  • The BEST MSG ensemble by far. This defined the MSG sound.

  • I love how they open it with Wagner Ride of the Valkyries. Germans ROCK !

  • Great opening number!

  • Gary Barden sounds fuckin great!

  • And he does it all with 3 fingers. No pinky.Incredible.

  • Along with Urlich Roth, one of the most underrated guitarists. Just great.

  • @demonhoopa

    Tottaly agree

  • Cool as fuck. I remember this stuff well.

  • SCHENKER IS GOD!!!!!!!!

  • @oplivecrime206 AGREED!!!!!!!

  • Reminds me of sitting at the record player with a les paul and a carlsborough stingray amp in my youth, learning all the best riffs of the day.

  • The winner and still champion after more than 3 decades MICHAEL SCHENKER...

And yes, he may have recycled a riff or theme here and there, but so have just about every great musician and writer on Earth.

  • Damn good shit!!

It's been over 25 years since I played this.

    MSG rules, men!!

    Good ole memory.....

  • Wow! Happy memories. When audiences looked like their heroes and not Dell boy like todays farts. Lotsa lovely long hair, loud bands, eternal guitar solos, loud music and beautiful women. bless you all.

  • One of these riffs he just cut and pasted into Victim of Illusion.

  • Aí galera, no ano que vem teremos o ROCK IN LIXO, só vem grupos chatos, nada que se pareça com o que estamos vendo.

  • man.. they just dont do it like that anymore.. sad isnt it

  • i remember this shit.

  • Michael / Cozy Powell - two of the best musicians in their business

Classic song, pure rock n roll

  • Guys, is this from the Rock Palast broadcast back in the 80s? Haven't seen this for ages. TY for posting this, awesome. Schenker Barden at their best!

  • this is when Schenker ruled the world....SIMPLY THE BEST....I was so influenced by him back in the day....!

  • Hmm I wonder where Dave Mustaine and Kirk Hammett got half their licks...

  • @dantes1815 prolly shouldnt use those 2 in the same sentence..mustaines a better guitarist then hammett anyday. Back on topic. highly agree

  • @dantes1815 - or their drinking habit lol

  • What a great line-up

  • This song rocks. Great solo.

  • What is the name of the first song?

  • @hellsing2311 the first one is called ..armed and ready

  • I miss hearing real rock and roll... MSG rules...

  • MSG rrocks

  • FAAAAAAAHAAAAG!

  • MICHAEL SCHENKER 4 EVER!!!!!

  • Gary Barden is awsome, and MS, MY GOD !!!!!!!!!!

  • Schenker's influence is huge world wide!

  • a great band Cozy Powell was an outstanding drummer.

  • Awesome-Herr Schenker laying down the licks on an MSG classic! Thanks for posting.

  • ゲイリーと一番相性が良いと思います。

  • 懐かしい

  • Kick ASS RIFF!!!!

  • ya gary bardon is amazing. for n e 1 that knows how to play a guitar the solo is more insane to play then it sounds

  • shenker superb,say no more

  • woooooooow!!! beautiful riff!

  • Saw this tour at the University of British Columbia's 'sub-ballroom' -- a tiny, shitty little hole. MSG was the headliner, the opening act was a 'punk rock' band from Vancouver who got booed off the stage.

  • Gary Bardon

  • good shit, whose the lead singer here?

  • michael shanker and he is the brother of the lead singer of scorpions

  • early scorpions were one of the best and I have many german rock bands here from that time period when they started it was called kraut rock

  • thought he was brother to his replacement guitarist Rudy...Klaus Meine was the lead singer of Scorps

  • His brother didnt replace him, he was founder of the Scorpions, he was replaced by Uli Roth, and then the second time by Mattias Jabs.

  • Yeah, Michael Schenker gives the word 'nasalgia' a good name!

  • ドラムはコージー・パウエル?

  • I agree.....

  • I saw this concert in Chicago 1980, November 28. They were the Molly Hatchet opener. Aragon Brawlroom

  • I have this concert on dvd. It is in Hamberg, Germany. At the beginning you can here them say "Rockpalast"(The venue) and then Gary says "Let me hear you Hamberg". Maybe you meant you saw them on this tour. This is definitely in Hamberg at the Rockpalast 1981.

  • Metavenge Is Playing A Show With Them

  • WOW This video brings back some great memories, this was the very first concert i ever went to. MSG was opening up for Ted Nugent on this tour, I saw them at the San Jose Civic auditorium.

Sometimes i really love the internet. ;-)

  • Amazing. This is top notch!

  • great, great, great, this man is an amazing player.have been listening to him since 1973.will always be my favorite.rock on boys.

  • The great Cozy Powell on the drums - yes!!!

  • If you are saying his singing sucks, you clearly aren't listiners to this kind of genre of music.

  • what is wrong with his voice, if you have a problem with him that ur not the type who listens to 80's hairbands and some metal

  • go cozy go

  • not a good singer wtf? i would like to hear you try it then you can say he's not a good singer if you can do better which i doubt,

  • Many people complained about barden i think he was great singer in this time ,My band did a cover on this one 1981 lots of memories Great times early 80s

  • love the guitar and drums, but not a very good singer...

  • I'll say this again: MS the best of the best as a self taught geetar player.

  • what does self taught have to do with anything?

  • Well after Eddie Van Halen the guitar schools started to show up and churn out generic shredders. Self taught tends to allow musician to find their own voice.

  • Comment removed

  • Schenker was self taught. What are you saying?

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, Rudolf used to pay Michael a little cash to learn songs for him while had to go to work. Beatles, Shadows and stuff.

  • Hard Rock Man!

  • now i understand why everyone uses schenker licks

    they jus fuckin rule man

  • this is awesome, just got into schenkers stuff, now i know what ev1 is talkin about on how great he is

  • this is great!

  • Went to see MSG headlining with Starfighters at Hammersmith Odeon, gawd..must have been 1981! Great memories!

  • Anyone else that think the riff sounds like Hooks In You by Iron Maiden?

    Great song

  • Yes, I agree 100%

  • 'Hooks in you' was 1990, 'armed and ready' was recorded late 1979 released on the debut album in 1980, so in reality, the question is, 'does the riff in 'hooks in you' sound like 'armed and ready'

  • good point lynneswolf well said

    .

  • awesome rock on michael

  • Gary Barden was the shit, on the first 2 LP's!! They both fucken shredded!!!! Without Barden, the 3rd....Assult Attack didn't hold the same creedence, IMO....

Michael Schenker still mother fucking SHREDDS, today!!!!!!!!!!!! Long live Michael Schenker!!!!!!

  • agreed, rockerlawyer,u hit the head on the nail with this.this truly great.have been a huge schenker fan for over 30 yrs now.ok guys rock on.

  • Gary friggin' Barden. I love the way he used to shake his head to add vibrato to his vocals.

Still, I agree with rockerlawyer, there aren't enough stars on the grid to adequately express what this video is worth. Fucking awesome.

  • D'Anno from Maiden did that too. Look at any early Maiden footage.

  • This one deserves more than 5 stars

  • going to be on GH Metallica!!!

  • i thought in GH: metallica would be only metallica songs... but damn good songs like this r always welcome!!

  • You do know that Michael Schenker is kirk Hammets biggest hero.

  • reeally..i could of sworn that that was Jimi Hendrix

  • You can here it in Kirk Hammet's playing example Metallica's Fade to Black last 2 minute solo was almost same as On With The Action by UFO and Schenker(1975 I think).

  • but still that doesnt prove anything though, and ive allways noticed how hung up he is in jimi hendrix

  • Two months ago in some guitar mag that featured Kirk he was asked on how he stars to compose his solo he replied and said he always starts by doing what schenker does...dont know what that means. Why do you think kirk uses Gibson flying V..

  • im not saying he doesnt like schenker but im just saying that i think hendrix is his hero, for your information hendrix also used a flying v..

  • You know about UFO and Michael Schenker. Kirk knows Schenkers solo on every UFO album... He doesnt mention Schenker as much because he doesnt want to insult American GP like EVH.

  • Yah, theres gonna be guest appearances from bands like Judas Priest, the Michael Schenker group and Mastadon

  • there gonna be 28 songs from metallica and 21 songs by other bands

  • saw him on this tour. Worst gig I've ever been to. He didn't want to be there and did less than an hour. Shame, was really looking forward to it.

  • Michael Schenker - one of the BEST rock guitarists EVER! He had it all - tone, emotiveness, speed, riffs, great solo contstruction, technical ability, soulfulness, bluesy, etc. etc. etc. All HAIL the great 'guitar god' MS!!!

  • foxinabox duude im 13 and i crank this riff! it rocks!

  • Spread the word. Schenker and Roth rule!

  • There is that damn white jacket again lolol

  • When you're a kid and you're kicking off the headline set at Donington with your tennis racquet while your mums screaming at you to turn it down coz your dads on lates THIS is the riff you're cranking. Well, if you're 40 years + like me it is !!!

  • well said. . . This album has some good guitar stuff on it, if there are any 15 year olds reading, buy it !!!

  • im 13 and already have it

  • I think I was there when MSG opened for Iron Maiden that summer...

  • ele é foda

  • yo i here it ,when i was 10 years!!!

  • I saw MSG back in the day. Very powerful live show. Michael Schenker destroys 90% of the guitarists out there. Most of those fake 80s hairspray bands borrowed heavily from MSG and got rich; they couldn't carry MSG's luggage.

  • 90%???

  • AMEN!!!

  • Amazing and powerful MSG takes the stage by storm.

  • I love all the old school fans here.try to play this now adays and the 20 year olds look at us like we use to look at our mom and dad .... lolololol

  • Sorry hadd13 disagree. I took my 16 yo stepson plus his friend to Wacken 2006 & they were blown away by Whitesnake. Were going to see the plus Def Leppard next month in Liverpool. Clasic Rock will never die!

  • there are exceptions

  • Since 1972

  • hadd you're completely wrong, most of the 20 yo of today look OLD compared to 70's kids.

they are fat, short haired and ugly.

The real young people is from the 70's with long hair and crazy looks.

In fact at the whitesnake, kiss, priest, def leppard, rush ecc... shows A LOT of the audience is very very young, especially in europe, south america and asia, probably in usa the youth is too stupid and listen to rap and crap!!!!

  • so true!

  • why did michael always play the flying V?

  • He only used it on special occasions...

  • He borrowed it from Rudy on stage when his e string broke on a Les Paul. Rudy didn't need it playin rhythym.

  • wow dwight.cant wait for that.barden was always MSG singer for me.been crying into my rum at mcauley/schenker efforts on utube.

  • Gary Barden is actually singing on MSG's upcoming album. I love that scream he belts out at :42. I'd bet 90% of the contestants on American Idle-errrr-Idol couldn't hit that note if they tried. This was, and is, rock and roll.

  • He is 52 now. Don't expect this.

  • thanx for posting, wow what a great song and I am always happy to see the one and only Cozy Powell play!!

  • thanks d.dave.u summed it up.passage of time a terrible thing.what happened to gary barden?

  • Thanks for posting this. I saw all the metal bands 79-82, including MSGs first 2 years. This is a truly great representation of what a superb band they were, something I had forgotten. Had they been 3 years later & from the USA they would have been superstars. Like many old rockers I am proud of my memories. Where can I get this DVD from. Agreed now Michael is a shadow of his former self, but you cannot take the memories away. Source of video PLEASE!!!!

  • 1981.......NO!

They didn't have camera phones back then.

    Dumbass.

  • Dude, I was joking. I know that. It was a pun on the quality, numbnuts.

  • lol

  • lol

  • Go die.

  • Gary kicks ass! Love his screams.

  • I think the pickguard is one piece but 2 colours which became Schenkers trademark with his Flying V's. This is the best I've ever heard Gary Bardon sing live..high notes and all, very impressive

  • has anyone ever noticed that the pickguard

is on the wrong side, as if the guitar were originally a lefty?

  • This rocks for sure! I even like Gary Barden's singing here!

  • What a line up! One of the few metal guitarists that had a style and sound all to himself. I saw him in Seattle in the summer...a little rusty, but a good time had by all, on and off the stage.

  • Really Rockin!

  • I've got this whole gig(done for german tv)on dvd and schenks is technically on form throughout. I always felt his style was about getting as many tricks as he could get away with per solo, and that his playing lacked the humanity and passion of some of his british peers. then he hits you with "let sleeping dogs lie" and that teutonic efficiency just melts away.

still think barden is rocks own cliff richard, though. the gurning dwarf.

  • used to be so good, schenker and bardens..now run by a shambles of management....get yourself back on track and stick out some hot shit like on this video..you were the best man

  • For some reason the clip look`s like it is going faster. Have seen Rock Bottton from this concert and it looks better as the picture is going slower, a normal speed!

    Not sure what's up.

  • Yeah I see what yer sayin. I have this dvd, and the music played is on time, excellent. The video is choppy. But kicks ass--Different camera, different film speeds.

  • Thanks for posting this. I'm a biker/rocker from the late 70s and early 80s. I liked Gary Barden best in MSG. Saw them in about 1981 at Reading I think. This album is excellent too.

  • Yes, spot on. Saw MSG many times around the period of this video and to all those who slated Barden as being no good were missing the point. He suited that band perfectly and it's a shame that he didn't go on to greater things. Great to see the late Cozy Powell again too.

  • I had never listened to any song by M.S. before, but Zakk Wylde told he was a big influence, so I tried this one out. It sounds so Iron Maiden circa '82/83 - More than any british metal band. really, I coulnd't tell the diference, if someone told me it was an unreleased b-side by Maiden, I would've bought!

  • maiden sounds totally different, that's for sure!

  • R.I.P Cozy

  • RIP Cozy.

  • saw him open for the scorps in manchester this summer - what a shame...I can hold a solo better than that. childhood hero turned sour. boozy without a care. come on mike - pick it up man...

  • try as you might, what makes a guitar player is that you gotta belive in yourself and play from your heart,by the way where's your stuff at

  • what do you know about the stuff??

  • what stuff? - is stuff important?

  • not when you have four cans of mcewans and a copy of "budokan".

  • i forgot

  • L I T E R A L L Y A M A Z I N G ! ! !

  • Wow....takes me back, that does. Always LOVED MSG. What a line up. Paul Raymond is the perfect partner for Schenker. Powell and Glenn, powerhouse rhythm section, and Gary Barden....superb vocalist. Heavy Rock'n'Roll the way it should be. Thanks for posting z650. K Where could I get this vid from??

  • sounds like iron madien's hooks in you !

  • great post cheers!Good to see the mighty Cozy Powell on drums again :-}

  • I saw Michael Schenker the other night.

    He was an utter disgrace.

  • SwingRiots, why was Schenker a disgrace. Did he turn into a fat slob? Was up?

  • Bar none, Schenker MOST UNDERRATED genius of Rock Guitar in the World. Schenker was my biggest influence. What a great style and emotion to his playing!

  • Agreed one of the best ever!

  • Bellissimo e bravissimo Michael Schenker!!!

  • Hamberg, Germany at the Rockpalast I have the site address for the guy I got it from 5 bucks a dvd with awesome quality, sound etc. Some dvd's with 2 shows on them

  • Do you still have the contact details of the guy you got this 1981 Rockpalast DVD from? If you have that would be fantastic. Schenker is battling his demons at the moment but he' still the best!!

  • Michael schenker group, mindblowing like all the greats TIMELESS.

  • Great stuff!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is that Pete Way on the bass?,certainly looks like!

  • going to see Michael and the scorpians in london at the end of the month, anyone know who the line up is going to be?

  • Chris Glenn on bass Gary Barden on vocals

  • that clears it up thanks!

  • If you dont have this concert on dvd you should get it. Give me a message on here and I can send you the web page address for the guy I got it and other MSG/Scorpions/old AC/DC and others for 4 or 5 bucks a dvd, some with 2 shows on them. Killer stuff and great quality!!

  • I cant even see the bass player..the second guitar player is paul Raymond...hes left handed..in this year..1981..it was Chris on bass on the dozen or so gigs I saw..and this is around 81..but where's Chris hiding here ?

  • You can spot him at 1:07 (behind Raymond), 1:42, and 2:42. He is standing centerstage, right in front of the bass drum. He's there, but you have to look for him! Someti8mes when they show Raymond, you can spot the bass guitar if you watch the right of the screen. He'll pop in now and then.

  • Got him thanks ! No need to blame the CIA then.

  • I think you are confused..the guy with the stripey trousers is not the bass player..its the second guitar player paul raymond..Chris was the bass player at this time but I cant actually see the bass player in this clip at all..its a conspiracy..quick call Alex Jones !

  • Brill guitatr playing who is the singer he;s great!

RIP Cozy Powell on the drums!!

  • Pretty sure that's Glenn Hughes.
