if it wasnt real it would have said "All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental." obviously most of you havent watched the movie all the way through
I think this is the final frontier for f*cked up shit. Honestly, if you can find something any creepier than this movie, I'd like to know. (But then again probably I wouldn't.)
i doubt this movie will come out in theaters, u can download it form torrent sites (mininova) its very good quality like dvd 1.6gb, but my god , this movie was so bad, judge urself
It constantly amazes me how gullible people are. If a real "house of horrors" like this had actually been discovered -- with *800* video tapes of murder victims, it would have been the lead story on every network news station in the whole frigging world. Was it? Anyone remember that? No. Why? Because it never happened.
And if it did happen and the killer was still at large, the tapes would be evidence in an active case and wouldn't be released to the public.
Where does this supposed imitation end and complete fiction begin since they aren't simply re-enacting (according to you) but actually meet and talk with the woman who was held captive.
Except (according to you) this is an actress.
Did they really meet with her or didn't they? Did she really kill herself or didn't she?
Or was that all just made up?
In a Q & A the directors discussed their plans for this to be part of a trilogy.
It isnt 100% fake it is based on a guy but even so 800 tapes dont mean 800 dead people.. it obviously means 800 videos related.. there are several housr meaning 5-10 tapes alone of agirl playing with balloons apparently on it so yeah, do research before commenting ^^
There was a real serial killer in the Poughkeepsie area, but that killer didn't keep anyone captive for months and *didn't* shoot any video tapes.
There aren't any "real" video tapes. There was no "real" killer corresponding to the one in this movie. He wasn't "killed" He never lived. It's a pseudo-documentary like The Blair Witch Project. It's a work of fiction. Look it up on Wikipedia. Look it up on the Internet Movie Data Base.
@prodprod you clearly didnt live in poughkeepsie this guy is real my dear he killed these women the tape were leaked years after the police used them i did hit news networks at least in my area asss
@jin54363 "Actually" it's based on a real story the same way that Psycho and Texas Chainsaw Massacre are based on "real stories" - that is - they're really not. It's a "real story" only to the microscopic extent that there was a serial killer at one time in Poughkeepsie. Period. That's it. That's the full extent of it's connection to reality. He didn't video tape his killings. He didn't stalk and tape his victims. He didn't kidnap a girl and keep her hostage. None of that is true.
@masonentreri What exactly am I denying? What parts of this make-believe documentary correspond to literal fact -- and if you're going to claim it, please direct me to something credible, like some published source material, not just something *you're* making up or heard about or remember.
If I see if, then I'll believe it. Otherwise, the evidence I have convinces me that that this is simply a work of fiction dressed up like a documentary like any number of other such pseudo-documentaries.
ya and its fukin true ppl say it aint cuz of wikipedia and dats cuz in wikipedia ppl pst watever shit dey want and they didnt come out in public beacuase so many ppl live in this fukin town and no one wod ever come there or stay there or go to their college
The whole Poughkeepsie tapes thing is real. There WERE 800 tapes found in Poughkeepsie, New York but not from just one serial killer. What the director of this movie did was put some of them together and make a FICTIONAL serial killer who taped all of them. But it's just a movie, and a really good one too. Quite interesting, but fucking creepy.
Rumors are that it comes out this year around February.

This movie is fake, immoral and unethical. It misuses the documentary genre of film, it dishonors victims of serial killers, and smears people who live in Poughkeepsie, which has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. MGM and anyone associated with these project are greedy dirtbags, cashing by crossing the Blair Witch, and Silence of the Lambs. Big yawn.
There wasn't a serial killer in Pougkeepsie who video taped his killings! This movie was based off of different killings, but the whole story is FICTIONAL
You're absolutely right...why didn't they release that footage they found in Maryland a few years back? And it made its way into the theatres.
Oh wait...that's the Blair Witch Project!
BTW, it might interest you guys to know that: a) the director himself calls this a "faux documentary"; b) his inspiration was when he was mugged in NYC; and c) For those who claim the Poughkeepsie police found 800 tapes from various killers- how does that make sense? A Poughkeepsie video club? C'mon!

September 2001, any other special significant events come to mind?
These arent the authentic tapes they are acted ones based on the real tapes, using the real tapes would be an infringement of the law
