I am very disappointed in Congressman's Ackerman & Nadler to fork over $475,000 of our taxpayer's money to "improve and expand" the Italian American Museum in Little Italy. In my opinion, the money would be better spent on security at the Main Gate at Fort Totten which will be discontinued due to lack of fund's etc.
Not one cent of public money should go to spruce up the Italian American Museum (or any other museum) especially during these tough economic time's.
It is a shame the old civil war fort is off limits. BTW, the NYC Parks Dept has started to demolish the abandoned houses. I like to walk thru F.T now and then. Very few people know about this park. Let's keep it that way.
brings back memories... I had a lot of fun exploring these ruins as a kid. A flashlight is definitely necessary! There are also some nice old battlements and cannon ports, if you go all the way down to the water...
I was stationed there for 26 months in the late 80's, and I always thought some of those old structures were really cool back then... Just be careful, lots of asbestos in those old buildings.
my 773rd Trans unit's there now, 77th Infantry Division

I grew up there playing in the old fort often.
I sure hope they preserve it.

why can this be made into homeless shelters and/or low rent housing for the poor instead worry about money for security
