@Axbent : Twisted lines are not really a problem. You can do at least 20 loops on steel lines without binding. When practicing it's a good idea to keep a rough mental note of how many inside versus outside loops you do so that the lines can unwind. At the end of a flight I always untwist and clean them (it's surprising how sticky with unburned oil they get). However in a combat match it's impossible to keep count.
Nice vid! particularly snappy editing...combat fliers nightmare coincideing with the line "there aint no more...you've taken everything"! like it very much.
I will build a warmonger or 2 and have a go one day......
No disrespect (each to his own etc) but I never really liked them boom jobs, a bit flimsy looking.....I tried all the swept wings, Titan, Pink Panther, Anduril but found that not much could out turn the Ironmonger. For me it was the epitome of a proper combat model.
Unfortunately Mike and Merv don't fly vintage, Vernon doesn't fly anything anymore sadly. I'll put some on after our Nats at the end of August. Thanks for the comment, I've seen some of your videos, excellent.
Richard Evans was great although I never flew against him. My first ever competetive bout was against Richard Wilkins (Early Bird) -I lost. My combat hero was Bazz Bumstead. Her gave the plans of his September Warrior, surely the prettiest boom design of the era.
Ken, Actually I've recently been in email contact with Richard. He's very friendly. He invited me to come back and fly in the UK but I think the stock PAW .15s we use over here (Seattle, USA) wouldn't stand a chance against the Harrison and Fisher-tuned lumps they use over there. Nice clip, BTW>
Richard had a fly of of a few of my ST G20/15 & PAW 2.5TBT CT powered 14 oz vintage combat models when he was in Australia and commented although they were very good to fly that the Harrison 3.5 motor is quantum leap above a 2.5. He said that one of the main reasons for decline in interest in the UK was the use of these motors. He thinks they should be either banned or some sort of speed limit be imposed.
Imagine if we could hear the engines.

As one who never tried line control, how does the piolt deal with twisted lines, does he untwist them or keep track of the turns?

Excellent. Takes me back to my teenage years. The only thing missing is the smell of the fuel and the drone of the Oliver Tigers on full chat.

I flew a short(friendly) bout against R. Evans during his stop over in Australia using a couple of my old PAW.15 powered practice models.
He hasn't lost his style.I have posted a short clip of it on youtube under my user name - vintage combat in oz - brimbank falcons CL - cheers Ken
