reason to be playing any crap game like HoN/LoL, one of the biggest reasons dota is good, is because its so well balanced, sure there are top tier heroes and stuff, but any hero that gets even a little too good can be assured of a nerf the next version and w/e. And now that dota 2 is coming, and has better graphics than LoL and HoN, and obviously far better gameplay, it will be amazing.

You either switch all the heroes the same, or just take the ideas, HoN didn't do that, and it ended up as a complete clusterfuck

Dota started off with x amount of heroes, and every version there were changes, to balance the game, and heroes were added slowly every now and then, and usually underwent massive changes to make them balanced. Now if you suddenly try to create a game, with plenty of new heroes, chances are its going to turn out shit, which HoN did to some degree, the trick is working with a small balanced pool, and working from there, had they done that, they would be ok

little known fact, hon was in development for 43 months, a LOT of time is spent on balancing aswell. Also hon gets updated about twice a week, which also involves balancing heroes.

When new heroes are released, they have been tested by beta testers, yet nearly every time there is a new hero, they are extremely broken and quite often get nerfed until they are garbage, or they stay imba, very few heroes actually become balanced heroes.

HoN may have had more "development time" than dota had, but dota has been played by the pubic....
