So much more than just a great beauty - Rick's 70's output included some of the finest of ballads (What Would the Children Think, Believe in Me, Million Dollar Face etc) Thanks to a drive and work ethich second to none, he is now admired and respected, and not just swooned over. His courage and musical gifts are things of beauty. Check out his interviews - here is an extraordinary man.
I had a compilation album back in the late 70's that had this song on it, but I haven't heard it in years. Thanks so much for sharing it here. It brought back so many good memories to hear it again. I've always been a fan of Rick's vocals, but being easy on the eyes is a definite bonus. Anyway, Thanks again. Now, for one more listen.....
I was introduced to Rick and the banjo with this song. After I heard it I got his first two albums (sadly I gave them away in the early 80's to a babysitters daughter who was a fan-- I only wish I still owned those vinyls) I picked up a banjo and learned how to play. Still a great song.
@abraxasaron Actually is birthname is Richard Lewis Springthorpe so Springfield isn't even really his last name. But no matter the name..he is awesome!
@abraxasaron nope. makes mention of it in his new book. Springfield is and was never Rick or Dusty's real last name. the mention goes that Dusty walked up to Rick and hugged him saying you'r my brother!
I may be showing my age here, but I had no idea that he sang in the 70's untill recently. The first song that I ever heard from him was "Jessie's Girl"
Yeah, pics form his Zoot - times.... I luv this song. It`s very catchy. I think many nonspeaking English people could learn English by singing this song.
Great work. I love Rick so much. He looked and sounded simply PRECIOUS back then! Anyone who disagrees was born The Day After Yesterday, and better think twice about it. ;)
Oh too much! This is the Rick Springfield I remember! Every Saturday morning I was watching Mission Magic when I was 7 years old. I would dream about him coming to my school in the white outfit w/ the lightning bolt "R". I have Comic Book Heroes, the Mission Magic album and the Best Of Rick Springfield. I even customized a Comic Book Heroes action figure for my friend! Rock on, Rick!
The Sonny and Cher pics! I love that episode with Rick! He sang What Would The Children Think. I have it taped, it's in a box, in this house, someplace. Wonder if it's out on DVD???
Thanks! Oh and I saw your video with the song What Would the Children Think and I was happy because I haven't gotten to hear that song in a while. Thanks for uploading it
I actually found a copy, but I don't have the means to upload it, but trust me, it's a winner. Rick takes some shots at Sonny after his song and tells a couple of jokes during a skit (see the pic above w/ William Conrad). That's the Rick I fell in love w/ as a little girl back in the 70s.
And he never thought he was good-looking. He even admitted in high school he felt like an outsider and thought he wasn't good-looking, boy, was he so ever, ever wrong.
Super Song.
Great Pictures.

Played on 610/WIP in Philly in 1971, then never heard on the radio since. Great song and performance.

one of my faves by rick. it sounds like a cross of a camp fire song, an 1880's saloon ditty with a healthy dose of gospel. great!

Didn't he do music for a Filmation cartoon in the 70s? Anybody else remember it?
imthedorf1964 1 year ago
@imthedorf1964 Indeed. It was entitled Mission Magic. The theme song (which he performs) is on Youtube.

@imthedorf1964 Absolutely!! It was called "Mission Magic" and revolved around a magic teacher named Miss Tycle and her class

Ah you are very lucky, that episode of Sonny and Cher is nowhere to be found...I would love to see it

It's not on DVD? I better figure out what box it's in. If (well when, not if) I find it, I'll let you know.
