the 5.0 uses a nearly bulletproof 4r70w 4spd auto. The explorers that have transmission problems are the first generations with the AOD and the 2nd and 3rd generations with the 5r55e/s/w 5spd auto. I own 3 explorers, one with the AOD, one with the 4r70w, and one with a 5r55w, and the 4r70w shifts way better then the other too, even with 154,000 miles.

Yah a four door v6 explorer wouldnt have gotten through but I have a two door explorer sport v6 SOHC so its wheelbase is shorter and its lighter and has a 2" lift so obviously that kinda hole isnt that big of a deal for me in four wheel drive and a v6...power was never my issue the a/t tires are but I still get through those kinda holes ok.
