  • this race was abandoned when 3 fans got killed by debris from an accident. it happened again in 2011 when dan wheldon died in a hard 15-car wreck in las vegas that race was also abandoned

  • Hey, I gotta ask this:

    Was Jack Arute still working for ABC at this time? Or was he working for both like what Ken Squier, among others, used to do?

  • @LMCMInterloper No, Jack Arute work in 1999 for FOX/FSN/Speedvision. After FOX sell all races back to ESPN/ABC in 2000, Jack Arute came back to ESPN/ABC.

  • @LMCMInterloper Arute wasn't with ABC in 1999 I believe. He was just with Fox Sports and Speedvision that year.
