@superabdoulworld That's the whole point. Back then, cartoons weren't JUST for kids. things like that truly were family entertainment. As a child you could watch it and cackle at the seemingly innocent overtone of the scenes. the obvious stuff. Meanwhile your parents could be laughing at the innuendo and hidden jokes that the kids wouldn't get. once the kids are older, they come back and look at clips of their childhood [like you and me] and laugh hysterically at what you missed last time...

As a child, such characters, one chasing another are just fun to watch, Whereas those people who are older and more worldly-wise can appreciate WHY he's chasing her! LOL It's a form of titillation without the need to be vulgar or obvious to the point of being crude. Something which is sadly lost in a lot todays' humour. It's more shock value, now, than anything else. Back then, it was more subtle and worked on so many different levels.

While some of the shorts (Pinky & the Brain, Rita & Runt) were brilliant, most of them just fell into a rut (I mean, what made the writers think that punishing a heroic dog over and over was funny?).

In fact, a general rule of thumb was that the episodes that introduced a new character/gimmick were the best ones.

That's not to say that sketch shows don't work (look at The Carol Burnett Show & Robot Chicken) but they have to be written with care.

Repetitive jokes and one-sided humor do not (always) a comedy show make.

Pop-culture references/parodies worked for some series and random humor worked for others but it's the timing of these gags that ensured their shows' success, above all else.

In fact, I hope that the next series takes a long, hard look at its audience and takes the diversity of its members into consideration - brilliance like Loony Toons (starring Bugs Binny & Gadhafi Duck) isn't going to write itself. ^_^
