I have spent too much time on WoWwiki learning about history and such. Most of the juicy bits in WoW are covered in the novels, and Deathwing was a prominent villain in them. Also: have been playing since BC not vanilla,I've never played the Warcraft games though I have read about their story as it pertains to WoW. Go look up Deathwing, read quest text.

If you want something more timely, Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects is your book, though you might want to read The Shattering: Prelude to Cataclysm first. Now while I have read some Warcraft books I haven't read these, and I can't speak for quality, but the last two are by Christie Golden and she does good work in the series.
I don't get why people are upset over the 'tentacles', because those *are* part of Deathwing. Everything in this fight IS Deathwing, and you're tearing him apart piece by piece. Not to mention that from the looks of things, he's just clinging to life at this point and is desperate to see his plans to fruition.

This fight looks awfully boring and poorly planned. If I were to have designed this raid, it would have started the same, you fight on his back, trying to knock him down, but then the whole raid starts to fall and everyone plummets slowly mid air towards the maelstrom(While still being able to cast spells and such) and you have to DPS race him down as you fall to make the maelstrom close or you will plummet through to the other side and die Deathwing all the while would be swinging at you wildly
This fight and the one directly before it are actually the entire Deathwing encounter if you put them together. Watch them BOTH before you start complaining.

While the Rogue's focus was on the tentacle wiggling around on the back of the island, Deathwing is flailing around, writhing and screaming at the four other Aspects as they become free to beat him down. The ocean is raging and crashing and boiling around the Maelstrom and to stop the little players from giving him the worst hang-nail of his life, Deathwing throws PIECES of himself to splatter them (this killed the Rogue once).
But tbh this is utterly dissapointing to know that the MAIN antagonist in the expansion was killed on the PTR already. Walk in and faceroll tacs.
I'm from the time when raid bosses were fun and unknown. We'd walk in without knowing what to do and finding out the mechanics was imo about 70% of the fun in a new raid boss.
Blizzard is regressin at least the last bosses in raids in wotlk werent on ptr (LK, Y-Saron)
Hopefully theres a Algalon/Sinestra hidden boss type for surprise

People dont get it, you have to fight deathwing a bunch of times, this isnt the only part. The other encounters with him are totally different, you dont only fight his claws and these tentacles.
It looks like the entire raid is just dps-ing a claw. That makes a lot of sense--of course Deathwing will just leave his claw there for the raid to dps. No, he would not pick it up to avoid damage or scratch the raid.

they should make thrall SHOOP DA WOOP deathwing at the end. that is all. and also, to all the whiners: this is a 3 part fight. this is the final stage after wounding deathwing sending him crashing to the ground. this is not the entire fight, nor is this the final product.
Explanation. This is the last part of the deathwing bossfight. You start off by doing a prequest of sorts in CoT. Getting the items neccecary to accually kill him.
Second you fight him on his back while hes raging through azeroth. And this is the final part. Where you have weakened deathwing enough that with the help of the aspects, you kill him.
So no, this encounter isn't "it" and i bet you this raidboss in all its stages will be more epic then everything we've seen thusfar.

Also, a small FYI, about the vent comment, just incase you didnt know, you can have more than one audio source. For example, basic lime green connection and a USB headset (or other way round) you can have both running at same time and still focus. Of course this is on Windows 7. Troll be trolling!!

We tear him apart. Piece by piece. Everything we fight—every targetable entity we attack in the final two encounters of Dragon Soul—is Deathwing.

People dont get it, you have to fight deathwing a bunch of times, this isnt the only part. The other encounters with him are totally different, you dont only fight his claws and these tentacles.

It looks like the entire raid is just dps-ing a claw. That makes a lot of sense--of course Deathwing will just leave his claw there for the raid to dps. No, he would not pick it up to avoid damage or scratch the raid.

The idea is pretty damn cool but in actual game play it doesnt have the same effect i think =/

Explanation. This is the last part of the deathwing bossfight. You start off by doing a prequest of sorts in CoT. Getting the items neccecary to accually kill him.
Second you fight him on his back while hes raging through azeroth. And this is the final part. Where you have weakened deathwing enough that with the help of the aspects, you kill him.
So no, this encounter isn't "it" and i bet you this raidboss in all its stages will be more epic then everything we've seen thusfar.

Also, a small FYI, about the vent comment, just incase you didnt know, you can have more than one audio source. For example, basic lime green connection and a USB headset (or other way round) you can have both running at same time and still focus. Of course this is on Windows 7. Troll be trolling!!

Who the fuck brings up * spoilers * on a beta video you most likely have to search for? And I didn't even bring up anything in terms of game play, so me not playing the game currently does not matter. Yes I searched for this content, yes I took an hour out of my day to see how the WoW story has progressed. Many people enjoy just the wow story and not the game play.

@imunreal You seem to just not understand anything like you have some weird form of autism , two sources of audio during raid time is dumb as fuck? You're either listening to the ingame audio, or you're listening to your raid about the fight during the fight, OR you just have them both on at the same time but then again you're not getting the full effect of the fight if you're on vent. The point is to see the fight in it's intended quality,no vent , just enjoying the music/V.O's during the fight
