  • I think they done well here, they put on the Travis-Style which sounds quiet pretty

  • This song is uncover-able...that said; I don't hate this.

  • packfilz.com

    packfilz.com

  • how many years under arrest they got for destroying this masterpiece!!!!!!

  • @Twilight37 Yes the Travis live version on Jools Holland is better than this also Travis are always better live and thanks for the comment ;-) i'm going to look for that version just now .

  • where can I buy this?

  • @blankme206 As far as I know, you can only get it by acquiring the 'Igby Goes Down' soundtrack, and there you have it: track number one is this wonderful cover!

  • Travis do the best covers!! They are excellent at this!

  • piu delicata e armonica , suono eccezzionale..ma meno rock

  • rivals joan baez' cover of "the night they drove old dixie down" for dreadful.

  • the best one of all "the weight" covers!!

  • totally always thought this was "Take a Load off Fatty"

  • @supermansflu totally lol...

  • this sucks... why don't you cover tom petty?

  • @lmiteyone this does NOT suck. perhaps it's just not your cup of tea...

  • @Keytaster you're right, i apologize

  • @lmiteyone L O L

  • @lmiteyone Tom Petty is terrible.

  • @lmiteyone it doesn't suck, but that was a funny post anyway!

  • P!ATD is better !!!! hahahaha !! just sayin !

  • @MyPatricia001 I beg to differ...

  • Where's the third string vocal......dang it !!!!

  • cool sound! i like travis;))))

  • A very poignant, faithful cover of an amazing song. Travis are definitely talented. I'm seeing Fran Healy (solo) live in August. He's opening for Keane on their North American summer tour.

  • Great cover - Travis rocks

  • Igby Goes Down =)

  • i love this song

  • this has a lot more soul.

  • just heard this song in igby goes down, awesome song! (and movie)

  • best version by jimmy page , jack white , the edge ;)

  • @HajrudinPranjga can i download any of those versions somewhere? cant find them on limewire.... (aaaaah !!)

  • Its from the movie It might get loud where I heard there version ;)

  • the best version of this song is aretha franklin and duane allman on guitar.... ainec....

  • Igby Goes Down :D <3

  • Both Smith and the Band versions are better in my book, but this is still nice, and I have to give these guys for reminding me of the existence of this song when I saw them open for Oasis in Berkeley in 2000.

  • ..........................why do people always use the exact same music (as in chords/instrument for instrument/drums line) for covers? If i wanted to hear this I would listen to the band, cause the band does it a lot better. They should atleast put in some of thier own interpretation

  • I would normally agree with you, but in the case of the The Weight, I find it to be such a perfect song, anybody can play it the exact same way and still make it completely their own. Its like the universally perfect song.

  • It's a cover, as a musician myself I can tell you that covers are nothing more than interpretations and open to our personal preferences.

Bands generally cover songs they themselves like, and a lot of times a cover is about showing your love for a particular song or band.

I can see why some people would prefer this cover over the original or other covers, it's just a matter of taste. This is actually my second least favorite of the covers on youtube.

    Still love the original most.

  • this is definitely not better than the band, no one is better than the band, the band is barely better than the band

  • @RobotNixon08 soo true Dude...

  • what these newer bands dont get, is that its NOT supposed to be a light song. like, at all. they're recording it in their AC professional studios when really they should go to the country and record it in a barn after living there for a few months with NO money or anything that we're spoiled with. the band toured with dylan and afterwrads wrote this. that should say enough.

  • I agree. It's supposed to be a soulful, roughly sang, improvised and ever evolving song. Too clean for my taste. Admirable attempt though.

  • Better than original, for sure better sung better played and i wouldn't even like the song if i had not heard travis do it.

  • not sure i agree with that, its not a bad effort but better? im not convinced. the weezer version is not 2 shabby either.

  • Mature. You retard.

  • awesomely good sound indeed on this video.

  • definitely some deep seated psychosis

  • cry cry cry like a little girl. having a tantrum ?

  • yea man, he's mad that he's wrong. I definitely got like 20 personal messages from that kid, he must really be mad. OH NOES

    LOLOL

  • Fran is a Dylan fan :D

this one is really really cool

  • Last tune on the movie "Igby Goes Down" .I thought it was a girl singing, but nevertheless a worthy rendition. When the intro started playing in the movie I thought it was Greg Allman's version of These Days.

  • Yeh that is where I heard it.

  • sound a bit gay and whiny!

  • so does the original

  • not to sound like a doucher but im pretty sure the band did the original on their first album as "the band" without bob dylan

the album is called "music from big pink"

and if you dont know much about the band you should watch the last waltz

  • no bob dylan definately did the original... look for it on his website

  • sorry kid

    youre wrong

  • sorry kid but reading shit on wikipedia is wrong. bob dylan wrote it and the band did a tour with him where they played it.

and of all the people who have played this song the bands version NEVER made charts, so even if they were the first, to many people did it better, so "the band" is pretty much garbage.

  • lol sorry kid but youre so wrong its funny

robbie robertson wrote the song and thats a fact

keep talking about things that you really have no idea about if you want

youre just making yourself look like a fool

and how can you say the bands version never made the charts when thats the only song most people know from the band?

    thats just silly

  • im not gonna fight with someones uneducated opinion claiming that its fact.

  • thats how i feel about it

    have a good day

  • Robbie Robertson wrote it!!!!!!

    not even close to bob.

How does it feel to be so wrong

    a complete moron

like a rolling can full of garbage?

  • how does it feel/ to reply to a comment/ that i wrote months ago/ and be a total doucher/ even tho it was on dylan's website/ that he wrote the song/ and now im mocking your shitty attempt/ to make like a rolling stone about garbage (me)/ but your not even worth trying to make it rhyme.

P.S. "the Band" is garbage and so uncreative that they couldnt even come up with a good artist name so dont even try to argue because your uneducated and probably a fuckin hillbilly

  • the band with bob dylan did this song, but yeah.

  • written by Robbie Robertson, first version the band, covered many times,

  • you are 100% correct

  • you must be semi-retarded because this comment replied to someone who said bob dylan did the song, and then you argued with me. GTFO kid.

  • your still commenting as well, so your argument is invalid fuckin dumbass. suck my dick. if i were actually mad i would just leave it alone because im smart enough not to get mad at the computer. i just think people are dumbasses and i like to tell them

  • lol I know man, but thanks for the backup anyways, kids these days..

  • muy buena rola pero me gusta mas con theweight. amor y paz

  • When these boys played this at Glasto it blew me away. Brilliant cover of an enigmatic classic.

  • Gotta agree with you there man, these guys really can put on a show. Out of about 250 bands I've seen live, they're in my top 10, and I'd never heard of them when I saw them. I saw them play the Fillmore in 1997, opening for one of my then-favorites "Ben Folds Five" and I was blown away by Travis and left the Ben Folds part of the concert early because Travis felt like the headliner!

  • First heard this in "Igby Goes Down".

    Great cover.

    -J-

  • total travis.

    very good...

man there are alot of recent good and different covers of this songs!

  • Brill :)

  • I LOVE THIS COVER!!! XD awesome possum! :]

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting this! I have been looking for the live version from jools holland but have so far been unsuccessful. This is good though!
