It's not so much the government response but the media response is to immediately whip up hysteria. They'd love a full grown pandemic to cover, and their panic mongering I think is irresponsible.
Well one of the signs of swine flu that should set the alarm bells ringing is that you grow a little curly tail. Hooves and a snout follow soon after, and if you're still not convinced if you find yourself rolling about in your own shit you've got a 95% chance of having it.....

normal flu has presumably been contracted by MORE people in the same time frame and nobody is uttering the word "pandemic"

I know what you're saying but I think it's all about a "potential" threat if it isn't contained.
I agree with BA it's the media response that is an over-reaction not the governments or medical profession.
