Ebenoozen: I drove by Story City on Hwy 35 and noticed the Pella Windows building is no longer used- the company closed it many months ago. Why do you have such a rotten attitude towards Iowa Falls? It's a great community with caring and friendly people. I assume that you have had a bad experience here and are projecting your hostility towards the whole community. If new buildings, bridges, and community centers don't make a town better (and I know they do) then what does?--You don't say.
@dickgaulke Dick.... i know about P/W..NOW.. But if you will, check the date on my post. And you are correct, the people in IF are fantastic... My comments were NOT about that. The government there is corrupt, the spending is out of control (and all for the wrong venues), and property taxes are REDICULOUS... though if you still live where you used to, you likely have some blissful ignorance of this. 20 years from now, IF will be nothing more than geriatrics. and transient families. Sad
Kenosha- Yes, and as about 56% of the property taxes an Iowa Falls resident pays go to the Iowa Falls school system, it's nice to see these other advancements, come to past out of it.. But you can build all the new buildings, bridges, and community centers you want, but that's not what makes the town better. If you haven't learned that by now, no preaching is going to change it-
I have lived in Iowa Falls since 1948 and find that the Iowa Falls of 2010 is still the finest small community in Iowa. We built a new library, a new aquatic center, a new Dale Howard Family Acitivity Center and a new bio-tech and equestrian building at Ellsworth Community College, among other things. Today's Citizen newspaper talks of plans beginning for a new hospital. Some employers have left this community and jobs are a challenge to find. Some people may be leaving but others are attracted.
@kenosha1936 And I might say one more thing, concerning my comment on industry; The residents of Story City thank Iowa Falls every day, for NOT rolling out the welcome mat for Pella Windows.... Do you have any idea how much money PW has brought to Story county, in the time it's been there? You can thank your city council, and Mr. "C" for voting that one down. Just another example of how Iowa Falls is too concerned with the hear-and-now, and not the long-term future. Open you eyes, and REALIZE
Once upon a time, not so long ago, there was an Iowa jewel called "Iowa Falls". From the mid-century, through the 1980's, it was a safe place to grow up, live and raise a family; Friendly people, plenty to do, & thriving business's. Sadly, that all has ebbed. A town once fearless of change, growth, development and a positive outlook toward the future, became so terrified of making a wrong move, it didn't move at all. Now, it grapples for industry to save it. But people are leaving. Its too late
