my high school chior is doing this song for isma contest in a couple weeks

Sung this with 5 other girls a couple years ago. My favorite song I ever sang with them. We were a small chorus, but we had big voices. ;3 I'll never forget that year of chorus.

That was back in high school. I'm in college now. I miss my old singing buddies. T__T

Oh, and we sang it faster than this. It makes it so much more fun with the faster tempo. x3

We are playing this in jazz band for when we play at a church! I love it! but its in 12/8 and it has 6 sharps half the time :P

this was an awesome performance but this was originally a slave song about slaves in the fields picking cotton waiting to be picked up (chariots).its pretty weird that people can jazz up a pretty sad song

Do you have a reference that describes this in more detail? According to the Wikipedia article on it Swing Low Sweet Chariot was originally written in reference to Elijah being carried to heaven in a chariot and implies that the song is suspected to have hidden lyrics referring to the underground railroad. The parallels do make sense there. In that vein, they aren't singing about how sad it is to be a slave, they are singing about the hope of being rescued - a joyful thought.

back to kern county honor choir all the way here in california

i did honor choir for 06', 07', and 08' and it was my last year this year (since its with all the middle schools in the area 6th through 8th)

in 2006 i performed this song with the choir and it was the funnest thing ever and it inspired me to do all 3 years of honor choir

this was the best performance of the song ive heard since i performed it at the rabobank convention center
