Actually, it can never be used as a commercial transport as there is no feasible way to get passengers off of it in time during an emergency. It is being heavily looked at by commercial freight haulers and the military as the loads the blending wing design offer are astronomical compared to a standard fuselage aircraft. They are talking about 1000 tons of lift capacity with these airframes, that is double what a b 747-400 series aircraft leaves the ground at!
the long pole like thing on the back is a device to shoot out a stabilizer parachute in case the they lose control of it. after stabilized the chute can be cut off.

nice aeroplane,it's not new, just a new version of an old idea. That idea was pioneered by Jack Northrop in the 1930's with the YB-49. Thing is now computers can help keep the plane in the air which makes this possible. Sadly it'll likely be just a curiosity or a business jet, but it won't catch on in airlines.
The BWB is NOT a Flying Wing. The Flying Wing is just that. Two wings attached together with no fuselage between them. The BWB has a fuselage. Look at some photos of the Flying Wing next to the BWB and you will see the difference. The Stealth Bomber is also a BWB and not a Flying Wing.
i would love to see commercial aircraft being made into this design. it would be fantastic to see an aircraft capable to carry 1000 people a flight.

these things made to go into space?
kopwner 1 year ago
@kopwner The X-48 program is to work out flight control systems for military & commercial sub-sonic aircraft.
There are no publicly know
space" blended wing designs, but i do know of
private" design efforts for space going BWB's.

This plane is RC but my sources tell me a C-130 sized is being developed for a military & cargo aircraft.
For fun a friend and I have designed a space plane based on the X-48B

Does it have to fly dirty? Is this a manned plane or RC or Robotic? Is it being designed for military, space or transportation?
