Of course we watched, Robert! Red Dwarf was one of the greatest tv shows of all time, and each of you are an essential part of that. I watched Back To Earth just the other day, and I absolutely loved it. I confess series 8 totally lost me, but this was a return to form and so if more is ever on the way, a happy man I'll be!
My God, Rob is so humble and grateful about being in Red Dwarf. It's almost amazing when he's been such a great driving force in the show and usually has the hardest lines to say. Great video -- what a guy!!!
God I wish you had more viewers. I watched your other video about cencorship on YouTube and you are obsolutely right, I'm sure they just want to dumb down people.
Thankfully I don't have a brain made of mush so girls wiggling their arses on cam doesn't intrest me in the slightest... I don't use YouTube as wank fadder, I'm here to be enlightened.
@bobbyllew I am a Smeg head for not finding your channel earlier. I watched Red Dwarf from the start and always loved the humour, it still stands up today. Why don't they make shows like it now? The time is right for a Red Dwarf film. Thanks for the years of pleasure you have given the fans. Keep up the good work.
Red Dwarf was the most awesome of Comedy Sci-Fi's. You guys are all legends and I loved every single episode and have the box set on DVD including the Dave 'Back To Earth' which was based on my favourite Sci-Fi movie of all time Blade Runner. Very cleverly done. I would have loved there to be a movie of RD but alas that may never happen. Here's hoping though. Thanks for sharing your memories of this great series.
Red Dwarf was part of the best times of my life. My 20's, living in Montreal. All of my friends and I were huge RD fans. We'd convoy our cars across the Vermont border to volunteer at the PBS station, manning the pledge drive phones when they aired Red Dwarf marathons.
PS. Loving your new Electric Car Show. About d*man time.
PPS. Just visited England and SO loved the people. Even in London. As nice now as my last trip 20 years ago. Not sure we can say the same. Shame mode.
You spent time in Canada? Well, now I'm curious about that story. Sorry about the complaints regarding your accent. Usually we only complain about ourselves (bastards!), and the Americans, but everyone does that.
Congrats, very well done, you may say its been too long for a movie, but I think it would really be a hit, mabey its just because I love it so much as do loads of fans.
I ve had a little film experience as I helped out as a runner and a helper behind the scenes of the Turner brothers film"the divide" which was made in Ireland.
The Turners are from London, and the film will be out 2010.
Its their first feature film, which is a comedy horror.
Thanks for a great show. And great memories! I'm Canadian and would be proud to have Krytie from my home town! I was 14 when Red Dwarf came out and am proud to say I have been a loyal fan ever since! Thnk you so much!
red dwarf is brilliant now as it has ever been. the scripts especially series 7 are EXCEPTIONAL and also people forget that shows like 'backwards' were especially brilliant for their time in terms of effects. brilliant!
Has anyone ever proposed the idea of picking up RD as an animated series? (2D or CGI)...
This way you could have the entire original cast come back to voice their toon counterparts, and you would have a 'budget' for the show that would be literally unlimited...no FX or sets, costumes needed, you could depict anything your imaginations come up with...I think it would be a great way to bring RD back!
it's gonna sound off Robert but you're like a 2nd dad to me, i grew up as a kid in the early 90s, i swear i was, and still am the biggest fan in uk/midlands. can't wait to see new series but ive been busy at work and stuff, wthout the old reddwarf my childhood memories would be nothing!
Robert, can you do a Q&A? Because I have some questions to ask you XD
I'll ask anyway.
1) Since you came in at series 3, was it hard fitting in with everyone? They must've been good friends by then, after two series before you arrived. SO was it wkward or was it easy?
2) PLEASE tell us the history of the movie not getting made!
As a recent subscriber to LLEWTUBE just want to say thank you. Your a star, you and the other RD crew. You've made me laugh so much. Been catching up on your musings on Wet Liberal Weekly and will get round to viewing your other blogs. Please keep up the good work. Back to Earth was well worth the wait.

I had no idea you had your own channel Rob, I'd like to thank you for the classic gags of Red Dwarf and for Scrap Heap Challenge! My eyes will be glued to Dave but not for the reruns Top Gear but for the return of Red Dwarf!
Well i was born in 1991 and have watched red dwarf since i was about 6, ive been to numerous conventions and stuff like that, its my all time favourite programme and i just dont understand why no more series were made because theres a gigantic fan base for it, kryten has always been my favourite character withy the best line in the entire show "Are you ABSOLUTELY sure sir. It does mean changing the bulb." Rob you are the one famous person i wish i had the chance to meet :(
There's no such thing as "pointless" to a fan. We live for this stuff.
I'm wondering if they've improved on the Kryten mask and costume for the new episodes? This is the 21st century; a man should be able to wee when needs be.
My wallet and I will be waiting for the new DVDs. Welcome to it.
Rob,,,I have Red Dwarf on DVD now,so i can watch when I want,,,but yes im old enough to have seen the first TV stuff and you were a great addition to the cast mate, and my boys think its a great laugh,,, now whos room is series 4 in,,,Kids they nick all my discs..lol
20 years...crikey how times goes by so fast, i was just 6 years old! One of my earliest memories of red dwarf was actually when some kids were asking the cast what 'smeg' meant, great stuff.
I would also like to add thank you very much for posting this. i heard there will be a special with all the old crew airing early 2009 :) RED DWARF FTW!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Before anybody starts getting all irate and pointing the finger and calling me names worse than Rimmer suffered, it is just an opinion here, but for the sake of a Red Dwarf Movie, why not let the Yanks give it a go? I know their attempt at an episode wasn't the best, but you have to admit they are pretty damn good at making movies, maybe just for the sake of the original crew because they aint getting any younger, maybe they could make the Movie a little more serious but not completely serious??
if the american take had took off they would be saying things like "AHHH!!! LOOK AT THIS ORIGINAL NEW COMEDY WE INVENTED" RED DWARF is a british institutionalised comedy that only us british can understand thats why it didn't take off.
i mean "come on" they typecast dave as a perfect haired surfer boy and arnold was less annoying.
i love all those Krytie's faces (joy, jealousy, cheekiness) in VIII season in the firts episode and the interwiev with psychologist - that's just great :D
Absolute pleasure to watch ur latest Clip Rob and I am an Avid RD fan. Won't tell you how sad I am but I would just like to say thank you! Whenever I'm down and need cheering up I bring out the Red Dwarf and feel better. Keep on Smegging! xx
hundreds of masks? Ah and I thought it was just a case of spare head 1, spare head 2 and spare head 3? Although head 3 had a screw loose if I remember. :D
hi! just wanted to say that red dwarf was one of the best tv show ever made!!! i loved it! i have all the dvds! one of my many favourite scenes fro mred dwarf is in serie 3 'the ploymorth' when listers boxers were shrinking & he was screaming at u to "pull them down!" & then rimmer walks in saying to lister " well im not surprised you'll bonk anything!" LOL! well i REALLY hope & pray that there is a red dwarf moving coming out in the near future! :)
A friend of mine lent me video tapes of Red Dwarf when I was in high school, back in the early 90s and in a very dull part of the northeastern United States.
I was hooked from the beginning.
I didn't see--because he didn't have it--the episode called "Kryten", so the first Kryten I saw was His Llewellynship...and I actually had a brief moment of terror because the make-up was utterly convincing at first. I was like, "WhatinHELL am I SEEING???"
i have been watching red dwarf for years and ive got every series on DVD its hilarous i think it will be a shame if a red dwarf film never gets made i hope that the writers of the show get together and sort it out. you were amazing in the show and i still watch scrapheap challenge
urm i want your job on scrapheap and my dad quite likes Lisa Rogers maybe I could host and my dad could work behind the scenes?? maybee... your brilliant!
i heard that the bbc dotn want to make a series 9 ..now i find that absolutely rediculas ..the last series brought the bbc 8 million viewers on BBC2 i belive thats still the ratings record for a non sport show on bbc 2 so why why wy not bring the show back ..be a massive shame for tv if it never came back
Thanks for all your vids. RED DWARF is a classicseries. It will live on beyond us all as a entertainment. My beST wishes to you and hope you do something on showing us how to grow our own food. I think there would be a lot of interest in that. Of course as a POPULAR presenter you would enhance such a series.I think if we evolve the tube experience with people of your quality. You could have tee shirts and promotional things made that people would pay for to keep you on the tube.MY REGARDS
Late one night, I was channel-surfing and happened across the PBS station. I saw an android trapped in some wreckage and watched in amazement as he removed his eyeball and his hand, attached the one to the other, and sent the whole thing off for help like some freaky cyclops-spider thing! As the next few minutes unfolded, I was confused as hell, but instantly hooked. It was so bizarre, I couldn't look away! Thus, Kryten was my introduction to the best TV show in the world. Thanks, Llew!
I had no idea you were on youtube until about 20 minutes ago and thought you're videos about Red Dwarf were great. I honestly can't believe that it started 20 years ago. I've been watching it fo literally as long as I can remember, as I'm now 22, and still watch it on a very regular basis.Keep up the good work and thanks for bringing us the awesomeness that is Kryten!
hi Red Dwarf was ace and I think you are ace also. It is so cool that you are on here and that you can tell us about the behind the scenes stuff, I have watched Red Dwarf since birth litterally I was born in 1988!Lol
You rock and I hope there is a movie keep wishing. You keep acting and writting more great stuff!
hi rob red dwarf was the best watched from start all them years ago total agree what you say ,,,,,do you keep touch with the cast? yes there should be a film matey boy see yer later smeg head. ian
Eee I love RD always have done, was my favorite show growing up since I was born the year it started being aired, my mum and dad are also big RD fans, I was really chuffed when Craig and Chris came to Manchester for Collectomania ^_^.
It cannot be expressed enough how legendary a series Red Dwarf is and how legendary a group of people the cast and crew are.
This video just goes to show that. A lot of actors don't seem to really care about the stuff they're in. It's just a job to them. But Robert here showed that Red Dwarf still means something to him, which is just awesome if you ask me, =D
I think it was during the 10 year anniversary in which the Patrick Stewart commented that he was watching the tele one day and RD happened to come up. At the time he thought it was a rip off of Star Trek. Apparently he was going to call his studio before realising the gloriousness of RD.
But really how can you say RD is a rip off of Star Trek. It's like saying Eragon is a rip off of Star Wars (:P)
I've spent about a DAY in Tokyo trying to find the Red Dwarf DVDs dubbed in Japanese but I couldn't find them... The dubbing of The End that came with the first DVD was brilliant. I don't think the jokes translate too well, though... according to the dubbed Holly, Chen, Peterson, AND Gordon Bennet are all dead!
I actually adore red dwarf....makes me proud to be english that we can produce such an awesome show!!first started watching bout 15yrs ago but didnt realy understand it then but still thought it was hillarious!!love tikka to ride(episode playing on the tv)it's the best episode ever made but they are all amazing!!role on the film, and save Craig from corrie!!luvs it!
Heeheehee, how I adore Red Dwarf! I used to watch it almost religiously in my high school days, it was on the BBC channel... which I'd watch for hours on end. I was so darn lucky the series was popular enough to come to us. That was in 1990 or so... the series was actually still going ^_^
Red Dwarf is my most favourite show ever. I was lucky enough to stumble upon it 2 am, on a public broadcasting stations, what a life changing event ;)
Great video . They should make a film about trying to make the Red Dwarf film . One more series would be nice . For all those years Red Dwarf was the only sci-fi being made in the UK . Now there's more it may be a good time for it to come back?
Great lil vidblog about your memory of the show ;D I fell for it thanks to my local PBS channel (USA) around the year 2000, at age 17 (and 25 now.. oy, hehe!) and have been hooked ever since! Wishing you the best luck in all your future projects, including if the RD movie itself ever gets signed off on ;DD
Honestly, I think the fans of the original show would still tune in for a film...or a TV movie, or a DVD. It's just been so long since anybody DID anything with the show. I mean, there was a time where every other week had somebody talking about doing script read-throughs or somesuch, then...nothing. I just sort of lost track of it all. What about a TV special...do they still do the Children in Need specials?
Doctor Who did it, why not Red Dwarf? Can we do it?
I was thinking, why don't you all get together and do a Red Dwarf radio play? They cost about £10 to make (well in comparison to TV :) ) and it could rejuvenate interest in the film. The Blake's 7 cast did a couple a few years back.
At school we used to spend all day talking about the previous night's episode and I remember being pretty good at Kryten impressions.
What you say about the issue of so many channels is a real problem. No-one gets much of an audience share anymore, which means less money, which means expensive things like Red Dwarf tend not to get made so often. That's why there are so many cheap shows like "Changing Rooms" around today.
I don't think it's too long - 10 years - to make the movie. Look at "Lost in Space," which wasn't nearly as good a TV show, or Star Treck. These shows didn't have movies until many years after the shows ran originally. (30 yrs for LIS, 10 years for ST)
Can't we let it rest? I've got to say it probably reached a peak in Series 5-7, then sadly went down hill (Series 8, although it had some highlights, was painful to watch at times). Plus, if they release any more series, it would screw up my DVD collection. :-P
Downhill...... are you mad?? I loved series 5 and 6 but it didn't end there or go downhill... it just went up the road abit. Our expectations were so high for this series that we missed the fact it was still a great show. I love it. I will always love it and 10 years, 20 years, 30years after the last series, I would still pay my hard earned cash to be the first through the door to watch the movie. Movie ,Movie, movie. Bring it on I say.
It really was a brilliant series and such a shame that a 9th series was never made, i definitely feel short changed though because at the end in "Only the Good..." it says, "The End", then in classic Red Dwarf style "the Smeg it is!" I think a film or even a Ninth Series would be hugely popular, as an avid Red Dwarf fan, and thanks for your contribution to a timeless series of excellent unrivaled television Robb. Cheers! Now keep up the smegging good Llewtube!
ahem.. My Robert sir, I saw you outside the BBC the other week in London... Series nine talks??? Not spying on you - was doing a work placement there! Honest.
No worries Robert My names Ashley my dad and I LOVE! Red Dwarf we love all the characters and all the Episodes we often Quote them on Numerous Occasions to get a laugh it's good stuff we love it
I remember the 1st ep originally being shown, I even remember a trailer for ep1.
Funny thing was that only a few people at my school watched the first series. It was like some little cult we had to ourselves and it was such a long wait for that series to come out on video or repeated.
Series 2 came around and everyone was watching, but we were there first!
I remember when my mother brought my sister and i into the lounge when i was 15 to watch it as it had just started showing on pay tv here in Australia, wondered why she was introducing us to a show by watching an episode called the end
I became a bigger fan then she is, im now 24 and i still go back to watch it on dvd every now and then
It still stands up now, all the special effects look amazing compared to the CGI of today. It feels weird talking about Red Dwarf in the past tense, it doesn't feel like that long ago when I'd stay up to watch it. The ending theme heralded my bed time!
what they should do is get the british shows back on tv for like 1 more episodes like red dwarf, bottom, young ones, fawlty towers etc... would be AMAZING if they did
Yeah I'm fifteen, was born about the 5th series? Anyway my dad showed it to me about 4 years ago...I've been hooked ever since! pretty much every weekend I'll watch a few episodes or even before bed during weekdays, perhaps the best British programme ever? I think so! Anyway is there a chance for a new series/one off special/movie? If anyone can tell me I'd be greatful thank you
It's a shitty turn of developments, but if the BBC can't be arsed to fund a film of one of it's best selling programs, there's something very wrong in that building.
no its not that i think its cos there giving most there funds to russell t davies lol to make even more crappy episodes of doctor who that suck so badly
Red Dwarf 10 years old abd still as funny as when it was first shown Many happy returns, and yes i would sign the petitition if there was one to make the movie as long as it remains faithful to the series ^-^
Hey Robert, Happy Belated Birthday. It was the 10th right? That's an exact month before mine.
Easy mistake to make with the accent. Who can tell the difference between American and Canadian? Probably only the Americans and Canadians themselves. Red Dwarf is getting shown on Dave now though, which is Fantastic! *thumbs up* But I'm sorry I watch Top Gear too *cringes* I do love super cars, but I'm mostly for Hybrids. Well done for having a Toyota Prius.

Anyway i was 13 when RD started and i never missed a show,it was and still is very funny. i loved how it had a foot in science fact too,
I still watch them on DVD today, and i think i always will (:

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Before anybody starts getting all irate and pointing the finger and calling me names worse than Rimmer suffered, it is just an opinion here, but for the sake of a Red Dwarf Movie, why not let the Yanks give it a go? I know their attempt at an episode wasn't the best, but you have to admit they are pretty damn good at making movies, maybe just for the sake of the original crew because they aint getting any younger, maybe they could make the Movie a little more serious but not completely serious??
m0neyhack3r 3 years ago
if the american take had took off they would be saying things like "AHHH!!! LOOK AT THIS ORIGINAL NEW COMEDY WE INVENTED" RED DWARF is a british institutionalised comedy that only us british can understand thats why it didn't take off.
i mean "come on" they typecast dave as a perfect haired surfer boy and arnold was less annoying.
the only thing that worked was kryten.

Still love this show, years on. Great TV. :)

I LOVE Red Dwarf. It's one of my top shows ever. I just wish there was more of it, just like Trailer Park Boys, there's not enough. haha.
TayR0C 3 years ago
Honestly, I think the fans of the original show would still tune in for a film...or a TV movie, or a DVD. It's just been so long since anybody DID anything with the show. I mean, there was a time where every other week had somebody talking about doing script read-throughs or somesuch, then...nothing. I just sort of lost track of it all. What about a TV special...do they still do the Children in Need specials?
Doctor Who did it, why not Red Dwarf? Can we do it?
...and IF not, WHY not?
RoguePlanet 3 years ago 3
I was thinking, why don't you all get together and do a Red Dwarf radio play? They cost about £10 to make (well in comparison to TV :) ) and it could rejuvenate interest in the film. The Blake's 7 cast did a couple a few years back.
StevenJMUK 3 years ago
Oh god, now I feel old :)
StevenJMUK 3 years ago 2
Robert, you're a true inspiration!
Duff979 3 years ago
I don't think it's too long - 10 years - to make the movie. Look at "Lost in Space," which wasn't nearly as good a TV show, or Star Treck. These shows didn't have movies until many years after the shows ran originally. (30 yrs for LIS, 10 years for ST)
It's GOTTA happen!

It really was a brilliant series and such a shame that a 9th series was never made, i definitely feel short changed though because at the end in "Only the Good..." it says, "The End", then in classic Red Dwarf style "the Smeg it is!" Now keep up the smegging good Llewtube!

Where have those 20 years gone?
I remember the 1st ep originally being shown, I even remember a trailer for ep1.
Funny thing was that only a few people at my school watched the first series. It was like some little cult we had to ourselves and it was such a long wait for that series to come out on video or repeated.
Series 2 came around and everyone was watching, but we were there first!
Thanks for making me feel old Robert!!!
