about the draco rolling on the floor thing--lauren (the girl who plays draco) came up with it because draco always tries to do things but he always fales, so she was thinking that he would try to be cool and strike poses and stuff, but then he would always fall or fail to look cool and he would pretend that he did that on purpose, to look cool -again. geddit ?? =)
@twilightaddiction001 that was the BEST..especially when draco tried to lean on the desk and ended up rolling around instead..lol ftw... she was the best one on stage [except i'm a liar...cuz they were ALL amazing.<3]
I can TOTALLY see this show making money on Broadway.!..Okay...well maybe not in a giant Shubert Theater....and maybe not a giant Tony nod...but perhaps something smaller on Broadway...like........A THEATRICAL EVENT! Kind of like Liza at the Palace or Your Welcome America..or if that's pushing it, maybe even Off-Broadway, or a tour...either way, I can see it as a great entertainment for everyone (NOT just HP fans) to see!
I'd actually seen one of AJ Holmes' (one of the guys who wrote the lyrics and directed the musical) productions on YouTube prior to this musical. He'd directed and acted in a production of Jason Robert Brown's Songs for a New World... it's one of the best productions of that show on YouTube. So, I kind of knew what to expect from him. He'd make an EXCELLENT Broadway director, I'll tell you what! =D
(cont.) The acting was VERY smartly done. I can't think of one weak link to any of the actors. The songs were amazing, and I LOVE how they parodied a stereotypical cheesy musical that randomly bursts into song. The singing was AWESOME, although it was a little thin on the higher notes and Voldemort took took some breaths in...very interesting places. But otherwise, great singing.
Coming from a Broadway stand point of view (I'm not a GIANT HP fan, read the books, thought they were good, but never picked them up again,) I had VERY low expectations for the show when I first discovered it. I'm glad it proved me wrong! I was afraid I wouldn't understand any of the jokes, or the show would be too cheesy, but everything was spot on! The acting was PHENOMINAL (particulaly with Joe Walker and Lauren Lopez) Strangely, the cheesyness only added to the performances.
I thought I was the only one who noticed the Oh, Goyle rules. I loved that! I was cracking up!!!! I'm still singing the songs...and I have watched the musical three times. <3
Just saying, I think one of the reasons why they made Malfoy roll on the ground and take weird poses all the time was because Malfoy in the movies often gets introduced in scenes with similar poses lol (of course he doesn't roll on the ground but it's those "I'm better than you" moments that are taken to an awkward level in this musical loool.
But great review! I liked the fact that candies like gushers and fruit by the foot were mentioned too lol It seems so long ago!
Well she probably came up with it, but I think part of it was to render a caricature of Malfoy's portrayal in the movies lol. Of course, it could've been completely thought of independently from the movies. I wouldn't know XD But if she didn't get this idea from the movies, then it's all the more hilarious because it perfectly fits with how Malfoy acts up on screen! lol
… there's a bug on the wall behind you.
Just thought you should know.

Sadly Gushers and Fruit by the Foot were a long time ago. It makes me feel old to think back to that time.
