@iwillownyourface split the signal. One one side, use a whammy set one octave down, a slow phaser. One the other side, use a synth to process the sound. Then mix the signals. I'm not sure of the specifics on the synth I used, but I just went through a bunch of models and plug-ins until I found one that sounded as close as possible.
@iwillownyourface Yes. There's lots of great modeling software out there. I just like Pod Farm because it also has bass amps, mic pre's, vocal effects, synths, and an LA-2A compressor model. It's a one-stop shop for 80-90% of the stuff I do.
@shogun996 I re-recorded all the guitar tracks. I reduced the core frequencies of the guitars in the original song. I then mixed my recordings together with the modified original track. So I'd say around 80% of what you're hearing on the guitars is me.
@shogun996 I think I did pretty well. The Black Key's setups are pretty simple, so it's not too hard to get similar sounds. The playing style is the harder thing to emulate. Listening to the way they pick, slide, end chords, neck position, etc... If you want to emulate tone, that's the most important part. The guitar sound is second. Eddie Van Halen sounds like Eddie Van Halen whether he's on his amp or a $100 practice amp.
@DexRedd There's some quick delays on the top-left guitar, the wierd drop sound around the bridge was with a whammy pedal, and the final guitar riffs have an octaver (one octave up) and some modulation effects.
@SixPicker86 I pretty much just use Pod Farm 2 for all the videos I do on here. The effect was a digitech whammy, with the heel set to -2 octaves. Hit a low note, then start dropping the pedal down erratically.
@darealdjnutz Thanks man. A straightforward song with great guitar tones and tasteful riffs. The Black Keys put out some good stuff. The video for this song is pretty cool too.
Complimenti! Bravissimo! =)

@EvrythngGtr Sweet thats what I use too! How did you set it up for the final solo?
iwillownyourface 2 months ago
@iwillownyourface I don't remember. I didn't save it, so I'd have to pick models and settings again from scratch.

@PARAWHORE5563344 Yep, an '09 American Tele. The verse chords are Gbm, Dbm, Bm, Db. Play them mainly on the 1st 4 strings, starting on the 9th fret.

Did you really hit the tone on all of that?

Wow how does this not have 50K views? Excellent work. What was the program/effect you used to get the funky sound leading into the ending?
