City Of The Living Dead is one of my favorite Fulci classic italian splatter epics, next to his widely known "Zombie" in 1979.City has a seething, gothic atmosphere that permeates every frame, very creepy stuff, the evil priest that leads the hordes of walking dead gave me the willies!
@UnknowSoldier87, actually the soundtrack is by Fabio Frizzi and not by Goblin. Frizzi also did the soundtrack for Fulci´s "Zombi 2" and "The Beyond" and some earlier movies like "Silver Saddle" and "Sette Note in Nero". Although those two soundtracks were in collaboration with Franco Bixio and Vince Tempera.
Please someone reply. I am 14 I love zombie movies I have seen Zombi 2 but I am worried about this film if I'll be to scared considering the zombies fly and have super strength
Who did the music for this one? Was it the same guy who scored Zombi 2? I'm curious cause the music in City of the Living Dead has lots of similarities. I can't quite describe it... there's moments in City of the Living Dead where I think there were two song ideas presented for each scene of Zombi 2 and all the ones that didn't make that film were used here.
Yes, Fuici's a stylist: much of it he got from Antonin Artaud's Theatre of Cruelty--perhaps that's why he magnifies the "trauma" of victims who're bigger stiffs than their zombie persecutors. However, Fulci's treatment of characters as simple sitting ducks for all sorts for gruesomely orchestrated deaths doesn't bring "realism" intot he equation at all. It's just sloppy characterisation. Romero and Argento deal in the fantastique: but they don't entirely reduce their protagonists to dummies.
Why is it in Lucio Fulci films the protagonists just stand there murmuring asthmatically while zombies advance at a snail-like pace towards them, or else stand there like dummies ineffectually waving their arms about as their mouths are stuffed full of flying maggots. The real implausibilities in these sort of films? Why they don't just run like fuck.
never seen this one but i own Zombi 2 and from this trailer the zombie effects look horrible the ones in zombi 2 are the best ive ever seen tho. isnt this movie also titled hell of the living dead?
@vansrok1 acutually hell of the living dead is a different movie that rips off Dawn of the dead in every way. it even steals the music and sceans from it.
@ROTLDzombi oh ha thanks man, all the italian zombie movies are way confusing in the way that they all have so many different titles and rip off other movies like zombi 2 and zombi (dawn of the dead)
@ROTLDzombi oh ha thanks man, all the italian zombie movies are way confusing in the way that they all have so many different titles and rip off other movies like zombi 2 and zombi (dawn of the dead)
The ending of City Of The Living Dead AKA The Gates of Hell, still is creepy and you have to figure out what actually happens. One of many of Lucio Fulci's best movies.
@kickiniitbak Its a fucking movie. If you want reality be an ambulance driver and go scrape dead bodies off the side of the ride. Fulci uses horror to tell stories its not about realism.
first off who said that cheesy special effects was a bad thing. and by ambulance driver you mean paramedic and also that would be a coroner who attends to dead bodies on the scene, not paramedic. so before you get all hyped up in your tree, understand what i'm trying to say first.
This is probably my favourite Fulci horror movie, nice to see the Italian trailer.I've heard this is getting a new DVD/Blu-ray release in the UK next year.

I agree I wish people make these kinds of films like they use to. This film has a rawness that films today don't have.

What you talking about, this is one dreadfull movie, mate. Utter bollocks.
I've just watched Diary of the Dead tonight, and even that was partially shite. Though the original Dawn of the Dead is fucking quality, andthe BEST Z movie ever!!
And when was the last intricate, amazing horror plotline you came across.. Come on, even the best horror films dont exactly have great plotlines, they are just bloody good entertainment. The more fucked up the better. Point 2, bad acting is part of the zombie genre, especially in the 70's an 80's.
Hmm, I'd say just about any film has that was not directed by Fulci or Argento would have a more coherent plot. Fulci and Argento had a knack of stringing some of the most freaky visual scenes together without rhyme or reason. The cruddy dialogue and the translation loss is probably to blame more than the actors' skills here. Don't ge me wrong, this stuff is great and I love it, but it does have a few shortcomings. BTW, anyone hear when they plan to debut "The Third Mother" in the States?
wow! i remember being so scared while and after watching this movie! my mother took me to the theater to see it around 1981 i was 6 yo...good memories, in us territories it was distributed as gates of hell

The music of this trailer is very similar to Dario Argento's "Dawn of the dead" main title (by Goblins)

I like Fulci, but the music in his films SUCKED.

Fulci could screw with your head, visually, but when it came to plotlines and acting, I really think he needed to stay off the crack..........
