I had people post things about asking youtube to stop showing animal abuse videos as they encourage animal abusers. I always reply back that I can't the guy the abused the animal would never be investigated and the awareness would go away by blinding the ugly truth under the rug.

It's so HARD to predict what will happen to an un-handled scared equine when the flank strap is tightened, just as they leave the chute. You mention horse slaughter, which is so laughable, it's sad. PLEASE explain why you only show the accidents? At some rodeos there are dozens of riders, yet you focus on the few bad moments, you can't see the forest for the trees. Give us a full length video of a rodeo, showing everything that happens, and keep these accidents in their true perspective.

It's obvious that none of you have been raised around these animals. If you had been you would know that many of the events in rodeos are what ACTUALLY happens. These practices aren't just for sport, ranchers use them every year to brand, tag and castrate new calves. To break in new horses. To make a living. This has been going on for decades, the only reason it's become so unaccepted now is because people have lost sight of the difference between a pet and an animal that is used to survive.

Most people back the horses by getting them used to the saddle and the person well before sitting on their back with spurs on, kicking like an idiot in front of hordes of people. I have bitten a horse's ear once, because it bit me. It was a brief nip and she didn't end up lying on the floor, having given up on life, refusing to move.
Rodeos are an American tradition, you can't change that, it's kinda in our blood. It's a tradition that at the time of their peak populairity, were favorable and no harm was seen in them. I completely understand this video though. I feel rodeos are completely unnessasary and there's more hurt done than happy. These animals who have been through rodeos to live, well their storys would be as a Holocaust survivors; brave and heat-breaking. These animals, just as anyone elses animals deserve a life.

Many of the videos that your organization posts are accidents that could have happened to any cow or horse whether they were in a rodeo or not. Rodeos are something cowboys and cowgirls love to do - they love to compete with their animals, and the animals do, too. These animals are athletes and love it. Some people are rough, yes, but not everyone. Don't bash all rodeos. My county rodeo isn't bad, but there are freak accidents every now and then - we don't abuse them.
@RunSkyRun1 When animals are injured in the same events over and over and those events aren't changed/modified/stopped in order so no other animals are injured in the same fashion, they're no longer 'accidents'. It becomes intentional indifference to animal suffering.
@RunSkyRun1, Please explain how the steers and calves are athletes? Do you give them workouts before each event? Are they given special treatment? Do they practice falling down in their pens? Do the broncs do a few crow-hops on their way through the chutes? They don't love it. They signed no contract. You did absolutely nothing but make it seem like rodeo's are bad. they treatment i saw in the video you created is nothing but supporting the All-American old cowboy way. it is a proven fact by many horse trainers and other experts that ear biting is a way to calm the horse, i have personally used the technique. its not a bit to make them bleed or hurt it is a pressure on the vein in their ear that releases endorphins. so do you're homework before you post things like this.

I'm an American n I disapproal of this crap, hate rodeo, i ride horses n love jumping 3' jumps, but i don't hit horses or mess with them. I will show i'm alpah female by making them wait an extra second and stand still and make them do so, but this rodeo is shit n not the good shit it's the shit that needs to stop even with bulls, there farm animals, and horses are too, but i perfer horses. Wish we could do this to the ppl who are doing this to them now... i would love to see that.
This is bad, but not all rodeos are bad. I have been in some myself, and a lot of the horses are our best friends, we put a lot of time and money into them and I love and care for each and every one. But this video does show some poor horsemanship on the riders part, I don't agree with anything that they have showed, its sad and its not proper. Just wanted to speak on behalf of rodeos, that they are not all bad.
In Buddhism , killing animals is a bad Karma that will return negative results to those who did it afterward sooner or later like a boomerang. Most people who kill many animals has short life and poor health and often die by accident. The more you kill , the more Karma you get. Avoid killing animals if possible , stop to do bad Karma. Nothing comes without a loss.

Somehow the wild horse "race" bothered me the most. I was embarrassed for those "cowboys" out there biting and twisting the horses' ears, tying and tripping them to get those saddles on. I can't believe they could do that in front of all those people and not be ashamed.

How could they. I used to like them when I was about 6 and then I looked closely and think twice and see all of the cruelness they bring to these animals. YOU DON'T FEEL THEIR PAIN. When does a roping horse drag a steer along the ground? A well trained roping horse keeps the roped steer in a steady positiion so the cowboy can brand/vaccinate it. Animals like these would be useless to most cowboys, because they are injured.

I personally HATE shark, they just make all rodeos seem bad, yes, i do see some mistreatment but not ALL rodeos treat there animals that way, ive been to tons of rodeos and rode in them and ive seen very few mistreatment of animals. I'm glad to see somebody standing up for what is right. I grew up around this so I know the people who defend it only defend it because it's all they know. There are people out there who love their animals and still do the rodeo thing but sometimes those people wake up and eventually stand up for what is right. @luckylvr7 Yes, they do. These are PRCA sanctioned rodeos; the prison rodeo was put on by the PRCA; and the National High School Finals Rodeo was also put on by the PRCA.
While I am not opposed to rodeos, I am definitely opposed to ones such as this one, where they do nothing to prevent their livestock from injuring themselves. There is animal abuse everywhere, and good for you for making a stand against it. Livestock practices require change, not necessarily banishment (like slaughter for example). We're part of a food chain which is essential, but we don't need to take advantage of being on top. One day people will respect their animals.
I've seen several of your videos, and while some of them I wouldn't really classify as 'abuse,' the majority of them are horrifying. I have been to many rodeos (I am an avid horse-enthusiast myself), and have never seen anything like this in my life. Some of the bucking horses shouldn't be doing anything, they look so awful. And while others look fantastic, I don't understand how they have so many issues with staying on their feet, short of the footing being crap.

I have been to rodeos done right and rodeos done wrong. This makes me sick. Animals aren't disposable, but to me it is easier to see cows as more disposable than horses, because we EAT cows and we ride and bond with horses. BUT, that does NOT mean that cows need to go through abuse either. I think that there needs to be stiff regulations that are followed. I think that most rodeo people I know would be perfectly willing to follow regulations, I just think that there aren't many in place.

It's obvious that none of you have been raised around these animals. If you had been you would know that many of the events in rodeos are what ACTUALLY happens. These practices aren't just for sport, ranchers use them every year to brand, tag and castrate new calves. To break in new horses. To make a living. This has been going on for decades, the only reason it's become so unaccepted now is because people have lost sight of the difference between a pet and an animal that is used to survive.

Rodeos are an American tradition, you can't change that, it's kinda in our blood. It's a tradition that at the time of their peak populairity, were favorable and no harm was seen in them. I completely understand this video though. I feel rodeos are completely unnessasary and there's more hurt done than happy. These animals who have been through rodeos to live, well their storys would be as a Holocaust survivors; brave and heat-breaking. These animals, just as anyone elses animals deserve a life.

Many of the videos that your organization posts are accidents that could have happened to any cow or horse whether they were in a rodeo or not. Rodeos are something cowboys and cowgirls love to do - they love to compete with their animals, and the animals do, too. These animals are athletes and love it. Some people are rough, yes, but not everyone. Don't bash all rodeos. My county rodeo isn't bad, but there are freak accidents every now and then - we don't abuse them.

This is bad, but not all rodeos are bad. I have been in some myself, and a lot of the horses are our best friends, we put a lot of time and money into them and I love and care for each and every one. But this video does show some poor horsemanship on the riders part, I don't agree with anything that they have showed, its sad and its not proper. @cowgirlrodeopauls This is not rodeo from my time. These riders/ropers are beyond abusive...I am ashamed to admit I am a rodeo fan if this is what it has come to. When does a roping horse drag a steer along the ground? A well trained roping horse keeps the roped steer in a steady positiion so the cowboy can brand/vaccinate it. Animals like these would be useless to most cowboys, because they are injured.

I personally HATE shark, they just make all rodeos seem bad, yes, i do see some mistreatment but not ALL rodeos treat there animals that way, ive been to tons of rodeos and rode in them and ive seen very few mistreatment of animals. The few times i did i reported it and those people got fined or kicked out. And trying to shut down rodeos or whatever is stupid. i think you just want something to bitch about.

I'm glad to see somebody standing up for what is right. I grew up around this so I know the people who defend it only defend it because it's all they know. There are people out there who love their animals and still do the rodeo thing but sometimes those people wake up and eventually stand up for what is right. It takes guts and people will hate you but whoever can watch this and still defend it are blind and refuse to wake up. These are Gods creation and we are to care for them and love them.

While I am not opposed to rodeos, I am definitely opposed to ones such as this one, where they do nothing to prevent their livestock from injuring themselves. There is animal abuse everywhere, and good for you for making a stand against it. Livestock practices require change, not necessarily banishment (like slaughter for example). We're part of a food chain which is essential, but we don't need to take advantage of being on top. One day people will respect their animals.

I've seen several of your videos, and while some of them I wouldn't really classify as 'abuse,' the majority of them are horrifying. I have been to many rodeos (I am an avid horse-enthusiast myself), and have never seen anything like this in my life. Some of the bucking horses shouldn't be doing anything, they look so awful. And while others look fantastic, I don't understand how they have so many issues with staying on their feet, short of the footing being crap.

people god damn...rodeos are not animal cruelty...for christ sakes...the horse at 3:19 just gave up...they tried to get it to get up by biting its ear...thats a common thing...if th ehorse doesnt get up theres nothin they can do with it and it has to be uthanized or else it will have serious trauma if it doesnt get up...ive seen it happen...at 730 the horse kept running and didnt stop...the man tried to get it to stop...they never try to hurt an animal...just like rough sports accidents happen

I have been to rodeos done right and rodeos done wrong. This makes me sick. Animals aren't disposable, but to me it is easier to see cows as more disposable than horses, because we EAT cows and we ride and bond with horses. BUT, that does NOT mean that cows need to go through abuse either. I think that there needs to be stiff regulations that are followed. I think that most rodeo people I know would be perfectly willing to follow regulations, I just think that there aren't many in place.

In the meantime, we're working to get the abuses stopped, along with changing the laws currently on the books that exempt rodeos and livestock from animal cruelty charges.
